Just a quick question that has absolutely nothing to do with any other posts on the forum in particular, but I always been wondering:
What does the word "classy" means to fabsters? I have seen this word used soo many times on here but I guess in the end everyone gets down to the same business, so does it describe the way someone dress, behave, talk?

To me being classy is more than prancing about in an expensive pair of shoes sipping champagne.
Give me Strongbow and flipflops anyday and I just oooooze class |

classy is the very opposite to me...
just because I don't sip champagne or eat tapas doesn't make me less of a person....
I'm me and i would rather be comfortable around people who will have a laugh and a joke to someone who is very well up their own arse so to speak....
give me a kebab and a pint and a roll in the field over any classy establishment or person

'Classy' is a meaningless social construct that only has meaning for those people who believe it to exist & be important to them. It is just another, ignorant means of putting people down, usually preferred by those who believe themselves to be 'better' |

In terms of a venue, I'd say it describes a nice smart venue, such as a bar rather than a rafa club or something.
Not that there is anything wrong with either, but when trying to explain a place without actually saying the name or giving too much away, descriptions are needed.
Most people profiles are full of description that people can easily take offence too... |

Why not merely state 'a venue in Cowbridge', as do others in respect of their venues, some will be nicer than others as is the way, but setting it apart in such a way, is a little devisive. Just my own opinion which doesn't prevent me from attending any venue, regardless of the labelling x |

How can anyone take offence at the post?? Honestly. I am beyond words right now at the complete over reaction towards a post about a social. There is clearly an issue with it.
It wasn't used to describe anyone, no people were named. It's a word to describe a place. End of. But this has turned into a class distinction which has been brought about by the person who had an issue with the social being held a day before the Bridgend one.. Maybe some people cannot get child care for the sat but can for the Friday?? Maybe some people don't want to go to Bridgend because they live there and it's too close for home.. Whatever. People should have a choice what they attend and when they attend it. And if it conflicts with their child care or whatever else may stop them going, then sorry to say it. But that's life! I can't go to many things, I don't start a witch hunt over the words used to describe a venue. Which clearly has no malice.
I think this has been taken completely out of context. |

I've never said i was offended by the term classy. I was only wondering what other fellow fabsters think of it and its use.
My opinion is that there is not such a thing as "classy" because everyone and everything is different and we all have a different perception of the meaning of it.
I believe only manners and attitude define us as a nice individual, not appereance, beliefs, lifestyles or bank account.
I am surely not judging anyone who thinks differently.
I've only thought it might be a good topic for discussion, that's all. |

Another forum post turned into a slanging match over how someone has worded there forum thread for a social. Its getting very boring now.
I thought you had to be 18 to be on this site ?
How can anyone one find the word classy offensive ? Its simply a word that means elegant and stylish.
Now if it was the class system then I can understand that some would find it offensive. But I am working class and very proud to be so. Its doesnt mean anyone is better if the call themselves upper or middle class.
I have probably offended someone writing this but There We Are Then. I wont lose any sleep over it as I have more important things to worry about as Im sure most other people do on here

I'm not offended I was making a point about how others might view it, my comment was in relation to Miss Mavs own comment, I didn't bring up the venue issue I think you'll find she did that all by herself.
A social is made a success by the people who attend, the venue could be a field or a beach or wherever x |

- and to clarify my point on the previous thread was that the majority of people who attended the last social, don't usually attend the others, so it was nice to hve a choice for people to go where they feel comfortable. Wherever and whenever that may be.
Wasn't aimed at your comment peachy |

I don't see the problem in saying a place might be classy, you might call some places chavvy, or posh or a dive or seedy....
Does it really matter ?
I just read it as being somewhere nice, and not the upstairs behind a sex shop. |

"Another forum post turned into a slanging match over how someone has worded there forum thread for a social.
I wont lose any sleep over it as I have more important things to worry about as Im sure most other people do on here
Such a shame there are so many There We Are Then's on here ! "
Lol why don't you just say the word "TWAT".....so much easier really |

I dont think I actually said YOU had it in for Miss Maverick Peachy.I am not having a go at anyone personally.
I am commenting on what I see when Miss Maverick posts a thread and it is only my opinion.
It seems others do see things as I do though as I have been mailed privately by people who agree with me.
I do read the forums regularly and have seen you agree with Miss Maverick many times.
I would never just say the word TWAT. I am way to classy for that

I would like to think of myself as classy at times and can carry myself in a respectable and educated manner...Then I drink vodka, wear stupid 5 inch heels fall over and break my leg. Totally unclassy!! LOL. So the moral of the story is...be who you want to be, treat people how you would like to be treated stay off the heels and lay off the vodka! Haha xx |

Whilst we were living and working on one of the Greek islands for many years we worked with a lot of very wealthy people, One thing you learn very fast is you can not buy class, Most of these folk were lovely people but like every type there are the ones that are just plain rude slobs..don't think that answers anything but it's just our take on class. |

Now that is so true and quite a few English family's with new money think they are above.
"One thing you learn very fast is you can not buy class"
This year we had the pleasure of looking after a Russian family for two months, some very interesting conversation's about the way people act when out and about. comrade Connie lol |
