Seriously though (sorry) I think it's because women are encouraged to compliment other women and as a result are more inclined to do so.
Whereas men, as mentioned already, have traditionally been discouraged from doing so in case appreciation is seen as gay.
Bloody ridiculous really, as surely a person can appreciate another person without actually being attracted to them!
And then of course there is the unpopular yet so true fact that compliments given between women or between men in the open are sometimes retracted in private, bitching happens with women and men though, so that's pretty universal. |

Women do this more freely as I don’t think we have those hang ups that men have. It’s an old age thing that they have to be manly and if I like the look of another man’s body people will think I’m gay or bi, it’s a similar reaction when anal play is mentioned.

It is probably about perception of intent. I think women are more able to give a compliment because it's justified and it not carry any meaning beyond itself. Whereas men usually pay a compliment for a reason, or with a reason behind it.
It's probably the same reason why two straight women can share a bed happily enough but men would generally baulk at the idea |
