I don't get it when someone sends you a wink or friends request. You respond to said wink/FR. Only to no response. Why?

We never respond to winks or friend requests. If the person(s) was genuine they would send a message.

I always thought the "wink" was to show interest ahead of messaging ? Saves being bombarded with messages etc
