Used to walk from town centre all the time and as said takes 20 minutes.

Straightforward route down commercial street and commercial road. Church street is on the left hand side at the bottom of commercial road.

Definitely take a taxi though, pillgwenlly is not the most salubrious areas of Newport at night.
