Let's settle this then, what do we class as the valleys ? Interested to the replies on this one.

Look at a road map, follow the Heads of the Valleys road (the A465), once you get past Abergavenny, heading west, you can see all the valleys.

The head of the valleys road just about sums it up.

You also have the Swansea, Neath & Afan but many don't class them as part of the main Valleys.

To the London/national media it’s anyone from anywhere in Wales.

When I was at uni in the north, a couple of lecturers described me as the “the boy from the valleys”. I’m from effing Fishguard!

Catherine Zeta-Jones is the “girl from the valleys” often etc.

It’s no big deal, but it does kind of underplay the variety of communities in Wales.

The Valleys is any old industrial valley in South Wales to me.

I agree that the HoV road is a good indicator.

I would not include the Swansea Valley, Gwendraeth and Amman Valleys, which is weird in a way. They feel a little too far west, but are undoubtedly industrial and part of the same history.

Maybe that’s because of the importance of the Welsh language in those areas. Mmm - food for thought.

Really depends if you're talking about "The Valleys" in general, or the South Wales Valleys...

East to West it's the Llwyd Valley (Blaenavon) to the Llynfi Valley (Maesteg). Of course if you count Port Talbot, Neath and Swansea as South Wales (rather than West), you could go as far west as the Gwendraeth Valley.

Starts at the HoV road and where it ends is open to interpretation. If you look one way and see a mountain, look the other way and see a mountain, you're stuck in the middle at the bottom - you're probably in a valley!

To say it's everywhere north of the M4 is a sweeping statement and the guy who said Lisvane is north of the M4, you may want to check your sat nav!

In a palm profile place the wrist at any provincial town, newport, risca, caerphilly , pontypridd, llantrisant, bridgend, swansea, neath the fingers point in all directions.

The cynon valley had multiple side valleys going off
