I was having a conversation with someone about a small independent cinema not too far from me that is struggling to get people through the door.
My friend (not on here now but used to be) suggested organising a social where we all watch a film first and then head on over to a local pub for a drink and social meet.
I told her people wouldnt be interested so she said I post it here and ask
So
Is she on to something? Could that be something people might be interested in? |

Slightly off tangent but I'm sure plenty of punters would pay to what a more ' adult ' film a couple of times a week to get an income but obviously not sure in regards to licensing etc.. just a thought |

I had considered that but the lady who runs the cinema would never go for it.
She was once asked to host a naturist group once a month. They were going to pay really well but she refused saying that they may stain the material seats! |

I think so, I don't think you'll get many guys to show, for the mindset demonstrated on the thread already but any opportunity to get to know others in a safe place, sharing a common interest is a winner in my eyes X |

I think it could potentially be popular, depending on the film shown.
Obviously the “adult” film idea isn’t an option, but if it was something with broad appeal then I can’t see why people wouldn’t be interested in going if it was followed by a social nearby.
You could make it a fab film review club? |

Could be fun... I'm sure you could get enough people to make it viable if you picked a film with broad enough appeal. |

"It wouldn't be my thing to be honest. The last time I went to the cinema (several years ago) I fell asleep. I woke just as the film was ending "
What film was it? |

I like the idea of a film club. Plus there is a pub and travelodge nearby so potential afterwards for a social and play |

"Sounds good
Depends what the film is
Box of popcorn and bags the back seats lol"
The film would be dependant on what the cinema has booked. Tonight for example it is Fall
They only show one film a week |

I'll bring my white chocolate Magnum, my usual cinema treat "

I'd absolutely be interested in this. But would NOT be if it was for straight up "porn" lmao as mentioned earlier. But an adult comedy with some naughty humour, absolutely I'd be there.
*Zak and Miri make a porno* would be top pick. Hope this takes off. social in the pub after would be great with a direct topic to discuss, especially for noobs like me Is the venue in question the cinema in Swansea by any chance? |

No not the cinema in Swansea
The cinema has a set film every week which we could go and watch with the general public, but if I had enough interest I can do any film on dvd as a private viewing. I would NOT offer porn though. |

I'm happy to watch whatever film is on & then make a discussion of it after in the pub, its easier to socialise over an interest. Hence why the bowling social has always been so successful X |

*Blush*. Thanks Peachy. I've spoken to OP earlier ... Let's get this going. PS I'm not sharing my Magnum in a public cinema haha!

"A nice feel good film would be good or even a Christmas film (I know you would love ?? Rosie ).I'll bring chocolate lol x"
You've missed the point here too. We can't choose a film to watch ... We'll be watching whatever film is showing at the time. We're not having exclusive use of a cinema just for a fab social! |

This is correct. Initially it would be watching whatever film the cinema has on at the time.
If, and only if, it became a big enough event I would then be able to potentially get the cinema purely for our use and would be able to put a dvd of our choice on (but NEVER an 'adult' film). But that wont be happening anytime soon. It would have to have a large enough following to cover the cost of hiring it out

I think I might try and get this up and running slowly. Possibly post a date and what film is showing and see interest.
I dont want to book a pub for a social incase numbers are low, but there are places to hust pop in for a drink a catch up after the film without having to book a room.
There is also a travelodge if anyobe fancies a stay over
Once I have enough interest and people I can expand this |
