It could be that a cable from the screen to the motherboard has come loose. Google for your brand of laptop and there will be advice on how to check the cables, if it isnt that you can buy new screens online that aren't too expensive and are easilly fitted if you are confident enough to do it that is.
I've fixed a few of my workmates, neighbours and friends laptops that have had screen problems like you described. |

when it boots first you should get option to boot manually. find option to go back to most recent successfull boot. you will have to interrupt normal boot to do this. the option will be one of the f keys. good luck. |

I have all the reboot cds for acer here which would bring it back to factory settings which could help. But it sounds like you might be a hardware problem. |

An acer laptop you say,
take out the battery..
Leave the power cable unplugged
Hold the power button down for 8 seconds dont let go!! and plug the power cable back in whilst your finger is still on the power button..
let go after a further 3 seconds, and then put battery back in and press power button..
This will do a BIOS reset, its a commen fault with acer laptops.
next step if you still cannot get into windows, put a windows disk in (XP vista or 7, whichever you have on the laptop)
Boot to the disk, might need to press F8 or something during boot up to show the boot from CD option..
might take a while, fiddle around there and there will be options to repair windows..
best thing to do would be somehow get to a command prompt and run "CHKDSK"
Wait a while and when it says done, reboot..
Hope this helps!! |
