Covid 19 and the Flu

Will the governments take flu serious now we've been educated in handling Covid 19, each year the Flu kills 500,000 people worldwide which includes the 12,000-16,000 that die each year in the UK.

Flu is 5 times more deadlier a killer than Covid 19 yet doesn't get treated as importantly for some reason...

This has been pointed out by scientists already, the hype is because this is new and "novel", and in couple years time, will be most likely to be like a common cold due to way viruses mutate for there own survival.. Or it will burn itself out like SARS or Ebola...

Not that I'm an expert or anything, but that's what the literature I've read states.

Flu vs Corvid 19 -

The flu is a range of infections, generally occurring with predictable consequences. The new infection is less understood and is just in the very early part of its impact on the UK and elsewhere. Its mortality rate is higher than flu and no one had immunity when it arrived. There's a higher level of immunity to flu, due to vaccines given each year.

The new infection has the entire population to run through, with more potential deaths due to this 60 odd million people and that it kills more people that it infects than flu.

At 1% mortality, it could kill 600,000 people but it appears that it could have a higher mortality rate than 1%. If people survive, they may have substantial lung damage and some failure of other organs. This alone should help us to understand how it's different from flu and could seriously harm more people.

Flu obviously devastates many lives and the NHS expects its resources to be taken by flu every winter. Prior to this, it vaccinates many people, to reduce the likely infection rate.

Some organisations are working on a vaccination that would prevent more or all types of flu, rather than the handful of predicted types that are vaccinated for each year today. A universal flu vaccine would be much more reliable and is perhaps the best thing that could be done for it, apart from the allocation of sufficient NHS investments for treatment and prevention. It may never happen. Flu is certainly a major problem for the world. If we get a new type of flu, then the effects could be like the Spanish flu a century ago and measures to contain it would be similar to the current Corvid.

For now, we must costrain the numbers of people infected with this, due to no one having immunity.

The mortality rate question is interesting as it varies country to.country.

Germany has the most extensive testing and reports a mortality rate of 0.6%.

Italy runs at around 9% and the UK around 5%.

That's very interesting, but is Italy not more to do with being all but abandoned by the E.U.??

What about the millions of people that die of entirely preventable diseases for which there are already vaccines available for..

Covid might be quite bad at the moment, but will only harm a fraction of the number that measles and malaria will.

That’s only as a result of increased testing.

The more you rest the lower the death rate.

We (so far) have only really been testing people who have been hospitalised, so our numbers ignore the millions who have already had, and recovered from it in the community

Do you have a source for this information

% of people dying is only related to who and how many are tested. For now we are only testing people who go into hospital or die, so the % is going to be high. Some experts are saying for everyone tested 20 more could have had it and not know so figures mean nothing. By the way ever with the crap way they are testing 99% recover.

Mortality rates in age groups will probably be about the same everywhere. The differences given are due to the numbers tested. If we aren't testing mild cases it will give a false rate.

It's been all over the mainstream media, Italy has a high number of medical staff who have died thus far..

Sadly they are not and won't be the only country in that situation..

Correct. But without reliable, relevant information it will be more difficult to formulate a coherent, effective plan in the longer term.

Lockdown can only be implemented for a finite amount of time.

Could be to do with the viral load too.

The higher the viral load the worse it is.

Therefore people working with infected patients 12 hours a day 7 days a week could get a high viral load. A d someone who touches a door handle and then their mouth could get a low viral load.

" have you seen the news today ? "

Lets be honest though, even though im watching the news i am questioning a lot and dont beieve everything.

Couple of examples of why i dont trust media that has happened this week.

Firstly sky news shows a picture of a ICU ward in itay.

CBS an anerican news station shows exact same picture saying ICU ward in new york.

Secondly sky shows video footage of a load of coffins (not sure which country it was claimed to be in), when it was a direct cut and pasted clip from a 2017 movie called Unlocked.

It isn't a well known movie and thought no one would notice.

So yeah when the media starts pulling shit like this then why should people trust anything they are saying.

More to do with an older population, more intimate social norms (hugging and kissing) and higher incidence of smoking apparently.

In the interests of balance/accuracy ;

UK flu deaths in 2018/9 — 312

(England 273)

Source;

I think the Express may have quoted the worst year on record (pre vaccine take up)

Unusual for the Express to sensationalise
