Whatever happened to the good old days when doormen looked the part of being smart in their long black coats. Don't see that these days. Clubs where u could have a drink in peace without being groped like Monroes N courthouse. Good old days of 14 years ago.

Unfortunately the sia licence came in and everyone thought let's do that because pay went up when it was local authority licence pay wasn't as good so not everyone went for it

"Exactly they start them young these days I mean back then a good door man was 30 plus "

Most doormen these days don't have any common sense they'd rather cause animosity than prevent anything. Treat people with respect greet them all have a laugh but know where to draw the line and make sure they know the limit and you'll all have a good night. This generation looks at everyone as a trouble maker which causes issues before anyone goes in it's very sad really.

I used to love the courthouse still can't see how it closed down was always packed in there.

Hated munroes though I do have to say was a little to seedy for me with all the old ladies running around and the young boys running around like dogs with two dicks.

But you are right they just don't dress the same we have a company that works for us and to be fair the boys are good but then they turn up with hoodies on like they have just come straight from the gym x

After doing the doors for 24 years the main reason i ditched the cromby was its not that practical to deal with trouble wearing a thick over coat

I've been working on the doors of pubs and nightclubs for many years both pre and post sia. I ran my own company for a while providing security for whoever needed it and there are the guys and girls out there that do it well and the ones that are completely useless lol. I always thought that the banter and flirting helped the night go well and the friendly approach was the way to go until it was time to be not quite so friendly

Not sure the SIA is a bad thing. I was a doorman for years in the 80's and the industry was full of deadheads dealers bullies gobshites and no marks.

Anyone with an attitude and a badman tattoo would get a job. Now days the training (which was non existing) is good the responsibilities are spelt out and doorman generally are much better.

Now my son is a licensed doorman/close protection etc and he cant believe the stories I tell him about some of the gobshites you were forced to work with.

I'd say the SIA although not perfect is a move in the right direction

No amount of SIA training will make you ready to work the doors. I've worked some rough pubs and the new boys soon find out whether their cut out for the job or not.
