It can be hard work on the sea unless the water is completely flat, which is rare around here. Plus the currents in the Bristol Channel are wild, not to mention the dangers of an offshore breeze (rare thankfully).

Try starting out on a river or lake first until you're feeling a bit more confident, then have a crack at the sea.

Just my opinion.

Yes taking it in the sea as a novice is not ideal lol. I would deffo get some practice in before trying that out. As the saying goes don't try to run before you can walk lol

Llandegfydd reservoir near pontypool have to pay to self launch, etc. However if your a novice there's a centre you can hire from and get lessons etc. There's a club also that does regular social paddles and such. Be aware if using inland waterways some are subject to licence and you can be fined (unlikely I suspect).

Second this. I’ve been going Llanelli dock for a couple of years. Gets busy when it’s hot out but ideal for paddle boarding!

Is North Dock Llanelli open?

Last year it was shut due to algae in the water…it would be great if it’s able to be used again.
