IMPORTANT THREAD, PLEASE RETWEET: We have been informed that there is a protest being planned in Newport tomorrow by transphobic activists. We urge trans people in Newport to steer clear from Newport Police Station tomorrow.
Although some have wondered whether a counter-protest would be appropriate, we are vehemently against this. Firstly, if only a few people showed up, it would be incredibly dangerous.
Some of the transphobic activists involved are world-known as fascist collaborators and any trans person caught on camera there would be at serious risk of doxxing and harassment.
Secondly, we feel that it would be highly inappropriate to counter a protest against police brutality, especially in Newport, where cops murdered Mouayed Bashir less than a year ago. Cops are not friends of oppressed communities and they do not deserve our support. |

"What??? I can’t even believe what I’ve just read. This world makes me so fucking sad "
Unfortunately we are living in very uncomfortable times. There has been a lot more polarisation in views, perspectives and personal 'beliefs' triggered by misinformation, radicalisation, social media and of course Covid (which because of lockdown/social isolation etc had allowed a lot of
unchecked fermentation of unhealthy views).
I could write a five thousand word article about it all but this is Fab so I'll spare everyone.
Just keep safe, avoid conflict over these types of events and don't change yourself for anyone if you are someone who identifies as being protested against in this way . |

I feel for all the progress we as a society have made, it hasn't gotten us very far.
We may as well be back in the 20th century, when Homosexuality was illegal for all the hatred and bigotry.
However, we are going in the right direction for changing the next generations outlook to positive respect kindness and human dignity. Wish we can fast forward a few decades that's all. |

Because their life could be at risk. It's not just "a bunch of Muppets" it's people who hate trans people. Who could hurt them. Toxic positivity isn't helpful in these situations. |

"The same old saddos who always need someone to blame for their pathetic lives. Same old same old, always choosing minority groups for popular support. Absolute scum! "
The problem is that it isn't the same old saddos. The 'gender critical' lobby tend to be people who would previously have been classified as liberal. Quite a few are radical feminists. Their argument is that biological sex cannot be changed and only those born with female genitals can be women. The whole thing is a sad mess and has caused me to question a number of friendships. |

Utterly disingenuous. Other than the info Sarah linked, some of the stickers were anti-trans in nature. Whatever your views on trans people, gender identity is protected under the equality act and the police are duty bound to investigate.
What irks me most is the fact that transwomen and AFAB women share the same risk that the lady was largely trying to highlight - male violence. Given the appalling levels of violence against women, and the shameful lack of just outcomes in the criminal justice system as a result, the focus should not be on transwomen.
I actually hare some of your concerns about safe spaces for women, and there is clearly much work to be done to reconcile the co-existence of AFAB women and trans women in areas such as sport, but the solution is not going to be reached by lumping all transwomen together as thre4ats when the converse is far more likely to be the case.
The answer to tackling oppression is never more oppression. |

There was absolutely no evidence of any sharp objects being found. This is an urban myth.
You suggest that a group of mostly middle women, mothers and grand mothers are going around actually attempting to cause physical harm is fucking nonsense. |

What did they say that was anti trans?
I accept that trans people face discrimination and deserve to the same rights and safety as every other member of society. The issue here is an inability to accept that some of your requests for rights infringe on mine.

"Secondly, we feel that it would be highly inappropriate to counter a protest against police brutality, especially in Newport, where cops murdered Mouayed Bashir less than a year ago. Cops are not friends of oppressed communities and they do not deserve our support. "
People have got every right to protest against Police brutality and in fact I'd go further and say communities have a duty to act against it rather than silently stand by.
But why do you think police officers murdered Mouayed Bashir? What do you base that on? (I'm not saying they didn't as I don't know what happened). Where are you getting your info from?
When you say cops are not friends of oppressed communities, do you not think that is a little bit of a sweeping comment?
What about all the gay cops? What about cops from other minority communities? What about cops who have been victims of domestic violence? What about cops who don't fit your stereotype and are actually good people doing a good job? Are they not supporters of the oppressed communities?
For sure, there are bad cops too, but not all of them??
I'm not trying to pick a fight, it's just that I think the latter part of your post detracted from the message you seemed to be trying to give at the start of it.

Hormones are not routinely prescribed to women. Anti depressants are routinely prescribed because for years GPs and the NHS have given close to zero fucks for the suffering of women because of the complexity of their reproductive organs, from the onset of menstruation to menopause.
And incase you hadn't noticed, the NHS is on its fucking knees. I, for one, am dreading the fall out from this in years to come when we see the full impact of puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and invasive non essential surgeries where perfectly healthy tissue and organs are removed.

What is repellent about raising concerns over a different section of society identifying into my sex class?
Don't give me the gay men/women or racism argument.
Gay men weren't asking for society to see them as straight men.
Lesbian weren't asking to be seen as straight women.
Black, Asian and other minority groups were not asking to be seen as white.

Hormone replacement therapy *is* routinely prescribed to women during their menopause. It's something that the GP handles, they don't need to send you off to a centralised clinic. The problem is not just that the NHS is on its knees, it's that unnecessary gatekeeping is set in place.
And you, for one, are not trans, you don't get to have a say over our bodies, the same way I don't have a say over yours.
Funny to see how you don't even contest the other points of things you want to deny us. You are deeply transphobic, and your attempts at whitewashing it are laughable. |

Trans women are not asking to be seen as cis women. We are asking to be seen as women. The same as lesbians and black women were a few years ago asking to be seen as women. Or don't you remember the outcries with having lesbians using women's changing rooms? Or having black women use non-segregated toilets? Because I do. You are just another version of this. |

Not touchy, just tired of this pish.
I imagine fascists are as concerned about the pennies in their purse as much as the rest of us.
I'd be asking myself why a mostly placid, non visible previously ignored section of society (middle aged women) are suddenly up in arms and out protesting in the streets and writing to their MPs ?
Could it possibly be the case that their concerns are well founded?
Nah....you're probably right mate. Agnes with the blue rinse is just a fucking fascist.

