Stocked in the biscuit isle but my thoughts are that they are a cake surely, as biscuits are hard for you to dunk in your cuppa yet Jaffa cakes the only so called 'biscuit' that is soft |

"Technically biscuits go soft when left out, and cakes go hard. So they say, keep some out the biscuit tin for a few days and let us all know ????
" They tend to go hard after a while |

"Biscuit as I dunk it, and wouldn't serve it at afternoon tea as the cake selection
Stop it I've already told you your a wrong un
It's a flat cake " you wouldn't serve a Jaffa cake on a plate with a fork and pouring cream. So it's not a cake
Now shush! |

Ah but who makes the best one? I find the M&S dark chocolate version superior but more expensive. ASDA own brand also taste very good and at 60p that is a hard act to follow.
omg, I really need to get a life! |

They are a cake.
Partly because of the court case. But also apparently they go hard like a cake does if left.. where as biscuits go soft..
Wouldn't know biscuits and cake never last long enough for me to test the theory. |

McVities defended its classification of Jaffa Cakes as cakes at a VAT tribunal in 1991, against the ruling that Jaffa Cakes were biscuits due to their size and shape, and the fact that they were often eaten in place of biscuits. ... In size, the Jaffa Cake is more like a biscuit than a cake. |

Also, when I open a packet I do find I have to eat the whole lot at one sitting. One, because of the 'drying' problem and two, if I leave a half eaten packet then the rats will get them....well the kids but its the same thing only they don't shit in the cupboard when they have finished. |

They also mean that a man is infertile apparently. I recently had a meet where a man referred to himself as a "Jaffa" I smiled and said that's nice. Think he was saying that he was sweet? |

In 1991 it's was ruled that they were cake not buscuits (VAT payable)
mcvities weren't happy with that!
(It's also orange jam on top with a Genovese cake base)
There also soooo lush!
I'm a big fan. Love jammy dodgers too! |
