I'm not doubting that it's tough but instead of investing money in Cardiff why don't they invest some in the valleys

Having lived in Cardiff Nottingham & Birmingham cities offer plenty but nothing can substitute valley community and shear wackyness. So glad to be back but it's just my viewpoint

I envy the community spirit valleys people seem to share, but some of those towns appear grim and depressing. But I guess if it's home and what you have always known, it's not important how it appears to visitors.

Don't worry ! The Welsh assembly are going to attract inward investment and new jobs for all the deprived areas. Soon.

"I'm not doubting that it's tough but instead of investing money in Cardiff why don't they invest some in the valleys "

If they invested up there your cost of living would go up but also you would lose the views and community spirit up there, although there is a lot of companies investing in Swansea and Cardiff Id probably opt to stay in valleys and commute it will still probably work out cheaper

I agree with brains the companies will always be near the motorway as transport links are every thing

Cardiff

I grew up in Hampshire, moved to the Channel Islands then to Hereford, so I have moved about somewhat! However apart from Hampshire everywhere I have moved to there has been a close community spirit! I love living in the valleys 'butt' lol until England play Wales, then it becomes tiresome lol

nobody with money wants to invest .if it takes 40 mins just to get to the M4 .

the reason the valley towns were built are no longer .

mines / steelworks.

Transport costs a fortune . so they save as much as they can .

but living in semi rural locations has its benefits i can walk to open fields and walk in lovely countryside and chat to people i know everyday.....i chat to them because if i didn't tell them my bussiness they would make it up anyway lol..

Ivery worked with a lot of valley boys and what they tell me is that everybody knows everybody's buisness in the valleys. Everybody knows who's shagging who.

Nope!

Born and bred in the country, and I love it!

If I fell out of my front door I'd land in fields, I can see the mountains from my front window, and crime here is almost non-existent.

I have spent periods of up to 4 months in them there cities, and although it was different, it definitely wasn't better!

To be fair though, I've never lived in the valleys, but I do go into or through many small, and not so small, valley villages and towns for work, and some are rather grim.

I think if I lived right at the end of a "road to nowhere" in the deepest darkest valleys, and it was a small "one horse" town, I'd be tempted to move, but only down the valley a bit, so I could commute to where they had street lights lol!

Are you able to stay in the valleys and commute to cardiff to work?

The valleys are so beautiful ive got lots of friends who commute rather than move away x

I'm from newport originally but lived in London and Manchester and swansea before returning to a valley town. I liked city life but after a couple of years you miss the small community. The only drag is things to do but I suppose joining this site might help with that lol x

No !! It is wonderful - not. We get free prescriptions (some people can pay and should I think) and a rich, modern, thriving language rammed down our throats whether or not we want it. Nice debating chamber though. I wonder how a vote to keep them or boot them out would go ? I'm not a fan either .

If I could take my Lil ones with me I'd happily move away, probably oz. As that ain't gonna happen I'm happy and settled in the valleys, they are home....They have their issues and are pretty run down in areas but having been around the UK with work I'd say the people are probably the friendliest you'll meet

Don't you think most people would say the same about their own communities ? I wouldn't actually but that's probably my choice .

Not really, I know people living in cities that think they are shit holes and people ain't friendly.

It's also evident when you walk down the streets of some places, nobody stops and talks, the valleys aren't like that.....hence my comment
