Looking to lost some timber 2-3 stone to get back to a weight I'm far more comfortable.

I know I need to increase my activity levels, but just wondering if there's any success stories out there if individuals who have managed to lose similar amounts of weight (fat) and kept it off through diet /lifestyle changes and/or any (legally available) diet supplements?

I know there's no magic formula, but just seeing what people have tried and tested in the past seeing positive results.

Tha is all in advance X

I've lost 6 stone this year, from 19 to 13. I stopped eating crap, I stopped eating late, I stopped eating for the sake of it, and I went on more walks. Nothing really that drastic.

That's a brilliant effort fair play.

I've struggled a lot with my weight my whole life and it took a lot of experimenting to get to where I'm a bit more comfortable in general. My main advice that I wish I knew earlier was consistency.

What you eat today might be bad, but you don't only live today. Think of your weight loss journey as lasting decades not weeks and if you mess up it's a hitch, and you're back on your diet and exercise the next day. Don't punish yourself, you want to build positive habits you can maintain throughout your life

Absolutely this. A maxim I found really helpful is 1% is better than 0%. It takes time to build habit, and the expectation of them sticking quickly and easily is what leads people to not stick with their plans. If I felt like shit and comfort ate one day, I'd make sure I'd be a bit more active to counter it.

Small victories leads to big victories.

I'm on a weight loss journey myself. I personally find drinking plenty of water really helps

Thank you I think I need to re-evaluate how much I want to lose... Yourself and previous fabsters who have kindly taken the time to offer advice all look in pretty good health and shape to me

Due to I thyroid problem, I struggled with weight loss. The only thing that worked for me was to cut carbs.

Not an easy thing to do but focused on the improvement in my energy levels and seeing the scales go down kept me motivated.

4 stone gone, shocked my gp by coming off so much medication and my energy levels are through the roof...

I have days where I pig out but 90% of the time I'm good.

and don't beat myself up if I slip up occasionally.

You just have to find a way of eating and exercise that suits you and you can sustain in the long run.

I (JT) dropped from 95kg down to 60 over about a year. Mainly from training bjj and intermittent fasting.

Keeping up with the fasting has been the main thing that's kept the weight off, I basically eat whatever I want in one main meal or one small one before work and a big one after.

Bjj in the morning and a bit of yoga help keep me actually healthy though because I was a bit scrawny after losing the weight.

Great effort, well done. What's BJJ if you excuse my ignorance?

Oops, it's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, similar-ish to judo but less hard on the body.

Apologies if been said already.

intake needs to reduce but take in more water.

exercise when you can, good walks when its dry or more physical activties

weight may come off quickly but then slow down so do not get disheartened

try and remove fast foods, chocolate, crisps and bread smaller portions maybe

a lot of people turn to soup in new year.

Diets don't work. Eat well, eat less and move about more.

I've lost 6 stone this year, 4 stone using Saxenda which helped me learn better ways of eating & moving on from habit eating. I then lost another 2 stone eating in moderation. I don't deny myself but I know everything has a calorie cost so I monitor. Its not been easy because I've got an under active thyroid, but I'm getting there slowly without thinking in in a diet, because as someone has already mentioned, diets don't work X

I joined a weight loss group and have lost over 3 stone last year, I’ve gone from a size 22 to a 14 and was a type 2 diabetic on insulin, I’ve now reversed this and am not taking anything for my diabetes now, I’ve also taken up kick-boxing, good luck in your weight loss journey to all who are starting or continuing

Mart has lost about 4 and a half stone in 13 months, got diagnosed with type2 diabetes Nov last year, so it was pretty simple, get slimmer or get ill.

Cut out white refined flour (white bread, pasta, etc) and other carbs (potatoes, rice etc), and slowly reduce your portion sizes, along with learning to read and understand food labels, cutting down on sugar.

Havent gone nuts about it, I still allow myself a takeaway or a roast dinner now and then, the idea is to change your whole eating lifestyle, short-term faddy diets NEVER work long-term.

"I had a pop or soda addiction "

This is my issue too, I go through bottles of Coke a week and never ever drink water. Probably lose a stone if I just swapped that!

"Diets don't work. Eat well, eat less and move about more. "

Well said

To diet you have to create a calorie deficit which most people who diet go too extreme too soon then the cravings start and if you’re not moving or training you want to eat shit.

Eat more protein, drink more water and become more active. Food is fuel use it wisely and make sure whatever you consume has calorific value. If you’re currently eating 5000 cals of crap you will store most of the shit from it. Eat 5000 cals of good food whilst you’re active and your body will make better use of it. Search protein supplements best in UK and shop around - always check sugar content!!

Short term goals long term plan. It’s not all about cardio, resistance training and lifting weights is good for you as well as hill walking.

Walk at least two miles a day, if you are desk bound then try to do three. Walking is the key to weight loss. The more you move, the more weight you will shift

I have fibromyalgia and cannot take any medication for it so I find losing weight with exercise a struggle. Count in having to eat gluten free it's very expensive. It's taken me 18 months to lose 2½ stone slowly, which my doctor and bank balance preferred.

I've found walking the newly adopted dog helps my pain levels and weightloss is starting to be a little quicker. Walking is low impact just in the cold and rain I wouldnt normally go out in it, with a dog you have no choice. They have to go out so you do too.

Eating smaller amounts of the full fat is better for my fibro as the artificial sweeteners in diet food flare my pain up worse.

HUGE respect for you lady

Working around a debilitating illness such as fibromyalgia cannot be easy but you have built a plan a strategy and way to deal with the psychology of pain. Short term goals with a long term plan. Honestly you should be very proud of yourself Well done x

Thank you

Sometimes I would love to be able to exercise more but if I push too much the pain and fatigue knocks me off my feet for days

Don’t do that just stick to your plan and over time it will work. Be happy that you are doing something better than nothing

I think we all need to try to develop a more healthy mind as well as body...

Diets don’t work because you can’t keep them up and look forward to ending them... trying t9 eat more healthily is much better if possible... cook for yourself and if possible and reduce processed meals/foods...

Our lives are generally too sedentary... sitting in work, sitting watching tv at night.... join more active social clubs, gardening, walking even litter picking.... anything to get away from boredom snacking... which was definitely my problem.

We all have our own ways... I am not saying this works for everyone, but if anyone can benefit from little snippets of advice in here good on you.... have a fab 2023 of you can.....
