Very beneficial insects most of the year - they eat LOADS of pesky biting type flies. It is only in the Autumn when they become more of a nuisance - this is because, as the social structure of the nest breaks down, the workers (now with free time on their hands) gorge themselves on the fermented sugar in rotten fruit and become aggressive and d*unk - sound familiar? |
