It’s a hard one! Patriotism at its extreme! We all hate the English, it’s inbred in us, but as a nation, you would want to see one of us take the crown don’t you think?

If we didn't have to put up with England fans for the next 4 years, I'd be enjoying the game as a neutral. However we do have to put up with England fans so, rather the team that put us out win it.

England are clear favourites but it's mentally tough to perform to the same level as last week,. They were brilliant as much as it hurts me to say.

Not allowing Bill Beaumont to put the medal around they're neck was very disrespectful to the whole tournament, England played they're final last Saturday it was always going to be a big ask to repeat that performance and SA would always be a very difficult physical challenge.

Welsh fans are not bitter

We were beaten by a squad with a specific game plan . Sane as England were today.

But for players to either remove or refuse the wear their medals is a total lack of respect for the game the hosts country and their fans. Hope the english players get fined or reprimanded for that action. I have played RUGBY for many years in both codes and have never witnessed a disrespectful action as this . Nothing like being gracious in defeat. Just accept it you lost to a better team

"I'm English and an England fan - I used to cheer Wales on until I realised how bitter the fans were "

I was at Twickenham for the opening ceremony of the 1991 World Cup. The Ruperts in the crowd booed the Welsh contingent as they paraded around the pitch.

I’ve had loads of abuse at Twickenham over the years. I have no problem saying that plenty of Welsh fans take it too far with England. The idea that English fans are whiter than white is ridiculous though.

Just to say - I was happy for England to have won today. I’m a bit relieved there won’t be the media gushing over it for years to come though. If Wales were ever to win it, you’d never hear the end of it in Wales, but it’d soon be old news elsewhere. If England won it, it would be very different.

That’s not the fault of the English at all, just the unusual way that the National media works across the UK.

It's the media, pundits and that clown of a coach that make England so disliked by many. The squad seem like a decent bunch of lads. But the stroppy medal thing yesterday didn't do them any favours either. England are their own worst enemy most of the time

I would agree, but your desire to get banged by Mike Brown disqualifies you from an opinion .

Being serious though, most England players and fans are good folk. I think with the fans, the ones from both sides who follow the game week in week out (like you do) are ok.

I would have been happy for the English team and my friends if they won. It’s the fact we expect a UK-wide, (mostly) London-based national media to be even-handed and it’s understandably England dominated that stirs things up.

My mate was beaten to a pulp by squaddies from Yorkshire training in Wales for being a “Welsh c**t”.

He’s English, but lives here.

The idea there’s no anti-Welsh stuff is ludicrous. I heard it regularly living in England (almost always low-level stuff, but it happened). I’ve heard it from English people living in Wales on a number of occasions too.

This is not to say that Welsh people are saints - there’s many idiots here. It’s not all one way though.

Ha ha. You always make me laugh

I’m quite happy to accept that we’ve got loads and England has loads too. Maybe it’s the same proportion-wise or - 19.7% or something.

I guess with Wales, there’s that underlying thing of memories of The Welsh Not, belittling of the language (I do get annoyed when I hear it’s “dead”, it’s rubbish) etc.

At the end of the day though, I’d far rather be friends with a nice English person than a Welsh idiot though

I promise you if you were Welsh and lived in England you’d hear it .

Even in Wales. My work brings me into contact with visitors from England - I’m passionate about helping them have a great visit to this place. This summer I got told the Welsh were “spongers” and also that a (usually excellent) event was badly organised because “Welsh people were in charge”. Total bollocks.

Seriously - the English aren’t perfect either.

I love a bit of rugby rivalry and banter and think England did themselves no favours behaving like children after the World Cup

We're English and to be fair we'd hate to be left out.

My personal take on Wales.

The north hates the South as they think they are non Welsh speaking English.

The South hates the north thinking that they are plastic Scousers.

The West hates the East because they think they are non Welsh speaking English.

The East hates West Wales basically because they can't understand them.

So I'd be gutted to be left out.

Tongue in cheek banter before anyone has a breakdown.

Yeah, most have 80 min hatters/strong agendas and wouldn’t that into everyday life.

Same as Mancs day they hate Scousers, or Geordies hate Mackems. Some idiots from those places might use it as a reason to kick off away from the game, but most would be fine in everyday life.

