Most people send disappearing photos, they only last for a few seconds, whatever you set it up to. No one can take a screenshot, if they do, it will simply be blank. And you get notified.
However, if you share a photo or a video in a group or with someone, they could simply save it to see it later or forward it to someone else.
Pretty much like WhatsApp. |

VERY secure, avoid WhatsApp for secure messaging big time. |

Anyone good enough with a computer can crack WhatsApp, it really is not as safe as you think, Signal on the other hand is very secure.
Besides who owns Meta or at least the top share holder?
I do not trust that guy Zuckerberg.
I would also advise avoiding using Facebook too if you want privacy.

I found that with Telegram it notified me if my contacts created an account. This was once awkward when it was someone who chose a very sexy torso pic as their avatar and is in a relationship with someone I am related to. Just something to be mindful of.

It is if you use the privacy features well. I often get told when my phone contacts have joined. Think about your name you use there and the photos you display on your profile incase you don't get the privacy right from the start.
You can delete all messages so it's not an app you want your kids using but for us filthy lot it works well lol |

I've been using Telegram for nearly three years and have never been told that my phone contacts have joined, probably because I denied access to my phone contacts from the onset and refused the invitation to sync my contacts. |

Excuse my ignorance but why do you need a secure app? I used WhatsApp and have sent pictures etc. what could possibly happen to them? Some Chinese spy gets to see what I send, meta profile me and show me similar pictures on my Facebook timeline? I've got nothing of any importance that anyone would want. I don't share bank details etc. Everything I share is already out there in the ether if someone wants to look. Or are you all trading national security secrets on Telegram? |

There’s no time limit on deleting messages on telegram you delete messages from both peoples accounts not just your own. You dont get your new friends pop up as suggestions on facebook and snapchat |

I joined today and it instantly sent a message to anyone in my contact list who is on there to say I had joined despite me not allowing my contacts to be accessed. I then spent some time confused about whether my number can be seen because no matter how my setting are set up if that person has my number stored (was checking it with my husband) they can still see my phone number on telegram. So far I am not impressed |
