Coronavirus: Police ordered not to check every car after 'overreach' claims
(Search using the text here to find on Google)
While in another story Magistrates give a woman a £660 for not engaging with Police about why she was out.
Such consistancy! |

She refused to say who she was and whet her journey was for and was probably belligerent as well |

Why wouldn't she cooperate? If I have to go out the police can pull me over all day long, I'd be out for a valid reason, food or medication. I don't want to go out. |

"It was 8am on Saturday morning. I presume they had good cause to think she'd been out all night. That might explain her silly reaction too."
She was very silly not to cooperate. If she was out for a valid reason, she shouldn't have a problem.

I was stopped 1hr ago. And was told that I could have been given a fine because they didn't think I was out buying important shopping. As meat from the butcher wasn't important shopping.?? And I tried to explain that it was meat for 3 households and I also had spuds carrots and other snacks from the shop next door. I can't win brother doctor sent him a letter not to leave the house. And he was the one doing the shopping for his mother in-law. So am now shopping for 3 houses. But the young police officer just went on and on I should have stayed home. |

Well done you for looking after others. Some of the police, I would imagine, are a bit over the top. |

Such consistancy!" she, was, given 4 opportunities to explain her actions. The police, ar3znot being heavy handed. If you are, going to be a complete fool what more can you expect. Magistrates, gave her this fine for breaking the law. So for all the smart arses who think they know better think again. Personally I think £660 was light in the current circumstances. |

I dont understand people who dont co-operate with Police.
I have no problem being stopped, if I am out I would have a valid reason, and explain it. If they didn't believe me that's up to them. I dont believe they are issuing fines or locking people up who are clearly out with a reason. |

Police here seem to be doing plenty of advisory stops currently but won't be long before penalties are used.
Hopefully it will stop many of those still intent on travelling from all over the country to come for their holidays |

This is all new territory and everyone is confused even the cops...government guidelines are are a bit confusing and no legally enforceable as they are just guidelines...the new health act of 2020 is the law that police have to enforce..that lists all legitimate reasons for being out...and some cops are interpreting that wrongly. |

This legislation has been rushed in, and unlike a lot of well established legislation I imagine that the police officers have not been given the opportunity to have comprehensive instruction in it. Also, as brand new legislation there will be “teething problems “ with its application (as there is with all new legislation - one of the biggest pieces of legislation that the police in the UK operate under is the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. That came into being in 1984, yet there are still mistakes made, misinterpretations etc, and amendments made to it because of stated cases in court.
No doubt, as in any walk of life of profession , some officers may be a tad “gung ho” in their application.
Maybe it’s that they haven’t really received training in the legislation (likely with how quickly I has come into operation), maybe they’re on a power trip, or maybe if they are a bit dogged in their approach to you it’s because unfortunately you’re the 100th person they’ve had to speak to about the same thing that day , and a large number of the people they spoke to have been boorish , over entitled idiots who have reeled out the classic “why aren’t you out catching real criminals” rhetoric, and as human beings , who probably have loved ones of their own that they are worried about, as people who are putting their own welfare and health at risk to try to protect and help others, they’re reaching the end of their tether and so they slip slightly.
I think that’s one thing we keep forgetting - the police, like our other amazing emergency services , put themselves in harms way, both physically and mentally , to try to help and protect others. And they don’t actually get a lot of money for it.
I’m not saying the person who was stopped was boorish or obstructive - but perhaps , just as we are expecting understanding and compassion from the police , we should all take a second to understand and be compassionate to them as well ? At the very least, we’d be able to look in the mirror and know we had been decent human beings , even if the courtesy isn’t returned. |

What's the problem? He was wrong and probably confused. He didn't arrest you and no fine would have been enforced.
So no real harm done. |

I agree, only a question of time. Top lawyers and NPCC expressing concerns about Police behaviour. Lancs Police have handed out more fines than any other force but I fear they will pay the price for the heavy handed approach, I can already hear the adverts from legal firms "received a fine during lockdown, we can help you claim compensation...." |

The police are as shit scared of catching this as the rest of us..
Like many key workers, they are having to get involved with the general public..
Unlike key workers, they are dealing with the dregs of society (as they did before) and now have to do the same job not knowing if the person they may have to struggle with; the person that may spit at them (as many do) and now cough at them, may have Covid 19 and could infect them.
So if you think the police are being heavy handed, maybe consider what they have to do and think if you had to do the same, dealing with fuck wits, cockwombles and crack heads, if you wouldn't get a little narked at those unwilling to comply.
We are not being asked to do much, just stay in doors and away from others.. it's that simple.. |

