Coma...The special effects stick with you after the film.
The Beyond...why didn't anyone think of this alien storyline 'twist' before now...
In the tall grass..great time travel type film.

Cube is a great low budget sci-fi horror I doubt many have seen. Also no one got any love for the Blade Runner films?
Also can we stop calling Star Wars sci-fi, because it’s not. It’s a fantasy fairytale with a twist on its setting ![](/icons/s/wink.gif) |

"Lucy
Elysium
Gattaca
"
Genuinely feel Gattaca is underrated. Such an engrossing film.
Lucy, though featuring the delectable Scarlett Johansson (Hubba hubba!) falls apart towards the end to become almost laughable.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Her & Inception are my Sci Fi highlights film wise. |

Agree re Lucy... she turns into a monkey or a pile of liquid plastic or something , had kind of given up watching by then....
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, - one of my favourites but I’d have it as romance not sci-fi. Great film though |

I love Cube, although felt the sequels were poor.
District 9, Event Horizon, and Moon are definitely up there too.
I really enjoyed Splice, though most people I know who saw it hated it. |

Agree completely on the sequels. Only saw the second one years later and was literally laughing out loud at how bad it was. Event Horizon and District 9 are great! |

"Silent running. A true classic
Dark star. Old comedy scifi which reminds me of another...
Ice pirates!
If you love scifi and don't mind watching dated films i highly recommend all 3."
Dark Star was John Carpenter’s first film, made while he was still at college & most of the cast were college buddies & it was co written (IIRC) with the captain.
Made for about $60k
Watch it with that in mind & it’s a great film.
Event Horizon, Fifth Element & Moon are top of our SciFi tree.

"I watched an excellent one on Netflix yesterday called Mute. I'd never heard of it before but stars Alexander Skarsgård and Paul Rudd.
It's a sequel, of sorts, to Moon."
I did think that's what some of the bits were referring to ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

A sci-fi/action classic: Escape From New York.
The sequel Escape From LA is watchable but not a patch on the original.
There was originally going to be a third entry but it sadly never materialised

It's been said before but the original blade runner, as the theme of human like robots is just around the corner of reality. Won't be long now till they have realistic sex robots, that look and sound like human beings. And I robot with will Smith is great. |

The one that REALLY surprised me when it came out and is great fun still now is District 9.
Watched it again recently and it's still damn good fun. Any movie where the hero picks up a pig and throws it at a baddie gets my vote. ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Most of my favourites have already been mentioned but there’s one that doesn’t seem to get a lot of attention that I always thought should of.
Dark city
With keither Sutherland and Richard o brien no less. Definitely worth a look if you like sci fi with a bit of thriller mixed in |

Slightly off kilter but....
Little shop of horrors.
With the mean, green, mother from outer space.
Not a trad Sci fi as such but great songs and superb cameos from Murray and Martin.

The original Alien film was good, but to many poor follow ups. Like Halloween was great, but so many shite sequels tainted the brand, though its horror. |

I was about to post this one myself! Such a great film, the blu-ray of the Director's Cut is essential. Rufus Sewell is great in the lead, William Hurt and Jennifer Connolly in support roles. A mix of sci-fi and 50s noir. One of my absolute favourte sci-fi films. |

Stalker - not a thrill ride but a beautiful film. Same director as the original Solaris but for me the better film, features some beautiful shots.
Scanners / Videodrome / eXistenZ / The Fly - Cronenberg's films veer towards horror but these four all have sci-fi elements. Videodrome is superb but not for everyone.
World On A Wire - Dealt with virtual reality back in the 1970s. Originally screened in two parts as it's over 3 hours long so maybe best viewed as a 2-part drama.
1984 - the 1984 film version starring John Hurt.
The Book Of Eli - underrated post-apocalytic film.
Dredd - *not* the Stallone version |

The Core
"
This film is just so utterly bad it actually goes out the other side of the good/bad scale and becomes a classic for it.
It’s like watching a car wreck ..... and I love it ![](/icons/s/wink.gif) |

Some really good series on as well. Loving The Expanse, Altered Carbon, Away, Another Life, nightflyers
Love some of the big franchises - star trek, the original star wars films (and rogue one), stargate, terminator 1&2, Alien / Aliens, battlestar galactica
As well as some good standalone films like event horizon, the Martian, interstellar, gattaca |

Yes it has, was gutted to hear that
Also watching The Boys, which is I suppose a superhero thriller, but they are genetically altered by a mystery drug, so that kinda counts? |

I'm really enjoying the boys, love the alternate versions of the superheros we've known for years and let's be honest, if people had super powers they probably wouldn't be as we'll adjusted and virtuous as they are in the big franchise films |

Interstellar
All of the old star treks
Equilibrium "
Equilibrium is such an underated classic. Philip K Dicks books are responsible for some awesome films, blade runner, minority report, total recall and many more. |

I don’t see the appeal in superhero films, not slagging them off, just not for me. However ‘the boys’ is fantastic and I should hate it, but if I like it, it’s got to be good for a subject that would normally bore the pants off me ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |
