Temporarily renting in Radyr after living away for 30+ years and taking early retirement. Looking to buy a property sometime next year in one of the valleys and intend starting to look soon. I know the Merthyr valley very well but not the Rhymney valley. Some of my preferences, some more important than others, are:
- In walking distance of a railway station. I drive but socialise a lot in Cardiff. A plus here is there are 4 trains an hour to Bargoed.
- Decent Drs surgery
- Shops nearby
- A decent pub nearby
Can anyone living in this area suggest which places might be worth looking at and say why? Just looking for some pointers - good or bad.
Cheers

You could look at Ystrad Mynach, Hengoed , Pengam or bargoed. All have train stations. Ystrad doctors serves Hengoed as well and is a very good Dr's surgery.most have working mens clubs in the village and Ystrad and bargoed also have pubs x |
