Toasted both sides. Cheese edge to edge, as much as I can cram on. Sit the finished cheese on toast on a piece of kitchen roll on the plate, to help prevent the condensation making the toast soggy |

"Also the side you put the cheese on do you toast that slightly, just so the cheese sits on right ? "
Do you tip your toaster on its side so you can toast the underside and melt the cheese at the same time? |

My ex used to put the bread in the toaster. Then add cheese and chuck it under the grill to melt.
NOOOOOOOO!
Put the bread under the grill to toast beautifully on one side whilst you slice or grate cheese as is your want !
Once beautifully golden remove and flip over add your choice of cheese and any adornments.
The steam from the now face down toasted side adds to the melting of the cheese and stops is getting burnt on the cheese side.
And yes....I take my cheese on toast seriously

I toast the bread in toaster... Then lay either raw/pickled onions thinly sliced or chutney/pickle.. or tomato puree onto one toasted side. Ontop of that I lay slices of cheese edge to edge and right to the edge of the toast.
Damm
Hungry now.. |

"When making cheese on toast, do you overlap the cheese slightly, you know, like when you lay turf on a lawn, so you don’t get any gaps ?!"
I always use grated cheese and then add an egg for a cheesy egg toastie |

When I feel like I do it Jamie style.. with some cheese grated straight into pan.. deliciously bubbling away an sticking to your griddled toast. Forming a nice crispy layer on the outside and melting goodness inside. |

"Laid precisely, maybe a touch of onion.
And if you are a lover of it.... When the cheese is still hot, spread Marmite on it and you get lovely gloopy Marmitey cheese
No judging on here now "
I’m going to try this shortly |

Grated mixed with a little Worcestershire sauce and mayonnaise.
Or even mayo and onion.
Or just on its own.
If I’m using slices then there’s no need to overlap as i make sure the slices are even. |

Always off a block never plastic wrapped slices
Is that even cheese |

Exactly, I assumed this. Sliced cheese is for kids lunches, adults don't use it |

They did a program looking at the science of this particular item.
Grating cheese is indeed the preferred method. Also depends what cheese you use.
But they also say it's best to use the middle shelf |

Overlap the cheese, make sure it goes right up to the edges. Chuck it under the grill for a bit until things get bubbly, a smattering of Worcestershire sauce, and then back under to brown everything up... *drools all over himself* |

The bread gets toasted first in toaster... Then I take the whole party over to the grill |

Hang on
No one has mentioned mushrooms yet.
Toast the bread
Fry mushrooms with garlic, then add sour cream, parsely and salt..
Put on the toast and grate block cheese over it.

"Am I the only one who feels that people are over complicating cheese on toast?
Lightly toasted sourdough, grated mature cheddar melted until golden brown, a couple of drops of Worcester sauce. "
You're not exactly talking about basic cheese on toast are you tho |

"Toast one side of the bread.
Spread Lurpak on the other side, apply cheese and toast again.
Perfection, well once you have added the HP of course."
