Llandegfedd res in pontypool is a good place to go but you need SUP insurance and it’s also pay to go in.
Hands down best place we’ve been to is Spring Valley Lakes near Rheola/Neath. Crystal clear water not big enough to get tired and not be able to swim back safely. Lots of plant life around the edges so life jackets are mandatory. They are getting it off the ground now so rules/prices do change and it’s cash only but it’s a lovely place to paddle board and I’ve only just learned to stand up there there’s camping too and a booze bus for anyone wanting to make something of it.

"The sup hut in swansea do them I've bought a board but I haven't used it yet lol"
I’ve just done exactly the same, lliw reservoir near velindre offer lessons and you can self launch your own for a small fee, that’s what I’m thinking of doing soon |

Llanelli north dock is good. Warm and nice and shallow launch. Think lliw require you to show you can get on the board in deep water. May not be suitable if your new to it |

I’ve been to Jackson’s Bay in Barry (the next one round from the main Whitmore Bay) a few times with mine. It’s quite sheltered, very shallow and in summer there are plenty of other people in and around the water. Obviously use a bit of common sense, if it’s really windy going away from the beach and deserted, think twice. |

I think llanelli north dock is closed due to the algae…. Certainly no one swims in it atm |

Used my new board for the first time a couple of weeks ago, went to Bala lake, you have to pay to park and launch but it's a good spot. Managed to get to stand up for a bit before falling in again but need to persist with it, would like to find somewhere else to go near me. |

Op in all seriousness if some one is offering paid lessons please check their qualifications and their experience of the area they are instructing.. A friend who was one of the loveliest men you could ever meet, a really experienced Surfer and SUP paddler lost his life in a tragedy, witnesses said he was trying to use his lifesaving skills after the groups leader totally missed local conditions were at 'do not paddle' stage.... Have fun but above all else stay safe....
As for the lass who has no balance get with a good kayak/canoe/SUP coach and you will soon be wondering why you hadn't done it earlier..... Some great coaches down near you..look for WCA quals again have fun stay safe
Rubber, Latex and Watersports don't have to fab style interests |
