New faces .... or I should say, new names

I’m curious - if you’re new, or a previous lurker, what type of post did you see that compelled you to post?

Do you think you’re going to continue after the madness has ended, or is this just a filler?

Do you feel that the forum is inclusive, or do you feel that you are a voice in the midst of a large crowd?

It’s changed so much over the last 3 weeks and I wonder if this is just another phase.... and I’ve seen many many over the years

Disclaimer - I don’t reply to every post

Not new as I normally only post in the Irish forums and don't have time to look through the others.

Lockdown gives me more time to do that now but I still only post if I see something relevant.

Been on and off fab for 3 years but only posted in the forums last year for the first time.

..

I have been here since 2016. I was Babsjoan but killed Joan off because I got fed up with all the BJ comments (no I didn’t think of the initials first) So I’m Babs.

I think the forums could be more inclusive and friendlier. It would be great to see more variety in the people to who start threads - some new people perhaps? (Saying this as a person who very rarely starts a thread!)

I suspect that a lot of people who have returned will disappear again after these troubling times and people who only joined during the crisis will be disappointed

However they come or whatever reason you stay, be kind and have fun

Been here a few years now but only last 6 months I've started paying in the forums. I used to log on and spend an absolute age sifting through messages but stopped replying to everyone it just got too much. So I've taken a step back from the messages and the older ones just self delete and keep on top of the face pic Friday, pvc roulette etc on the forums

I have been on here a while but only started using the forums more recently, like just before lockdown. But since lockdown and not being at work my consumption has increased. Generally the forums are a good way to meet people and have good conversations. It can often feel as though you’re being ignored or that everyone already knows everyone but reply or no reply, I usually comment on threads because I enjoy feeling like a part of a discussion. I used to use the chatrooms and going they were far worse for it.

I hope any new joiners stick around though because it’s pretty cool in here.

most fundamental aspects

I have been sporadically posting for a couple of years.

I tend to either drop a silly one liner into threads or get very deep and detailed in my posts.

There is definitely an element of seeing regulars doing their thing without acknowledging others. It very much depends on the type of thread. What I tend to do, is post for the lurkers rather than those others posting, who often are more interested in what they’re posting than what else is being said. I get a lot of PMs from lurkers following my post to thank me or ask more questions.

I will read threads all the way through before posting and wherever I can, correct misinformation. I also try to be helpful towards those asking for advice on situations or activities they want to try.

I have been on and off fab for a few years now.

I started to post in the forums at the start of lockdown as a way to still feel like I am “socialising” however have now stopped posting (other than this thread).

The feeling I get, and I reiterate this is just my feeling, is that as someone, particular a male, using the forums relatively recently, I am a voice lost in a large crowd that often gets overlooked or just ignored.

This isn’t the case with every forum user I have come across, but unfortunately feels like the vast majority, and so I have returned to just lurking, the exception being posting here.

I used to feel this way and still do at times.

But if you stay active people will recognise you name and interact more.

Play games, both in the games section and the ones in lounge etc where you can interact with others and can PM people without feeling like you're being annoying

I've gotten to know a fair few people this way so I know from experience the more you put in and staying positive and being friendly goes along way.

I came back because of lockdown. I use both chat and the forum, just like I did previously when I was a daily (ish) user.

I look through the posts to see what ones I can comment on, give an opinion or find interesting so no specific post that made me come back (so to speak).

Guess we'll see when lockdown is over, whether I'm here still.

There are so many new faces.

I am very new.

I try to contribute wherever I can. Usually a call for action get me going. Something funny also get my attention.

I will continue after the "madness".

I think the forum is inclusive. I feel generally people are nice and supportive here. Even more so since the isolation started. If people want to they can make a stand for themself or they can blend into the background.

I think things will go back to as it was once the Covid 19 gets under control.

It can feel that way at times regardless of whether you're a new poster or a regular one and that can be said for Forums and Facebook group pages all over the internet, it's not restricted to here - but quite often your posts aren't overlooked just don't require further comment or several people have said the same thing at the same time or any number of other reasons but you'll be surprised how much you actually *are* noticed, especially the more you post.

So don't give up on them just yet, and remember you're as much a part of them and what makes them what they are as much as the next person.

I mainly read, sometimes comment. I am trying to be a good screen role model to my kids and I find I have to invest A LOT of time in the forums to keep up...plus I’m truly shit at remembering names, and with the pics changing all the time...hopeless! So I don’t feel like I’m really ‘part’ of the forums at all...I just like joining in sometimes.

I have a bit more free time and less of a rush in the mornings so I can stay up later. And recent chats with a fwb (currently just a fwkik) have helped me embrace an emerging exhibitionist!!

"I mainly read, sometimes comment.

"I have been on and off fab for a few years now.

Wise man "

"New faces .... or I should say, new names

Disclaimer - I don’t reply to every post "

I’ve been in Fab almost ten months and honestly, I can’t remember what thread caught my eye.

I’ll continue to post after the madness is over. I’ve met some of the nicest people in the world and developed friendships with a few women (and men) who are incredible.

I feel I have a voice on the threads I comment on.

The forums have changed in the respect that they’re busier, new names and faces.

I've been here about 3 months. I was trying to get more involved in the forums before the lockdown but I struggled to be honest. I felt as though it was very difficult to break into the conversations that were going on.

I've found it easier since the lockdown, I think it was one of the how are you coping threads that helped me to feel seen and I now have the confidence to join in more.

I hope to still be around after the lockdown as I'm enjoying the social side of it xx

Shame that, we can honestly say we've not felt judged and we're reasonably new also. We get some weird ass messages but the forums have friendly, although we don't reply to some topics and prefer to keep it relatively light hearted. If you spend much time in the Virus forum, I'd perhaps suggest avoiding that if you want to avoid controversy as it does seem to be fairly divisive on there unfortunately.

We changed our name once.

To add a single letter.

The letter J

We got some really horrendous messages about us being mother and son/father and son because I missed a single letter when setting up the profile

"Lovely reading these "

I’ve been fascinated reading through this thread again since I last posted.

What fascinates me, are people’s perceptions of themselves, of how they think others perceive them and how others do clearly perceive them from follow up comments.

What I didn’t put earlier was my previous name, which was CastleGateKeeper. It was a throwback to my old modding days and when I first began swinging, so old faces may recognise me. I got sick of having to give out the whole name to people I met in clubs. Most of whom would forget it by the time they retrieved their phones. So I changed it a couple of months ago.

I'm probably spending as much time on here as I did ten years ago, which after a very long break (of around five years!) has proved interesting.

Very few names I recognise from a decade ago (although Floro - you were definitely Floro as far back as 2012!) but apart from all the new faces little has changed. Which is to be expected.

Fab imitates wider life. People come. People go. The frequent postersstand out, the occasional ones too - even if they don't realise it.

The jokers, the ranters, the wingers, the worriers, the attention seekers, the rapidly unlos - can all be found in abundance.

It is what it is and always will be.

A

This thread is a great read.

I generally enjoy the forums.

and joined because I liked the depth of engagement it had to offer.

Their will always be different points of view and don't expect everyone to want to associate with you.

Just be humble and make things right if your wrong.