In fairness, I do think The Welsh agonise over their bigger neighbours, whereas The English don’t give a sh*t about us. That’s pretty standard for the relationships between the small guy and the big guy. I think it’s understandable that agonising exists given aspects of history e.g. the Welsh Not and the way the media is set up in the UK.

I remember watching Football Focus as a kid - it was all about England and then “the other home nations are also in action” at the end. I also remember watching Wales v England games on Sky and feeling like I was from a foreign country. Wales does mean stranger/foreigner in Anglo-Saxon mind.

It doesn’t bother me anymore. In some

Ways I wanted England to win the WC. I guess the issue is - if Wales won it and you lived in England, there’d be little fuss in the media after a few days. If England won it and you lived in Wales, you’d be bombarded with the success of the team you really want to beat for ever!

But that's just it...Anyone who's travelled or truly engaged with people from all over, know that you cant generalise or tarnish everyone, due to a few bad experiences.

I'm sure if you took the time to rationalise what you're saying youd change your mindset?

I must admit I do struggle with some of these xenophobic comments. We live in an inclusive society where, sexuality, race, gender etc should not be discussed with words such as hate. The American Civil Rights movement, LBGT raising awareness of prejudice and then on here people stating ‘I hate an entire nation’ because they are English! So you hate, pensioners, British Asians, Black people, English gay people, disabled people (providing they are English) you hate the men and women who have given their lives in wars and conflicts over the years in order to let you have freedom of speech, oh providing it was the English ones who were killed!

My favourite Einstein quote is ‘Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.

Thankfully in our years living, working and socializing in Wales we've never came across anyone like this but sadly it proves they are still alive and kicking in this day and age.

"We're English and to be fair we'd hate to be left out.

That's not a bad analogy though you missed out the problem with women painted/stained orange who frequent the zones between Bridgend and Llanelli. Is that tribal or did they fall in a vault of tango? "

Aww I am from a zone between Bridgend and Llanelli and I am as white as a sheet lol

Duw duw I hope my comments haven't been received as xenophobic

Any tongue in cheek dislike I portray for "the English" is purely in the interest of rugby banter, nothing more

I dont think any of those references were aimed at you.

Rugby banter is fine and I participate, but I cant say I've ever felt true hatred.

It's funny how we get programmed to believe by others....I had this image of every England player being a toffee nosed public school boy. Then good old Owen Farrel shot that down with his Northern accent.

In the absence of Wales, I supported England to win the cup.

If you feel hate, that's your problem which you carry.

Tbf I've stayed all over England for work and never had a problem with English people hating on Welsh (apart from one d*unk) and to be honest none of my friends hate English or have anything bad to say about them apart from when it comes to sport like rugby and then it's just banter.

It seemed to be different in Scotland though. When I went to Glasgow I was walking down the street and this guy shouted over to me in a strong Scottish accent..

"hey you where are you from?"

I said Wales and then he said

"well atleast your not fucking English"

That's good. People seem to twist things on here to try and sensationalise stuff. If I hated English people I would quite happilly say but I just enjoy taking the piss out of them when they lose at rugby as they are always the first to bite and it makes for a good laugh, nothing more

I went to a Roman Catholic secondary School in England and being a faith school there were quite a mix of ethnicities, probably 50% were English, followed by 1st, 2nd and 3rs generation Irish and in my year just one Welsh lad that I can recall. He had an older brother 2 years above. The worst I can recall was him being called Taffy (he was originally from Cardiff after all) and shouts of Yaki Dar and that was it.

When I was 13 or 14 I ran into some trouble with some 16 year old leavers from an adjacent inner city school, there were 6 or 7 of them setting about another lad and myself and I confess we were feeling very outnumbered and intimidated. Anyway Taffy's older brother rounded the corner and in the blink of an eye took three of them with well placed head punches before another 3 or 4 overwhelmed him. It was a proper skirmish and they bundled him into a timber 6ft timber fence which had a gate in it which collapsed under the weight of them. He kept getting up and they kept knocking him back down...in the end they gave up and backed off leaving his clothes torn and his face bloodied. He still took the time to check we were ok getting home before catching his bus. I remember the altercation clearly and what always impressed me was that he didn't hesitate for a second and even seemed to enjoy the fight. I always had the greatest respect for Taffy and his brother after that - warriors through and through.