0) she is not a man
1) children are far more open to these things than their parents
2) if they ask, you just tell them that lady is probably trans, use it as an educational opportunity (children who e.g. haven't seen a black lady before might ask the same questions)
3) I am 100% certain that no trans person ever would be comfortable exposing their bits in a changing room, if anything they will be much more frightened of everyone else than what you are of them, we are like spiders |

I don't think waiting 5 years is a bad thing overall, I mean what if you change your mind? It's a decent buffer, once your penis is cut off there's not much hope of putting it back on. |

Please STFU you have no idea what you are talking about. For starters the 5 yers waiting time is for a first appointment, not even hormones. Secondly, we own our own bodies, I don't see you asking for a 5 years consideration period for parents to be, that's also irreversible. But little surprise that a transphobe is also against bodily autonomy. |

"No one is suggesting they aren't allowed to live.
I'm pretty sure the trans people were safe in Newport on this day. The rally was mostly attended by middle aged women & grandmothers with Lidl shopping bags.
Hardly Tommy fucking Robinson and the EDL.
Are you saying no middle aged women or people who shop in Lidl have ever supported fascist organisations? Seems strange to say that people of a certain sex, age and supermarket preference are incapable of holding repellent views.
You are just another version of this."
I don't understand this bit. When were lesbians not seen as women or welcomed into female toilets. And the bit about black women not being able to use white women's toilets, when did that happen in Scotland? I don't remember any special treatment for black people any where in Scotland. |

How do parents explain to their frightened children why there's a man with boobs in the ladies changing room using the shower?
0) she is not a man
1) children are far more open to these things than their parents
2) if they ask, you just tell them that lady is probably trans, use it as an educational opportunity (children who e.g. haven't seen a black lady before might ask the same questions)
3) I am 100% certain that no trans person ever would be comfortable exposing their bits in a changing room, if anything they will be much more frightened of everyone else than what you are of them, we are like spiders"
So how do they shower then?
I've had trans friends, gay friends, bi friends. I work daily with gay and bi people, I've never been afraid to use the same toilets as them.
I think some trans woman look amazing from the waist up and there's even a few on here that look so good I don't believe it's actually a trans woman, I think it's a real woman pretending to be trans. |

In individual cublicles. Because we are often so afraid of being attacked we often also don't use gendered spaces at all, and this for some people includes not even using the toilets unless there is an accessible toilet. This in turn reaults in health problems, becauae sometimes they go hours without peeing. This is a direct conaequence of transphobia. |

I see thanks. I work in a niche area of health and think this is highly likely to be due to lack of specialists rather than intended discrimination, we see it every day.
The prescription of hormone therapy during menopause is much simpler with NICE guidance for gps to follow. One day, there will be a clear pathway for other treatments but I think a lot of us are relatively naive in this area.
As for the other comments, absolutely vile and please ignore them. They have no place anywhere but particularly here where openness is pretty much a prerequisite of the site! |

This. My child is coming up for 14, bi and non-binary. Their generation is figuring out what works for them, and what matters. What matters most seems to be living their lives without fear, and I'm on board with all that. I feel happy and proud that they can be open. |

The waiting times at GICs is indeed because of the lack of specialists, but that's why I think it's so important to take this back to the GPs. The guidance for GPs is there, but most of them don't want to have anything to do with it. If you think about it, it's something that affects 1% of the general population, it's not that rare compared to other conditions. I wish GPs would be willing to learn, right now you say you are trans and they don't want anything to do with it, they won't even do shared care here in the Glasgow region. |

As a straight man, you shouldn't be in gay bars if you're gonna feel "threatened" by being there.
You're in OUR space, one of very few we get. Stay out if you can't handle being hit on in a gay bar.
The entitlement of cishets will never stop. "
I'm struggling to follow this. I was talking in past tense, I don't feel threatened any more.
I hope your not suggesting if I'm drinking in the merchant city with my gay pals that I need to stand outside while they all have a great time inside?

"What I want to know is why the admins who are quick to remove "call out" comments, are allowing transphobia in the forums?
It's disgusting. "
Where's the transphobia? |

The OP has asked very nicely that the argument not be continued on their thread. Please stop being a tube. (Actual Glaswegian slang)

"Oh wow, Can you all please stop. I have no idea where all this hate has come from. I don't need anyone telling me what to do. Please stop posting hate here."
What hate? No one hates you Sarah, no one. |

"Admin really need to step in now and end this thread . Hatred will not be tolerated to anyone . "
What hatred? I don't see any hatred. Is there posts that I can't see? |

"Where's the transphobia?
Y'know there might just be some in continuing an argument after a trans person has asked you to stop. You're enjoying causing distress.
"
Asked to stop what? I'm only replying to the thread. |

"children are far more open to these things than their parents
This. My child is coming up for 14, bi and non-binary. Their generation is figuring out what works for them, and what matters. What matters most seems to be living their lives without fear, and I'm on board with all that. I feel happy and proud that they can be open."
That's great news, there's nothing better than being proud of your kids. |

Keep going. I've got a longish drive, and I hope to see this thread stuffed full of rainbows when I get to the other end. |

"The so-called gender criticals seem very happy to accept support from the far right, which is worrying."
Is not the far right and the far left in fact one and the same beast? |
