The Big Question.....

Why is it that sandwiches always taste better when someone else makes them?
Even if it’s not a filling you’d usually go for they STILL invariably taste good (unless of course the person has put celery in there - that stuff ain’t touching my lips!)
I am befuddled. I am perplexed. I have an erection. (the latter fact has no bearing whatsoever on the question but I just thought I’d share this wondrous event) |

Well my sweet ....... the answer lies in time ..... the amount of time that you see , smell and touch the food before you eat it .....
When you've spent a while making it you've already smelled it and therefore tasted it and there is no expectancy ..... you know what's coming.
Someone elses however..... is your very first nano second of a sarnie ...... the first thing it touches are your taste buds........ delish. |

"also taste better when cut into triangles
So true! Triangles always trump squares in the taste department.
I am even more perplexed now "
Also Crinkle Cut anything tastes better than straight cut
(Beetroot, Chips, Crisps etc) |

"Not if they are the only butter one side type. "
Indeed - Both pieces of bread must be buttered (and thickly) for me. Anything less I consider to represent distasteful frugality on the sandwich makers part |

That’s a good point Granny; I think you might well be onto something there
Will you collaborate with me on my new book?
I’ve tentatively entitled it: ‘The Science Of Sandwich Consumption.’
It’s going to be awesome! (possibly.....and if someone else writes it for me of course) |

Another question often asked....Scones: Jam or clotted cream: which goes on first? (People get quite fiery over this one) |

You drive a hard bargain Granny but I acquiesce to your demands (provided you make me a sandwich) |

"Why do your favourite song’s sound better on the radio ?!
That’s true!
I came in perplexed.....and am now rendered utterly discombobulated "
I think it’s hearing them when you’re not expecting them, it’s the joy of getting something you’re not expecting, same as the sandwich |

A good point Not being part of an expected playlist, the random playing of the track comes as a welcome surprise |

"Not always. But toast definitely does."
I knew someone who only used to toast one side of the bread under the grill.
It was obviously culinary sacrilege of the highest order and yet......I actually really liked the juxtaposition of textures on either side of the slice |

"It’s the one thing I think tastes better if you make it yourself, as you know just how you like it "
It’s odd but I am a really lazy sandwich maker; I go for a minimalist approach.
Actually, I know why to: my greed compels me to make them in a hurry so I can bolt them down quick |

"So if you were muff diving and I had my legs against your ears holding you tight, would that make you a head sandwich eating a clit sandwich?"
This is indeed a highly intriguing scenario
Hmmmm....I believe it might be termed a double sandwich or possibly a ‘VERY Happy meal’ |

Oh yes - it was lovely......butter melting over the warm bread and jam spread thickly over the top.
(That sounded like one of the exquisite descriptions of simple food from an Enid Blyton book) |

"also taste better when cut into triangles "
That was actually scientificly proven.
It's supposedly due to the the dry crust at the edges where there is less tasty filling.
When the crusts meet in a corner, it makes a whole mouthful of dry and boring sandwich.
Rectangular cut sandwiches have 2 of these to get through, whereas triangular cut only have 1.
So a triangular cut sandwich has more tasty bites in it than the rectangular cut
WTF do I know that? |

That is awesome research! So the triangular apexes contain more flavours. It makes logical sense when one thinks about it in such a manner |

"Toasted bagel wins everytime with a mouth watering warm bagel and nice firm cold filling."
Oh yes! I must admit to living conflicting ingredient temperatures to. By way of example- I love fridge cold tomatoes on warm toast with salad cream
Gawd! - I’m so hungry right now! |

That's the key. Being quick with butter application so you see watch it sink softly inside bread.. |

Ooooo yes!!! Watching it melt over the toast - it’s positively almost sexual |

I can fix yours straight away but.....I might have to wait until day break to catch a pigeon unless of course, your tiger doesn’t mind climbing trees in the dark for a DIY snack? |
