Growing up was there any benign Characters on TV, whether cartoon, fictional, non fictional that freaked you out or give you the creeps, even though they weren’t supposed to be creepy. I always had an Irrational dislike of Scrappy Doo, thought he was just a little twat ?! |

He always struck me as a loose cannon, to be fair all of Rainbow gave me the creeps, even Rod Jane and Freddie |

It was “I’ll get you my pretty” that freaked me |

Another one: Remember the classic kids TV show Words And Pictures?
There was a very badly animated, weird ghost like character that used to feature in it which was superimposed against the live presenters.
I can’t remember it’s name sadly but do recall that it used to unsettle me somewhat.....

"Rabbit from Pipkins
Basil Brush I didn’t like the upper class look he had. "
Agreed! Hartley Hare from Pipkins looked like the taxidermist fucked him over |

I think that was probably Wordy, the animated character
Appeared usually with the presenter Henry Woolf |

That’s the one I found him quite unsettling... |

"Rhubarb & Custard used to disturb me a tad.
The music and wobbly animation style I found to be a little disquieting for some reason...."
I loved the theme tune, but the pulsing screen used to make me feel sick |

It was much akin to trying to watch TV whilst on a Thorpe Park ride..... |

"Godzooky was a bit annoying
"
As was that daft music that accompanied his entrance during the title sequence.
‘Godzilla......and Godzuuuuuuuukkkkiiiiii’
And another thing; even though he was a fraction of the size of the big guy, how did Godzuki not sink that ship that he and the humans sailed around on? He must have weighed at least ten tons. |

"Grotbags from the pink windmill. That woman looked like my mum in a face pack. Terrified me "
This is exactly who I was thinking of but I couldn't remember her name. |

Willo The Wisp; His odd, ghost like appearance and indeed his voice (provided by the late Kenneth Williams no less) proved a little scary for me.
Also that terrifying looking television set in the show.....shudder. |

Floella Benjamin. There was something manic about her that gave me nightmares.
Noel Edmonds was another one, I never liked him from multicolour swap shop and I didn't like him any better on house party. I think he reminded me of a very shouty neighbour we had when I was a toddler, and that's initially why he scared me. |

The Mormons were the stuff of my nightmares, not the nice drawn animation you get now but at weird pseudo claymation version back in the early 80’s.
Can’t explain why but it super freaked me out |

Why bird from Playdays used to freak me out. I used to demand the TV was switched off if it landed on her. Which meant for many arguments with younger siblings |

"Zippy in Rainbow used to scare me as did many of the Muppets and some of the characters from Sesame Street "
It didn't help that Peter Hawkins, who originally provided the voice for Zippy, also provided voices for the Daleks. |

No way?!?! Didn't know that..
Davros was especially freaky even though he couldn't go up stairs. |

I was looking down the thread thinking , I can't believe nobody's put worzel gummidge . Glad I'm not the only one that remember s him. I watched it all the time, even though I didn't like him. That's lack of choice we had then. |

Here’s another one: Gordon from Thomas The Tank Engine.
He was a stern looking brute and I didn’t like the cross faces he used to pull (which he did fairly frequently)
Thomas himself, whilst not scary, did nonetheless cause me some not inconsiderable upset once when he went too fast for poor old Annie and Clarabel - resulting in a major derailment (and probable train service cancellations for the rest of the day!) |