I do not wish to see Britain made into a police state. We should be very careful to guard our rights. Will need
our freedom and democracy long after this poxy little virus has gone on it's way way...
Many seem far to willing to give up their rights. Authority will be very reluctant to hand these freedoms back.
Don't listen to me....Listen to Lord Sumption.
All in favour of them advising and persuading..... |

Both Tracey and I are key workers so still going out every day to do our bit, neither of us have been pulled over yet as we are on the boarder of Lancs who have been like little Hitlers and GMP who havent handed out a single fine yet.
If we do get pulled and we think the Police have overstepped the mark we will take them to task, through the courts if necessary |

The heavy handed action of some Police have brought it on themselves. Advice and persuasion is what is needed, not fines. Not doubt some sort of target has been set for them. Will also be seen as a source revenue. |

Honestly.. why would you think this?
What is it with some people that feel the police have it in for them personally and therefore hate the police.
They are doing a shitty job for not a great wage.. why?
Because they believe they can make difference for those that want to feel safe in their homes, want to be able to walk in the street without fear of being attacked or robbed...
The police have enough to deal with without the money grabbers looking for the next quick way to rob the tax payer.. |

If people would stop flouting the rules the police wouldn't be so heavy handed, remember they are also worried about the virus, they have families and friends they want to look out for.
I'm disgusted by the families and groups of people still meeting up in large groups to pray, they are forcing their children to do it and people are dying, including children now. There are even people having group BBQ's in parks etc! Those are the people that need fining and punishing. |

"I agree, only a question of time. Top lawyers and NPCC expressing concerns about Police behaviour. Lancs Police have handed out more fines than any other force but I fear they will pay the price for the heavy handed approach, I can already hear the adverts from legal firms "received a fine during lockdown, we can help you claim compensation...."
Not generally a great fan of the compensation culture but on this issue I hope as many as possible take Police to Court and win.
Honestly.. why would you think this?
What is it with some people that feel the police have it in for them personally and therefore hate the police.
They are doing a shitty job for not a great wage.. why?
Because they believe they can make difference for those that want to feel safe in their homes, want to be able to walk in the street without fear of being attacked or robbed...
The police have enough to deal with without the money grabbers looking for the next quick way to rob the tax payer.. "
Police also need to be accountable for overstepping the mark, its their errors in judgement that cost the taxpayer, not the person claiming compo for wrongdoing by our boys in blue |

Both Tracey and I are key workers so still going out every day to do our bit, neither of us have been pulled over yet as we are on the boarder of Lancs who have been like little Hitlers and GMP who havent handed out a single fine yet.
If we do get pulled and we think the Police have overstepped the mark we will take them to task, through the courts if necessary
If you are only going out to your work then why wouldn't you just tell them this if you get stopped and let them let you go on your way
In Britain we do not have to explain ourselves. Awkward for some I know but that is the price of having a free and democratic country.
Police dont seem to understand the difference between government advice and law, even the newly passed ones. "
Unfortunately and more worrying is that some of the public don’t understand by not taking advice more people will die ... simple as that |

"I do not wish to see Britain made into a police state. We should be very careful to guard our rights. Will need
our freedom and democracy long after this poxy little virus has gone on it's way way...
Many seem far to willing to give up their rights. Authority will be very reluctant to hand these freedoms back.

