"Not sure on our Welsh geography but is this anywhere near Aberdovey? We're heading down at the end of the month so it would be nice to chat with anyone in the area. "
Porthmadog is a fair way away - hour and a half I’d say. Lovely drive though |

Might have a drive out one day, we're keen to take in as much of the area as possible while we are down. |

Do that - it’s a gorgeous area. I’d get up to the Mawddach Estuary, which is stunning.
You’ll be pretty close to Machynlleth, which is a nice little town in a lovely settling. You might well hear quite a bit of Welsh spoken, as its the first language for a lot of people. I love hearing it .
Do you like mountain walking/hiking? There’s some wonderful spots - CaderIdris, the Rhinogs range etc. |

We'll be packing the walking gear so we'll look forward to checking out what's on offer. |

I’ll happily send some suggestions. I’m not after anything, honest - I’m just a frustrated tour guide . |

"Any suggestions would be welcome. We're only down for a week so intend making the most of it. "
Definitely do Cader Idris if youre keen walkers. The Minffordd trail is a fabulous way up, but it is tough at the start. I’d recommend Cregennen lakes near Cader - great isolated, beautiful place.
I’d definitely take the coast road from Aberdovey to Dolgellau at some pojnt - that’ll include the gorgeous Mawddach Estuary I mentioned.
Morfa Dyffryn is a wonderful nudist beach!
Ynyslas Nature Reserve is lovely, and the Osprey bird project is nearby.
There’s some lovely wild country inland from Machynlleth.
Going up into the main areas of Snowdonia, Beddgelert is a nice village, but busy in summer. I’d avoid Snowdon (rammed) and walk in the Moelwyn range or other areas away from the main mountains.
Portmeirion is lovely - the Italianate village that featured in The Prisoner tv series in the 1960s. Many people just stay in the village, but there are great walks in the woods.
