"I don't know what to say!!!

We had one who told us that his brother had broken his neck in a car accident the day before he was due to meet us.

Funnily enough..... his brother bid on a car of ours on ebay a week later and then when it was time to collect it, his brother phoned Jason's mobile and told him the exact same story.... his brother had broken his neck the night before.

Turns out, they were habitual bidders on ebay and rather than auction wrecking they came up with this excuse.

We've also had the muy mum/dad/daughter/sister/son/dog/llama/spider has been rushed to hospital

We never ever believe anyone now.

I’d have to say the best (or rather worst) one was the guy who claimed he had witnessed a suicide at a train station whilst making his way to my house. He also claimed his phone was broken, so I was only receiving short messages via swinging sites…. Yes he claimed he was borrowing some stranger’s laptop to log on to swinging sites to leave messages (as ya do) rather than msn.

Now there was me wondering why the police would hold witnesses for 5-6 hours at a train station to take statements. Having worked in public transport at one time, I always believe the protocol to be to take names and addresses as quickly as possible and clear the area. Well I wasn’t actually wondering that…. as earlier, when I was trying to be thoughtful, I had rang the British Transport Police to find out which station the incident had happened. He’d said he was at a Birmingham station – not far - I could go and pick him up because a suicide on the tracks means closing down the line and long delays. But guess what…. there had been NO F*CKING SUICIDE at any station anywhere on the network that day!

To top it all off nicely, he then posted on another site about what a shitty day he had experienced, how he had missed out on an arrangement, had witnessed a suicide, had spent all day stuck at a station…. blar blar blar …. the f*cking cheek! Posting what a shitty day he had and accepting sympathy from people on the forum.

One of ours was, "we went for a lie down before coming over, went to sleep and didn't wake up until morning!"

Excuses are one thing though, but 'phone calls to say that they are on the way and will be with us within the hour, never to turn up, or be heard from ever again, are another. Have they been abducted by aliens?

Despite these, I still give credence to some excuses. It all depends on how they are presented. As it happens, my mother did break her neck last November, and she did have a stroke last month to complicate it, and our boy has been off school recently, ill, and we did have various colds over the winter, any of which events could have put paid to any arranged meets. As it happened they didn't, as we're not very active at the moment, but nevertheless, they could have.

The difference is that we would have spoken on the 'phone to anyone we would have had to put off, at great pains to ensure that the situation is valid, and not just a one liner message or text or something.

Here are geniune excuses for some of my meets not turning up:

* washing machine exploded

* I had a tummy bug and a bad night, when i got of to sleep i slept past our meet time. (and he's in the army, i wondered if his sergent brought him some lucazade and TLC)

* I got lost......(ok this is believeable, only he had choosen the location, as it was his local...DAH!!!!!!!!)

* Boilers broken down

* I have got the kids.......(What?...like and you only just remembered????)

* I have been called into work, theres a problem that only I can fix.

* I had my phone stolen

I have a meet today, at lunch. I doubt if he will actually turn up, It will be interesting to see what excuse this one brings.

oowwww I remembered one from a guy who was meant to be meeting me and a couple I know. Bless him for being honest, but the cheek of what he said was so funny....

(15 minutes before the meet - a text message) "Sorry have been watching porn all afternoon and I am not really in the mood now. Can we do it some other time?"

(reply) "Yeah sure, how about next notafuckingchance"

We have found people offten use a death as a excuse. We have had all sorts of excusess. One time we had chated to a guy for ages well hung, polite emails, fun on messanger etc etc finaly come to meeting him and YES he did turn up but when we meet him all he was intrested in was geting a pair of knickers and leaving rather than any fun. A lot of the time we dont even get a excuse thay just dont turn up and then dont reply to emails after. Anouther guy we meet he watched to start with got so excited shot his load so then decided to leave LOL well the list goes on and on

We spoke with a couple for weeks via msn (seen on web cam so knew they were the ones in their pics) and messages here, we eventually arranged a meet, they messaged us to ask if we had booked the hotel, we replied with 'we will do that in about one hour' the message was read, no reply, we went on to book, messaged them to say it was booked, with some details of the receipt (not too much but enough to know it was for real), again message was read, next night we got a message saying they couldn't make it, gave the benefit of the doubt, messaged a couple more times between us but never seen on msn since, though the last time I looked they still come online here and had only cam verifications.

What is wrong with people when they can't be honest?

Especially when you,ve had to pay out for a hotel room

Then the front they have of coming back and chatting to others on site

I would rather someone just say...look we've changed our minds we don't want to meet you anymore, its easier than making up a shit load of poor excuses

I know, for several days they had asked if we had booked the room yet, we said we hadn't and asked if they had (we was getting a room each), after a few days of this we went on to book the room, show them proof as we assumed they didn't want to book to be let down, it wasn't 24 hours later they said they couldn't make it.

Anyway, we got our cash back, and went on a meet that same night we had planned, so didn't lose out.

Nowt stranger than folk eh!!

Fortress of Solitude, Middlesex

I was to meet a couple from Maidstone, (they couldn't come to mine as they thought it to far) but they don't play at home cause of the kids.

"Fine" I said "How bout a hotel?"

They picked one 10 mins from theirs (they don't like to go too far) but didn't want to be out all night as it was first meet, next time they'd make it all nighter they said.

Fair enough - except they were hoping I'd book the hotel as the only credit card they had was the hubby's company card. (Getting weirder).

This would not have been such a big deal.. if not for the fact that:

1) If they couldn't make it I'd lose my money booking the room (as last chance to cancel with travelodge is noon)

2) They needed to confirm sitter, which they couldn't do till 2pm of the day

3) The worst of all.. when I said "ok, just let me know as soon as possible and I'll book it, and when we meet up you can give me half", THEY called ME a cheap skate! (considering I was paying train tickets to them, cab from station to hotel and the petrol for 10 min drive for them would have been nothing).

They then hung up repeating that they don't deal with people who are such tightwads. They actually expected ME to pay the whole cost of hotel room at a night's notice with risk of losing it all if they didn't show??

Worse thing is - all the original excuses you can generally relate to - so you give em a chance.

But my opinion is- why take it that far if you really dont want to meet somebody???

I know people dont like to email/msn tennis - but unless i feel like i am making a rapport - there is no way i would meet on my own, and therefore it wouldnt get that far. And if i did get a rapport - then i would expect that things were going well and all would pan out well. No need for excuses.

my fave let down was a guy who called me 2 hours before we was supposed to be meeting and ask if we could move our meet to the next day as he had just had a offer off another woman who he'd rather meet but she could only make that day so he'd like to meet her tonight and meet me the next night lol

come on you have to give him 10 out of 10 for honesty lol
