It's not illegal on race tracks and sections of autobahns.

But for me is not necessarily about the speed, it's the appreciation of precision engineering and quality craftsmanship, the excitement of hearing the sound of the engine, and the thrill of being in control of such a powerful machine. Still, I suppose that only petrolheads would understand that.

"Never seen the point of supercars. A waste of precious natural resources that is illegal to drive at even half it's full speed. Still i suppose that some people might need to compensate for feelings of inadequacy.

Such a lazy presumption to claim owning a supercar masks flaws. I’ve owned 2 supercars so far in my life and I’m sure I will own more in the future. I’m not a petrol head and don’t know much about cars but I appreciate the beauty and excitement of owning and driving one. I passed my test late in my life compared to most (late 20s) and bought a supercar as my first car and used it as a daily driver for 3 years. The thrill of getting in it every day never waned.

If I could take any car now, money no object. It would be a classic Mer_edes gullwing, 300 SL is it called ? I could look at that all day and never get tired of it

"... an original 1980s 911 turbo with the whale tail "

If you want original, 1975 was the launch year.

For me, the original McLaren F1 simply because it was designed and engineered without compromise or bending to costs, and is actually a watermark in automotive engineering.

As I'm a greedy bastard, the other side of the garage would have a Ferrari 288GTO just because I fuckin' love that car!

In the middle (did I mention I was greedy, right?) a nice Caterham, because, well just because. I had one, I will have another.

True. There's an awesome video of a countach anniversary edition drag racing a 512 tr at Suzuka. It lost clearly because it had the rear wing on and the knob driving it had the passenger window open. You can hear the difference between the Ferrari's melodic tone vs the lambos throaty growl too

I was fortunate to own one for a short time. Only an 8v. Engine rebuild suspension tweaked new bushes. Just after I had finished running it in I was taken out by a d*unk driver.

Unfortunately while waiting to get the money from the insurance company top gear did their report on them and I couldn't even afford to buy a new shell to re shell it!

"Koenigsegg probably, they're bonkers.

It's on my list to build my own car to humiliate supercars on the drag strip. Something in the 1000hp region. Sub 8 second 1/4 mile at 180-190 mph

You'll need a modified Toyota Supra V6 for that. They can be tweaked from the stock 300hp twin turbo to nearly 1k hp

There's a fair few cars that you can use. A mate has a honda civic, started at 600hp now at 850hp, its insanely fast. A good few chucking out 1000hp+

Surely turbocharged and with some nitro??

New internals, massive intercooler, injectors, fuel pump, a mahoosive turbo, various other bits. Running 42psi boost at the minute.

Half the fun is inthe building it.

I've done a couple.

Shoehorned a Subaru wrx sti engine and running gear into a mk2 fiesta shell, bit of tuning, new turbo and intercooler, 460hp, stupid fast

Issue is if the chassis can handle that much output!

Oh yeah, shit load of chassis work needed, full cage, front and rear braces, beefing up the underside.

Sounds like a project i'd love working on

I loved Penelope - my Ford Focus. I thought she was pretty super - does that count?

Not a "supercar" as such, but would love an Alvis TF21 coupé, 3 litre, straight 6, maroon paintwork, mahogany dashboard, beige leather upholstery.

Worked on one in my younger days, beautiful machine
