These days you literally cannot step into a thread without someone (I’ll say someone to keep it balanced) using the eye rolling emoji, has it got out of hand, is it a replacement for a lack of original thought, is it passive aggressive without actually saying anything, whereas in the past a witty retort would be used to show your destain for someone or something, now we are just subjected to that dreaded emoji. It indicates that someone or something that they are saying is annoying, I think the only time it’s acceptable is when you’re talking about real life events, not when it’s directed at someone or something on here. When was the last time you used it, couldn’t you think of anything to say but wanted to show your annoyance without going to the effort of thinking of something to say ?

I sometimes use it directed at myself because of my own stupidity. In a similar vein to the eyeroll, the grab popcorn/cake/food comments do make me want to use that emote.
I don't really notice it that much in the Lounge, like La Luna said it's definitely more about the Oh what's that Bob? You like egg mayo sandwiches? Me too.

I prefer tuna and salad cream with sweet corn and red onion
Not cucumber though.

Overuse, maybe, but some of the tripe you read on here doesn’t warrant a written response, so an eye roll works perfectly |

The popcorn comment is similar, it’s stirring the shit without having the plums to say it, hoping that other people will do the dirty work while that person sits back and basks in it. |

I’d say the same applies to any response using only emojis - though I’m guilty of doing it myself on occasion.
Having said that - I’ve also spent a great deal of time and effort on a response only to have it ignored - so I reserve my right to the occasional ‘lazy’ response too!
Tbh the only emoji responses that irk me slightly are those who add a or a (or similar) after something that is clearly intended as an insult as a ‘cop out’!
I rarely seek argument or contention on here - but when I do give a potentially unpopular opinion I own it rather than hiding behind a plethora of emojis. |

Yup - I generally put it down to two things - either they’re spineless - or they know they’ll never win a genuine argument (not articulate enough or simply wrong in the first place) so they use the emojis to pretend they weren’t being insulting/confrontational in the first place! |

Again - lack of original thought.
Anyone who isn’t afraid to stand out from the herd won’t be universally popular though - that’s obvious.
Most people who are very loved on the forums are nice to pretty much everyone and rarely, if ever, share a contentious view/comment.
That’s great and they’re bloody lovely people (have Taff in my head at the moment but there are quite a few others) - but to be interesting the forums need other characters too - and you’re definitely one of them! |

I probably use emojis a bit much, but never directed at another forumite as such. An eye roll for instance would be used after I've explained about me doing something daft. Like this post |

It is. I wish they’d do a shooting star emoji as I like those
And we should have a thumbs down emoji to balance out the thumbs up. That way you don’t have to blurt out in a thread that someone is a tool, you just give them the thumbs down. |

Some people are very easily upset with words and their vexation only worsens when they’re challenged. A simple eye roll in this circumstance is suffice, after all a picture does paint a thousand words. |

So why use words to upset in the first place? People know exactly what they are doing with it. Especially when they goad others into doing the same, starting a cycle of manipulation and bullying

Sometimes even when the words are a right they can still be manipulated as goading and bullying. Unfortunately some will be upset with any words just for the sake of it. It’s a fine balance knowing when to press or answer the question posed concisely. |

So you're saying people shouldn't voice their opinion on a public forum just in case it upsets somebody? That's not very inclusive, is it? What if that opinion is on a subject that they're very passionate about or has personal meaning to them? Should they still keep quiet in your opinion?
I've been accused of bullying on here in the past, simply for stating an opposing viewpoint to an OP. I wasn't abusive, just explained politely why I didn't agree and stated my reasons for that. Several people agreed with me in the thread. I was then called some really rather unpleasant things and accused of bullying in a kik group that I wasn't part of. It's all about how people interpret posts, and unfortunately the author doesn't have any control over that. |

I was accused of bullying for having a joke with an OP who I'd spoken to before and he was clearly joining in. I've even had friends of mine accused of bullying me on here when I can 100% say they were not and have never done. It seems to be an accusation some people love to throw around despite have zero involvement and knowing nothing about the relationship between the people involved. Of course I'd be happy for someone who doesn't know and was concerned to ask and we would then be able to explain if they've misunderstood an interaction but people seem to instead prefer to make snap judgements and create issues where there are none. |

Exactly. It's a term I see being bandied about on here more and more lately. I'd even go so far as to say the accusation of bullying is almost bullying in itself if the aim is to discourage people from commenting on threads for fear of being accused of bullying or goading..if it's within site rules people are allowed to post whatever they want. As is often quoted, we all have the option of scrolling past posts that we don't like. The mods will pick up on anything against site rules, and I encourage anyone to report anything that they perceive to be bullying so that it can be dealt with appropriately. |

The mods will pick up on anything against site rules, and I encourage anyone to report anything that they perceive to be bullying so that it can be dealt with appropriately."
You're not even allowed to have friends apparently. If you make fun of each other you're accused of bullying and when you say "it's ok we know each other" you're then being cliquey . Can't win so stopped trying . |

The only time I ever used the eye roll emoji is when my finger once inadvertently slipped whilst I was trying for the green faced grinning one.
(I suppose the eye rolling one might be subsequently apt as a pictorial representation of my clumsiness) |
