We now have 3 residents (dementia, over 80) with a cough, 1 with pneumonia. The doctor won't test them and if they die it will go down as natural causes and not CV19.
The odds of it so read right through all 105 residents and many staff is extremely high.

Because I'm there when the doctor is there and explaining what will happen.
Currently only those admitted to ICU are being tested, not those kept in the home or living in society at large.
We're all very sad right now. These are seriously vulnerable people and it's getting harder and harder to not explode at this whole stinking system of profit over people. That's the worst pandemic, at least the virus doesn't screw it's own kind over for a few quid in the bank.

Your headline suggests hospital but your OP suggests a home (residents). What is it? The reason I ask is that (if things haven't changed due to crisis) it'd affect post mortem requirements (and subsequent death certificate statements).
Anyway whatever it is, remember to look after yourself and colleagues. You matter as much as the residents. |

Sadly i think it is down to them having dementia for which there is no cure. Most will have a DNR in place. Drs will save young and healthy first before the old and frail. Sad but true. I too work in a dementia unit and dread the day the virus arrives to us. |

On the news last night there was an old guy from Ireland who had just lost his wife. He said she was taken away in an ambulance breathing and that was the last he'll ever see of her. Heartbreaking.

We had email off our local health centre practice manager last week asking us (in slightly more tactful terms but we got what they meant) to hurry up and sort DNACPR's for all the residents to save them becoming a drain on resources should they become ill. |

The explosion of numbers in the care homes has started, from what I'm seeing it's not going to end well.
I feel the residents are just being hidden away from the viewing world. I feel so sorry for them and now sone homes have gone into quarantine with staff being asked to either live there 24/7 or go on the sick and get ssp.

You should be provided with correct level of PPE to deal with them (check who.int for non aerosol generating for complete list but mainly surgical mask - ideally visor if risking coughing).
If not raise a grievance on base of art.44 Employment Act 1996, decide if you want to put yourself at risk or withdraw. (You are of no use as super spreader or dead...) |
