Does anyone know the 'rules' about giving blood if you have had sex with a man who has had sex with another man - even with a condom?
Someone mentioned you can't give blood for 12 months?
I personally used condoms for penetration (always do) but not for oral but can't vouch for what the other parties have done previously
Am i best not giving just to be on the safe side or have I got it wrong? |

You have to declare it on the preliminary questionnaire and if you say yes you will be asked further questions in the private face to face bit which will assess your level of risk. |

I don't know exactly but I'm guessing that it will be an in depth discussion about that partner and your interaction with him. There's a help line you can call to talk about it with someone which will save you the time and effort in turning up for the preliminaries only to be turned away for saying yes to that one question. |

An informative post, glad you posted this as I didn't know any of this. Apparently I can't donate regardless due to getting tattooed on a regular basis, shame |

"Seems if you have anal with men the general rule is no.
Silly really as I'm sure they'd test blood for things anyway? "
Testing is far stricter these days following the Tainted Blood scandal of the 70s and 80s where 1000s of British people were infected with H.I.V and Hep C from infected blood products mainly taken from U.S prisoners.
Any measures which reduce the risk to recipients of blood products gets a
from me, as silly and trivial as it may seem to others. |

I have a rare blood group so even the nurse was narked when I went to give blood and confessed to a bit of analology with men.
But understand if it's for a good reason. |
