Yes they should have locked it down. Too many didn’t pay any attention to the guidance and they are seeing the results of that now. I’m hopeful that the tide will turn over the couple of weeks. It’s tragic either way.

Well the map shows the trouble and we here in Cornwall only have affected people. From out of county. The few locals all crossed paths with those out of country ones. If they had stopped all travel from airports immediately the rest of the country would be safe.

I don't know about emanating from London but it is perfectly natural for densely populated areas to have the highest infection rate.

Major cities are obviously going to suffer more than more rural areas. The virus is obviously going to spread everywhere eventually though.

I really think the Mayor does need to increase trains so as to dilute the number of people on each. But he said they're short of drivers because they're off.

[And coming later, Tony Bliar weighs in as expected; CEOs stepping down over the world just before this kicked off; Event 201, the globalist-run simulation in late 2019 of a Corona virus pandemic ; and elderly hospital patients being labeled "Do Not Resuscitate" as they're cut off from their families for the last time. Stay tuned]

It's not possible to close every entry point into the capital for many practical reasons.

There is no evidence that the infection is spreading from an epicentre and it's to be expected that the most populated area (by number and density) would have the most cases.

I think you'll find that it was Cornish school children returning from Italy that brought the first Corona scare to Cornwall... You think no Cornish person has left the county and returned during the outbreak? I was talking to a Cornish man in Indonesia in mid January, maybe it was him that brought it back... Are you blaming it it on Chinese 'city folk' or British 'city folk'?

The government left the lockdown 2-3 weeks too long, now we're going to have similar figures to Italy and Spain are now in a few weeks...

Well Italy was 2-3 weeks ahead of us with it's initial Corona case discovery and infection rate, our the government delayed the lockdown until 2-3 weeks after Italy did, so effectively at the same point.

If we look at the official infection stats ours has followed Italy's very closely showing similar infection rates and deaths... The curve when plotted onto a graph is scarily similar... Given that the majority who become ill over the next few weeks will currently be incubating the virus and already be infected and isolating, the numbers will continue to rise until the length of the lockdown exceeds the length of the incubation period of the virus, the rate of new infections should start to drop steeply in 2-3 weeks after the majority of people have isolated. We then have to continue isolating until it has cleared up amongst all the essential workers who are out there keeping the rest of us going... The people keeping the lights on for us, the heating and water, the food to our tables, the amazon packages to our doorsteps and last but not least the emergency services who are putting themselves directly in the firing line...

As for the 2-3 week delay in getting these workers PPE and sufficient tests... another massive failure by the government who wanted to try the herd immunity method...

We're slightly, very slightly lower than Italy, our cases are doubling every 3 days, like Italy. Our slightly lower rate could create quite a difference due to the way the virus spreads exponentially, You do have to take into consideration the fact our testing rates are poor and that there are probably more undiagnosed cases than diagnosed cases already.

Hearsay from a nurse friend who was in critical care on Sunday was 6 deaths, 3 were officially classed as Corona, no swabs or tests done on the other 3...

Via any and every airport. The problem is not with any one means of entry to the country but with the whole concept of casual travel around the globe for non-essential purposes. I suggest that when this is over long distance travel should be restricted to business purposes only, with mandatory 14 day quarantine included in every trans-continental journey.

I think post this the casual hop on a low cost carrier for a weekend away etc may be a different proposition..

The effects on open borders in the Eu could also be an issue as with visitors visas having a up to date medical certificate, not sure how much travel insurance may go up either..

Probably all from London - everybody elsewhere in the country will very responsibly adhere to the advice given by the government and won’t put anybody at risk - all the people flocking to natural beauty sites/seaside etc in the pictures/videos recently were obviously anarchic Londoners who then dissipated around the country utilising then underground routes set up by the “London Underground” to complete their mission of infecting the rest of the country so that the god state of “Greater London” can reign supreme !

Perhaps mobilisation if the 3rd Regiment of Yorkshire “Ecky Thumps own” dragoon’s could be enacted to keep the devilish southerners at bay ?

As a Londoner lets me share my thoughts

1) if organisations can work from home they will / have. I have been self isolating for 3 weeks friday - with my company as a whole 3 weeks next Monday

2) 1/10 of the official population lives in London, with probably more in flats and house that is unofficial. London probably should have been shut the week before but it wasn’t as the general country wide guidance was in force

3) people are saying shut the tube etc. Tube journeys at 90% less than normal. Those 10% is probably key workers and shitty companies that are working.

4) i would say there are still people ignoring social isolating but people are trying. I live on a main road and the bus journeys which would normally be full are virtually empty with one or two people on

London is and always will be a different kettle of fish.

Hence why the 3 nightingale hospitals are being built in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

As someone who lives in London I was always expecting it to have the highest numbers, purely because this was circulating way before any lockdown took place. Thousands of people pass through it everyday, whether that be for work, leisure or tourism.

Most that work in central London don’t actually live here and commuted every day back to the Home Counties or further afield.

It is what it is, we just have to deal with it

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

It could be possible to use technology to control the movement of people..

Google maps and such platforms could give human traffic maps as most people's phones track their movement around cities.

Add to that a route planner whereby you plan your journey in advance thereby numbers of people could be limited to manageable numbers and prevent peak crowding.

