The next Cardiff Social...Sat. 26th Sept

We've been giving some thought to the next social and feel it would be nice to end the summer on a high note...providing that doesn't clash with the brilliant Swansea social.
Before we decide on a venue we'd like to hear some input from all you sexy guys n gals with your thoughts on whether to stick with the same venue or to try somewhere new.
We have our own thoughts on this. The Great Western has a good feel about it and admission is free. We could all meet there at the start of the night, downstairs this time, so we could comandeer the dance floor before it gets too busy.
From there we could go on to Reflex for those of us that love 80's music or perhaps ClubX which is open til 6am! Due to the nature of this club - it's a gay club but welcomes straight folk - dress can be sexier and raunchier for those wishing to express themselves lol.
So come on folks, get writing as we need to hear your views on this. After all, it's your social and it's you lot that have made the Welsh socials such a success. xxx

a nice hotel out of the way where we can have a party a buffet and stay over would be good, but ppl have to let you know earlier enuff and send their deposits, could be a very nice and wicked night |

the great western was great but we will enjoy were ever it is held plus its my birthday as well so cant think of a better way to celebrate it than with the guys and gals from the welsh room  x x x jackie |

We looooove the hotel idea kitt. Maybe it would be one to plan for Christmas as an extra-special event.
How we'd collect the money though would be a headache.

You're not the only one to mention about the difficulty in getting served at the bar Caroline. It didn't affect me as Sean did the bar run all night lol. But it's a valid point hun. xxx |

This is getting freeky now  yes another great idea! payment could be made at the social before the "hotel" social this would give you:
a the numbers actually going
b payment for the function room
c actually see if the person /persons are suitable and not someone who would cause trouble when they get a wittle dwank  |

We will be there come hell or high water, i like the western personally, a hotel room is a good idea but as you said collecting the money would be a headache. Still wherever you hold it i'm sure it will be a blast!! |

Last venue not too bad as we all easliy took up that particular corner! However it was a nightmare to get served (at the bar). Why not have a themed night; tarts and vicars sort of thing? xx |

Nice idea Kitten - but I think this is the sort of thing you would arrange as well as a social - not instead of one.
The great thing about the socials as they stand is that people can more or less decide at the last minute and just turn up - which is perfect for the new and nervous and those people who need to arrange babysitters etc.
Making people book and pay in advance will just put those people off from coming altogether.
I'm not saying its a bad idea - quite the opposite, its just not the right format for the site's monthly social |

I think Tobe's right, although an hotel etc sounds like a good idea too. The format thats developed so far seems to suit most people quite well, although it would be nice to have it in a private room like the Swansea one, but this brings with it the extra ball-ache of organising and paying for it.
I did notice a few young lads coming over to eyeball the ladies semi-d*unken antics, and if the meet was held in a private room we could avoid this, plus any unecessary unwanted attention this may bring. However, that being said, the flip-side is that you then are tied to one location, and that can be a bit of a bind if people decide en-masse that reflex should be invaded, or the local kebab hostelry should be decimated lol!
Now, if a place could be found with a private room, some banging 80's choons, a pole on a dance floor for the ladies, and a chippie around the corner.... then I would hazard a guess it would be a winner, but unfortunately such places are few and far between!!
Maybe the Cardiff social should carry on as it is, apart form the wait at the bar its pretty good in the western, there are enough of us guys around to "dissuade" any trouble-makers and we can all venture out to various clubs etc during the months until a favourite pattern develops?

Kitten: I hear you hun - and I honestly think your original idea of a social at a hotel with a private room ect is a great idea - anothr site I'm on does socials just like that and they are an absolute scream - but given the expense and the organising they take you'd be pushed to get more than maybe 1 every 3 months or so - and you'd want to make it more for committed an established members rather than a come-as-you-are type event.
I'd be well up for helping you organise something like that tho if your really interested.

altho there was a bit of curiosity from a few of the "civilians" at the GW, it never seemed too intrusive to me and lets face it - having a civilian audience adds a bit of an edge to the evening thats kinda fun - cos they arent in on the secret that we are in on
I had a chat with the security staff there, they were very switched on and refreshingly professional rather than just being hired meatheads - so I cant see things ever geting out of hand there.
So yes - a private room would be great - and perhaps a bit more of a plan for the evening in terms of where we will be at what times if we decide to move to different venues might add something to it - but overall its difficult to really find fault with the night or the venue.

Tobleton, I must shake your hand next time we meet hun...which I'm hoping will be at the next social in Sept. Sod shaking hands...snogs are order of the day methinks lol.
I have read everyone's comments with great interest and the general consensus seems to be that most people like The Great Western.
We do...it's been our local for a good night out for the past couple of years so I know for a fact the venue is safe and well-organised from a security front. It's rare to see any trouble there but when it happens the bouncers are very professional about nipping it in the bud...and no, it wasn't me being forcefully ejected pmsl.
It's handy to be able to have the top section of the venue pretty much to ourselves. And I'm with you Tobleton, let lesser mortals stop and stare with envy in their eyes. As a member of the fairer sex, I find a little outside interest quite complimentary providing it doesn't get out of hand.
And regarding the difficulty getting served at the bar, Sean has had a word with management to see if they can lay on a couple more barstaff for us at the next social. It seems this won't be a problem to arrange.
All this being said, things are never set in stone with the Wales night out. Keep up the suggestions folks...all ideas are being listened to with interest. xxx

Such a pity kitt. That situation has entered my head as we have friends who may well bump into us at The Great Western. It's a difficult one to solve. And before our daughter moved to Leeds there was always the chance we'd bump into her on our travels.

I myself much as I would love to come to a social again, sadly cant do GWH due to family connections with that pub as wouldnt like it to slip out to family that I swing lol. well the offer still stands to help you organise a hotel social for established members and regulars