All in favour of them advising and persuading.....It's a bit late parliament passed a 360 page bill to control us in the lockdown, but it has a 2 year life on it why. We are sleep walking into a police state and everyone is just looking at the virus news. "
There is more chance of me winning the lottery on Friday and Saturday and being named Pope on Sunday
99.999999 recurring of police officers do not want to work in such an apparatus.
Many times in recent years when the subject of police officers being routinely armed with firearms the rank and file have made it clear they would oppose it.
It is only recently that the issuing of Tasers to officers has been increased - initially the only officers authorised to carry Tasers were authorised firearms officers - and they would have to have the authority of a senior officer to arm/use them. This all in an environment where the user of firearms on the streets by criminals/gangs etc has increased exponentially.
They regularly have to face people armed with knives/firearms/ possible suicide vests equipped with nothing but a baton and a tin of pepper spray - and then are under immense scrutiny about any actions they take in those situations.
Bottom line - if you aren’t an arsehole then you generally don’t have anything to worry about with our police officers.
And for those people who would welcome a trend of law suits raised against police officers for trying to enforce legislation that has been brought in to try to safeguard people - I bet you’d not hesitate to go bleating to the police if you got burgled/assaulted/robbed.
They’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Amazing that swingers, who would kick up Merry hell if they were judged for their lifestyle choices , are so hypocritical as to be quick to judge others.
What’s the old adage - before you judge someone - try walking a mile in their shoes? How many would have the balls and selflessness to fulfil that role ? I’d hazard a guess that it would be very few! Personally I’m glad to have the police service we do. It’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination - but it’s a LOT better than many others around the world. |

Actually there was already legislation in place which means that there can be a requirement to do just that, and failing to do so is a criminal offence. |

Without the drastic measures how many of those children and grandchildren would survive to see their legacy?
Would you prefer we were all allowed to do whatever we wanted? Remember, the government tried that and it failed because the public can't be trusted to do what's needed. |

I can give you a number of stories were the police have taken a liberty. Inviting fans for a chat at the station then charging them without a solicitor present
The problem is the guidance and the law esp in this case don’t marry up and the problem is that police have been using guidance rather than law
If it doubt say you will only go if you can get your solicitor to go with you and ask for the officers number and name.
Respect the police but they should not overstep powers

The old and those with certain health conditions are the more vulnerable. Yes, young people have died but very few. Much more important to make sure the vulnerable are protected.

Resources to fight this virus are woefully inadequate.
So, the police would be better deployed transporting personal protection equipment to front-line NHS workers.
Of course, at this particular time, we expected them to break up large gatherings or parties, but to have them stopping individuals who are socially isolated in a car, is quite absurd.
It is a waste of time and energy.

Right in one....!! It would appear some forces are looking and thinking before they jump in with their large boots... They do well to remember they are our servants and only police with our consent. "
I think to refer to them as “servants” is derogatory and outdated. Do you hold the same opinion of people in the “service” industry? How is “downstairs “ in your household - one presumes that they know their place, deferring to you in all matters and doff their cap to their “master” whenever you deign them worthy of your presence ?
And the consent you mention is enshrined in legislation - that same legislation (in this case due to EXTRAORDINARY circumstances has been cobbled together and released in a very short time) that they are trying to uphold. And that legislation in which the consent is enshrined is set out by politicians who the voters, including police officers who have seen their numbers cut massively due to budgetary constraints, and who are still doing their best to provide the same performance whilst understaffed , with one hand tied behind their back by the same politicians who bring in the legislation , and with constant criticism and very rare appreciation or praise.
Think you could do better - step out of your Manor House and go and do it. But before you retort - when was the last time a 28 year old office worker who had only been married two weeks run over, dragged along the road by the vehicle , and died ?
Apart from the risk of physical harm there is a massive percentage of people who work for the emergency services who suffer terribly from mental health issues. They have a higher than national average when it comes to relationship breakdowns, often miss out on time with their families , have holiday cancelled at short notice - it’s a long list.
And they don’t want their arses kissed for doing it - but maybe once in a while it would be nice if people refrained from criticising. But then I guess it’s like Football - there are millions of armchair “managers “ who are legends in their own imaginations and believe they’d do a better job.
Your fixation on a police state suggests that you should buy a cape and a guy fawkes mask a la V for Vengance and start your campaign to free the country from oppression.
Oh - by the way - if you were a victim of crime , would you call the police ? And if someone close to you died from contracting Covid-19, will you then be on your soapbox criticising the police for not taking a firmer stance to prevent people from moving around? |

A solicitor does not HAVE to be present. An arrested person has a right to legal advice IF THEY WANT IT”. If they opt not to have a solicitor present , or to talk to one on the phone, then that is their legal right. Their decision would be recorded.
If a persons rights are not observed , then not only would they walk free, they’d have grounds to sue the police , and the police would get in a lot of trouble.
But hey - let’s not let the facts get in the way of a statement with no substance |

