Fed up and pissed off

Last week I finally received an appointment to see a consultant about my knee, it’s been 20 months since I first inquired about possible surgery.

Today a letter dropped on my doorstep saying that the upcoming appointment is now cancelled, talk about fuming, God knows when I’ll receive another appointment

If I want to go private I can get it done within the next six weeks, seeing the same consultant who would have done it on the NHS

Really pissed off now, and I’ll bet that there are many more people in the same boat as I, the NHS isn’t fit for purpose anymore

This is why the NHS is funked, they are required to hire out their staff and facilities to private patients (ive been told by a doctor friend they even have a quota to meet of hours hired out in some trusts) to make money because they are under funded. Its been being privatised on the sly for over a decade, that's why you're getting shit service.

Do you get great service from your private water company? or your private energy supplier? Or private rail firms?

If you want good service you have to kick out the private, profit driven element. (Ignoring the fact that the crap service provided privately is usually heavily subsidised by the government/taxpayer anyway!)

TFL is a good example of this, despite the financial trouble they had during covid.

Of course it's cancelled, they're probably making TickTock videos that day.

Most NHS staff are way too busy working, and not making Tiktok videos. It's not good to generalise

I have every sympathy for NHS frontline staff - but definitely NOT GPs - and place the blame squarely on government. I realise the NHS is devolved in Wales, but the rot really emanates from Westminster as the Tories have been ideologically opposed to the NHS (and public services generally), and have been dismantling it by stealth ever since coming into power. As another poster said, essential services need to be in public ownership, but the Tories are hoping to render the NHS so crippled it is beyond salvation. And just a little thought, how many hospitals could have been built or wages increased by the tens if not hundreds of billions Truss pissed away with her insane economic folly?!

And don't mention the millions that were going to go to the NHS instead of the EU every week following Brexit, according to Boris and his cronies at least....

The NHS is suffering because of Brexit. The supply of nurses and support staff who make up most of the workforce has dried up. Resulting in having to use expensive agency replacements.

Experienced staff are leaving the NHS. Our GP had enough earlier this year and left.

A family member got a masters medical degree last year and most of their fellow graduates weren't going into the NHS.

Something does need to change. Otherwise the baby boomers are going to be nail in the coffin when they start getting serious ill.

If your going to look at going private, it might be worth looking at going abroad for the surgery if you can. The cost is so much less & you get really good care.

It said so on a bus, so it must be true.

Yes I think you’re correct, Lithuania seems to be the best option, around 9k all in,as opposed to 15k just for the operation and NO backup physio

I went out to Turkey for surgery this year & saved myself £10,000 on my surgery

Nr Cardiff or at Chams Darlaston

I had an appointment booked for beginning of September about my knee. Got a letter the other day to say due to unforeseen circumstances that’s cancelled and now it’s mid October instead. Hope it doesn’t get changed again.
