The long riders is the true story of the the James brothers and their gang which also had 3 sets of brothers, the film also had 3 sets of actor brothers to play them

"I thought this was about hotels.
Class is always discernable by one's thoughts young man. "
I've only ever stayed in one Best Western and that was in the back-side of Nevada and the only place available. It was rough. |

The Long Riders was a superb film as were the the brilliantly staged slow motion shoot out sequences - complete with major blood letting everywhere! (remember when Kieth Carradine took a bullet to the face and it exploded through his other cheek?)
My personal favourite Westerns of all time though: Sergio Leone’s, Dollars trilogy |

Anything with John Wayne in it, Rio Lobo, The Searchers, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, True Grit
Although one of my all time faves stars James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich in Destry Rides Again, always watch that when it’s on |

"What about bone tomahawk, crazy fucked up film"
I loved that film....until the final third or so which shifts from a brilliant character driven Western (superb performances from all involved!) and suddenly transmutes into a full on Ruggero Deodato/Umberto Lenzi cannibal fest
It was certainly original but left a bit of a bad taste for me.
Talking of star, Kurt Russell Westerns though, Tombstone is another classic of the genre |

The Grey. Brought back all the days of pioneering and getting caught unprepared in the great outdoors. That it's still a savage place to find yourself.
Also gene hackman and James caan did films about the sheer hard work of homsteading in those days. Tough lonesome existences. |

"Can I throw the classic, Westworld in to even though it could be argued that it actually falls more into the science fiction genre?
I watched it again the other night "
Good shout |

The best with a modern day setting
No country for old men
Not even a contest
But I'll give hell or highwater a honourable mention
Underrated gems
The quick and the dead
Last man standing
Netflix also has the series godless...not without its flaws but worth your time and it's only a limited series |

To many to choose from, but has to be ones with John Wayne or James Stewart in.
"The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and "Winchester 73" are two of my favourites.
Closely followed by "Chisum" which has some classic John Wayne lines!
The there is Clint Eastwood of course which I would pick "The Outlaw Josey Wales" |
