Had a day of watching films today.
Burlesque was the last one.
Enjoyed but can't help feeling having female company would have made it better.
I want to watch more musicals.
What are you're favs? and fancy someone to watch them with?

This is a great post - i love the forums for sharing much more varied interests x
In my early childhood during the late ‘60’s & ‘70’s, i absolutely adored watching all the old classic musicals on TV with my mam. Saw The King & I in the cinema as a late night carnival special showing - really increased the buzz (still a child then) Later tho, my sister got hooked on The Wizard of Oz & 7 Brides For 7 Brothers & went on overkill watching them daily, as video players got invented, so i went off the constant breaking into song for no reason vibe. Like u, i never really got into Rocky Horror either, apart from i’d always found Tim Curry & Richard O’Brien to b very hot. Absolute Beginners was a flop in the ‘80’s. Later i got into musicals again when my son was little, esp Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (Johnny Depp), as he watched it repeatedly every day. Nowadays, i could watch The Red Shoes, Les Miserables & Miss Saigon forever. An American In Paris is utterly delightful - check the Live streams (or recorded) via the Vue etc cinemas from the National Theatre etc - much variety & can get really transported via the big screen & esp the angles & close ups filmed, even more so than via live stage shows. Matilda & Everyone’s Talking About Jamie r great too. Cabaret’s my all time fave - would love to check that out live, tho the original will always b more special in my heart x |

Of course I've seen Kinky boots lol but not the others here.
I use to watch The king and I with my nan and cousin when I was younger. I remember enjoying them aswell as Annie.
So far a few have been mentioned I feel I should have seen by now. |

It all depends on whatever u r in the mood for - do u like the romance of them, the lyrics, the score, the choreography, the script, escapism, or just the energy of ‘any excuse for a song & dance’ ? I love all of it, esp the awesomeness in Miss Saigon - how they time their breathwork with singing etc - incredble |

Music is emotion in words and tune. So the story/message in the lyrics can get me. Escapism too. I'm a dreamer so enjoy all of that. Problem with being a dreamer is you spend your life asleep lol |

I’ve been involved in many musicals over the years.
For me, West Side Story is way ahead, thanks to the artistry of Bernstein and Sondheim. The former’s musical score is incredible.
Fiddler on the Roof is also wonderful, with some beautiful music (particularly The Sabbath Prayer).
I’ve grown to appreciate the classic songwriting of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin etc over the years.
I’m not really a fan of more recent ones, though I enjoyed Les Mis way more than I expected.

Fiddler on the roof is a favourite of mine. Recently watched the modern West side story.. preferred the original. Same with Footloose. Les mis was good. Greatest showman too |

Paused after typing that but keeping it the way it is lol.
If it's not on Youtube or Netflix I don't have easy access.
I shall keep that one in mind though thanks |

"Still Crazy. It’s a British comedy about an aging rock band going back on tour. It’s got Billy Connolly, Bill Nighy and Timothy Spall in it. It’s pretty funny and has some good tunes. "
Never even heard of this one. Sounds good |

For me, my favs are Joseph and the amazing technicolour dreamcoat, Blood Brothers, phantom, Jeff Waynes War of the worlds (stage version with Richard Burton narrating) and for the sheer campiness Rocky Horror. |