This just shows how you are speaking from a position of ignorance. There are not “targets” set for levying fines. And any fines that ARE assessed (I.e. speeding) go to the centre (government) , not the force issuing the fine.
And as for one of your previous posts about this “poxy little virus” - perhaps do a tally up of how many lives it has taken/contributed to the taking of - little ? This has the potential to mirror/supersede the Spanish Flu pandemic of the early 20th century.
And one thing to consider re Human rights etc - they only apply to the living ! At the moment , nobody really knows if this thing will go away, and what the actual potential for the loss of human life is. Perhaps prioritise worrying about people actually being alive - then worry about rights and freedoms ? |

"Coronavirus: Police ordered not to check every car after 'overreach' claims
(Search using the text here to find on Google)
While in another story Magistrates give a woman a £660 for not engaging with Police about why she was out.
Such consistancy!she, was, given 4 opportunities to explain her actions. The police, ar3znot being heavy handed. If you are, going to be a complete fool what more can you expect. Magistrates, gave her this fine for breaking the law. So for all the smart arses who think they know better think again. Personally I think £660 was light in the current circumstances.
Especially as she was stopped in a Newcastle railway station when she lives in York! "
Nor could British Transport Police find any tickets on her! She'd been loitering around the station, not on any specific platform, and despite repeated requests, refused to comply and say why she was on railway premises.
The action taken was actually within BTP permits which they deal with normally across the UK and for which BTP would deal with as usual.
It was only because of heightened publicity due to lockdown measures that this particular incident became known in national media. |

"This is a medical problem, we need scientists and medical personnel: not panicking politicians and inept heavy handed police men....
Bloody hell, is this some kind of April Fools joke? If not, I'm concerned about your understanding of the situation. It's people like you that are causing the issues by thinking they are above the rules and that they shouldn't have to follow them. Shame on you."

I would like to know
If I drive 1.5 hrs to a place I know there will be zero humans
How am I endangering anyone?
As it happens I'm frightened and very law abiding and thus would not
I'd still like to know for what exact purpose I'm being punished
I was under the impression we want to prevent deaths and help the NHS
Not punish ?
Just a side note
Staying at home
Every bank holiday hospital a and e units have an increase in particular DIY injuries
People at home do not practice adequate health and safety
I say this a because some argue stay home to stay safe that's a poor argument
Sadly yesterday I had a slight DIY mishap dont worry I'm safe however
I'm home totally alone IF anything did happen I will most likely bleed to death and die alone
So I still cannot see a moral justification why I cant go to a beach in a high wind and surf ? (Seriously no one else would be damn fool enough they like sun ) |

Or, just follow the fecking rules, why is it so hard? People were begging for a lockdown and now that it's here they are bitching about it.
The logic behind it is that it's non essential travel, increasing the risk of you having an accident and needing an ambulance/multiple emergency services/doctors/nurses etc that are already needed for the virus.
Why do you need to go for a walk 1.5 hours away? Why do you need to go surfing? Go for a walk near your house. It's not vital that you go so far away or use surfing as your exercise.
Do what the experts are saying is best for the country and stop whining about it! |

we should count ourselves like that the police do not point guns at you when you do not do as they ask.
when you are looking down a barrel of a gun you shit yourself. I don't care who you are.
the police don't like the situation anymore than you do, but if you are cocky, rude or just being plain difficult when asked a question you get what you deserve.
and hopefully bang your head on the cell floor to knock some sense into you.

"I was stopped 1hr ago. But the young police officer just went on and on I should have stayed home. that is within the reasons given to be allowed out. He was being a jobs worth."
But that's my point I have no choice but to go out . like today I made a large cottage pie and cut it into 3 one for myself one for brother and someone else. Then I had to pick up needles for brother and his sensor bits. Aswell as trying to figure out how to buy shopping for 3 households as people think that am panic buying. I need 3 tins of soup or I buy the largest pack of eggs and put them into 3 box's and past them around. It's a pain but I am a trained care worker and chef. |

Stacy, you are doing nothing wrong. You are out under 3 of the allowed reasons:
1) To shop for food
2) To deal with medical matters (the sensors/needles)
3) To provide care for the vulnerable
I cannot see how you are breaching any rules or regulations, so long as you keep the social distancing. |

I think they should be checking everybody
Sorry but there is clearly an ever increasing amount of people now out and about . In cars too.
Traffics increased this few days.
Such consistancy!"

As kinky said, you are doing nothing wrong, well done you for looking after people you care for. I am in the same position, if I don't do it, no one else will
