There used to be a shop in the village that I used to live in that sold sweets out of jars. The shopkeeper used to wear a brown coat ala Arkwright in Open All Hours, we mostly used to order a quarter of something off the top shelf, when he had put his ladder away and weighed them out we would asked for a quarter of something from the jar that was right next to the first one

The last time and place I seen an oldie type sweet shop with the front counter and back wall stacked with jars of all the types of sweets mentioned, was down in Blackpool a few years back. It was like being a kid again unable to decide what to buy.