What you're talking about just isn't feasible or legal. When you say Irish border, you're actually referring to the Island of Ireland, which as you know is has 2 separate jurisdictions. Then there's the small matter of the CTA

If brexit hadn't happened then both the UK and Ireland could have temporarily joined Schengen, which would have enabled a full shutdown of Europe's external borders, but Brexit and the CTA stops that.

But carry on with your xenophobic magic sky thinking, I suppose you're not hurting anyone in your own wee bubble.

Yes I’ve noticed indeed bit hard not too. As I say close the Irish borders and limit the spread, it’s not difficult to understand. No more brits in Ireland

Your profile says you’re in Northern Ireland? Don’t know how to break this to you , but residents of Northern Ireland are “Brits” as well. Are you sure your neighbours will be happy that you’re volunteering for you all to move out ?

Not volunteering we all move out for two reasons

1 majority of residents in North of Ireland are Nationalist so don’t class themselves as brits

2 clearly meant stopping brits coming into Ireland as my close the border statement suggested.

You concern yourself with whats happening on your own island heaven knows you have enough bother without looking more

Fuck me, could you not use this pandemic for political capital, please and thanks.

Do you believe we should keep the Irish borders open? What I’m saying makes sense, hard enough looking after our own never mind more infected people flying into Ireland Last month vast numbers of Irish visited Cheltenham Races - very risky perhaps ? "

That really showed how stupid and selfish people can be. Ireland had already stopped practically all major sporting events both north and south. All St Patrick's day celebrations had been cancelled by then, but there was no shortage of public criticism for people that traveled to cheltenham.

If you look at the physical distribution of CV19 cases, it broadly correlates with population density, London Dublin, Belfast all have higher numbers of cases relative to surrounding areas. I don't think a ring of steel is the solution. not now anyway.

But carry on with your xenophobic magic sky thinking, I suppose you're not hurting anyone in your own wee bubble."

This has absolutely nothing to do with the CTA or brexit absolutely nothing. Xenophobia has nothing to do with my views on closing our borders more to do with keeping the people of Ireland safe. Go you ahead and welcome everyone in with open arms just to keep your right wing ideology at peace. Ireland both north and south are now working together on a daily basis trying to beat this damn thing but hey mention brexit that’ll help

Xenophobia is not going to help the situation. It is all very well calling for borders to be closed - but ponder on this - just say that Ireland (as an Island in its entirety) , locks itself off from the rest of the world (because that’s the only way to do what you suggest , this thing isn’t just a “British” issue). Then a viable cure/vaccine is developed elsewhere - would you still insist on remaining isolated as an island , or world the blockade come down quicker than a £5 hooker’s knickers ? Or, if treatments were developed in NI, or the Republic, would they be denied to the rest of the world ?

This sort of thing never ends well. Right now the last thing that’s needed is to try to point fingers of blame at anybody. Yes everybody is scared , the world is being assailed by something which can’t be seen, which is being dealt with very much by trial and error, and which is totally indiscriminate in nature - it can effect people irrespective of their nationality, gender, race , sexuality , religious beliefs et al. Look at where such finger pointing and assessment of blame has got humanity in the past - the persecution and mass murder in Nazi occupied territories in WW2, genocide in Balkan countries following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and indeed sectarian violence and murder in NI.

What is REALLY needed is for people to actually try to put aside the ingrained “whats in it for me” mentality , and think of the bigger picture. There is finally a common “enemy” facing EVERY human on this planet. It gives us, as a supposed intelligent species , the opportunity get our heads out of our collective arsed to work TOGETHER to fight it - because that IS what is needed - not just the virus itself - but the inevitable social and economic changes that may well come around as a result of the actions that have been/may be taken. Or we can ignore the lessons of history , bury our heads in the sand , blame our troubles on everybody else in order to avoid having to take a long hard look in the mirror - and then possibly suffer an even more drastic change (probably for the worse) of life as we know it.

Will finish by saying it is our genuine and heartfelt hope that you all stay safe

Big Love all x

Jeez.. is the Ireland debate still going on.. ffs, haven't you noticed there is a worldwide pandemic..

It doesn't give a toss about borders or if you are green or orange, all it cares about is reproducing at your expense...

So really, it's a lot like those people that appeared on Jeremy kyle...

Yeah I thought this thread was about London !

Anyway if people are staying close to home then no one is gonna be crossing any border apart from key workers who work on either side

"Yes they should have locked it down. Too many didn’t pay any attention to the guidance and they are seeing the results of that now. I’m hopeful that the tide will turn over the couple of weeks. It’s tragic either way.

Cornwall was following advice from the start now our farming and fishing industry is in big danger again. Because of city folk

Our discovered cases number doesn't mean shit. It's like dipping a ladle into a cauldron of soup and saying "Well, there's at least this ladel-full in there.."

As for our death rate, I'm afraid when I apply my formula it tells me it will be higher than that of Spain's current one of 9,126 in one week's time from now, never mind a few weeks, sadly.

I do hope so, if I do I’ll gladly avail of their services as I’m a tax payer, a lot like me claiming an 80% wage as I’m entitled to do. Unionists lost their majority in last election don’t you know times are changing
