I never know how to describe my body...I'd say it was curvy (i'm bonafide size 12) but curvy is used to describe BBW these days...so i choose athletic as i'm fairly strong and toned But don't have a six pack or any real definition...
Either way you can't win!! |

The goal posts are forever being shifted on this one. I remember when athletic build actually meant having the build of an athlete. You know a real athlete like Seb Coe or Roger banister. These days, unless you are a steroid popping, iron pumping, top heavy, meat factory and swivel from the waist as you walk, then apparently you are not athletic. In case anyone wants to remember what a real athletic build should look like, I have enclosed the following link.

I'm athletic, and not even a fatty in denial.. Woop! Woop! I have seen, however, people who are clearly fat fighter rejects and state they're slim... the types of people you wanna keep away from.. |

I think a lot of single males need to change their profile from althetic to average - if your not overweight it dong make you althetic either lol and as for myself I'm happy to be classed as large rather than curvy so it don't give anyone a wrong impression xx |

The athletic thing is an awkward one
To me an athletic guy is one who is fairly muscular, with a bit of bulk as well as being physically fit with plenty of stamina.
Think professional rugby player.
Someone who is lean and trim i.e someone who cycles or runs long distance isn't what pops into my head when I see the word "athletic". I'd say those types are more slim/average.
But in all honesty, how others choose to describe themselves isn't really high on my list of priorities.
But it is all subjective |

"So why do some gents here insist on saying they are athletic and are clearly not when you look at their pic's ???"
So what's athletic? In your opinion?
If they have pictures make your own mind up as to wether they're athletic or not. |

Surely seeing pics is far a better way than relying on somebodys self description, if body type is a big deal to you.

Seems to me that everything is changed for peoples own convenience these days.
Athletic is just that someone who could be an athlete Toned bodies hardly any fat.
stick thin people who would collapse running for a bus and live on 2 packets of quavers a day are just skinny. |

The man writing here.
I describe myself as 'average' because I am apparently close to average build for my age and height. But I am very fit and do brisk walking a lot, 10 to 25 miles a week.
3 months ago I started a programme of regular daily training and am pleased to say I've so far both lost significant weight and put on noticeable muscle, hopefully to continue. So at what point can I describe myself as 'athletic'? Or is that too implausible for someone of my age? |

I guess in the context of how you look athletic is muscular, fairly low body fat, but not on the level of a bodybuilder.
I only use it as I train like an athlete and compete in sport.
I personally think 'athletic' is about capability rather than image and you can be an athlete at any age.
If you feel you are athletic then use it. I doubt anyone will argue |

I put on weight a few months ago. so much so that my clothes became uncomfortable. Decided to diet, exercise etc but till I could get round to it I decided to get new trousers. Well, what do you know, I am not a fat bastard, I am the new Mr average. 38" waist. You try buying trousers size 38. All the other fat bastards have bought them. Decided to give up on the keep fit regime. I shall continue to slob about and be happy |

I really don't get this either, Why would people lie just to get instantly caught out? I used to be pretty big back in the day so I don't care if I'm average now |

Yeah probably ...but unless they are some kind of athlete themselves then their opinion isnt valid.
The guy sounds like he's in pretty good shape. He also intends on improving, which is the mindset of an athlete |

Maybe they wrote their profile whilst looking in one of those mirrors from the old fun house in Barry Island?
I put average, it's been a while since I had a body like a racing snake. If somebody takes the time to look at my pic and thinks I'm better than average then fine with me |

how can you really define "Athletic".....
Some of my clients are a lot bigger than others but twice as fit! Others are a lot smaller but twice as strong! So which is Athletic and which isn't? They're all in good shape or at least better than when they started...
Athletic i guess is a journey, they might not be model material or the type you would see in a fitness magazine yet.. but they have improved to what they were when they started. The point I'm making is to you or me or us they might not look as if they're in great shape but who knows they might have lost two stone previous to that photo or gained a few pounds of muscle and feel good about themselves and finally comfortable to post these pics.
"Athletic" to me is someone in general good shape and looks after themselves by doing some sort of athletic / fitness program whether its weight training powerlifting boxing martial arts swimming cycling running tennis etc...
If anyone is looking for any help or advice with training programs or diets please feel free to inbox me and help you out as best I can.
Hope this wasn't to controversial |
