Quite understandably we are all coming to terms with an unprecedented change in the way we live our lives today and in the forthcoming weeks. Simply, there are few if any, references in history to which we can all point and say, this is what we all should do and if we do them, the future will look like this ????? It dawned on me that it might be interesting to imagine what the history books would record for the period we are all going through. So with quill in hand, who wants to start off a thread by imagining themselves sat around the dining table on Boxing day 2020 and discussing the following two questions:

1. What does UK life look like on 26th December 2020?

2. What happened (nationally or globally or in any or context you feel that is important e.g. swinging, NHS, economy, technology, brexit, China, Trump etc.) to influence life between now and 26th December 2020?

The black death in the middle ages ravaged the worlds population

The wealthy landowners realised that their were no peasants left to tend their land, and grow their food

In turn, the peasants that were left were able to demand higher wages, and lower rents

The balance of power shifted

Our society has already changed. I am hoping we will have a future full of less selfish, materialistic people, and a fairer distribution of wealth

One can but hope

All a bit depressing really which is why we are generally avoiding the news (just checking vital advice) and enjoying each day as it comes. Spent some quality time with the kids in the back garden in the sun and started to learn Spanish via a free app (which will probably cease in about 2 days). Will watch Netflix, some happy property porn, the one with Caroline Quentin, an episode of friends then 10 minutes of Ask a Pornstar. Hopefully whatever the UK looks like at Christmas we will at least have some happy memories to look back on as well valuable insight into the world of porn.

Hmnn you're not asking for much. First assumption is a vaccine in 9 months , otherwise we will be dealing with round 2. In no particular order. The high street will look much different, Debenhams is toast, unless fat mike can borrow the money, which isn't likely. Similarly WH Smiths will go the way of woolworths.

Unless labour unfucks itself sharpish, Boris is safe as to continue as disaster in chief. I think there will be a Brexit extension. I think there is a credible risk of Trump seeking to suspend the election. The body count in the USA will be eyewateringly high which will be his undoing.

China will look to assert itself both economically and politically. Amazon will be even bigger.

Maybe the swinging community will start using VR. CV19 will leave both a collective and individual trauma on society. Survivors guilt will be terrible, expect to see an increase in suicides. We will be fortunate if we are still here on 26/12/2020.

Boxing Day 2020...

"If you asked me this time last year would I ever resort to cannibalism I'd tell you only if my plane crashed in the Andies like in that movie."

And give a rhy chuckle

"But sitting here, with my belt buckle undone, picking bits of Mike my former neighbour from next door out of my teeth with his index finger I have to say it ain't all bad."

"Sure he always was a bollox but who knew such a tasty one"

We had a haunch of Mike yesterday for dinner and finished him off today

Cannibalism is now the in thing after Corbyn fully blew a fuse after months of listening to Boris's shit and ill judged quips.

The former Labour leader beat BoJo senseless and started to eat him raw live on Sky News

Kay Burly was conducting the interview with the Last Primeminister when all hell broke loose

It was commented upon later that though she looked frozen and in shock she also had a feral, turned on expression

Leading people to surmise that yes they were right and indeed she was a bit of a sick fuck all along

Soon after the shops closed for good and there was no football on so most people said fuck it

Now since the remaining population has eaten the other half most people aren't in need as there is more than enough of what's left to go around

It is said that the taxidermied scarecrow corpse of Corbyn that now stands forever at 12 o'clock on the face of Big Ben as a warning to Tory Boys everywhere sheds one happy tear every day at the time of his first bite of Boris

To commemorate the most unlikely dawn of this new socialist utopia

Where there are neighbours a plenty and no road rage to speak of

I would like to think that society would reappraise what is important but I think the disaster capitalists will be standing by to buy for pennies in the pound when the time is right. They were there after hurricane katrina, the boxing day tsunami and earthquake in Haiti.

There was an interesting headline in the guardian saying that a number of conservatives were suggesting that Boris actually form a coalition govt, the thinking being it would help distribute the blame when all this is over.

Boxing day

Some remnants of Christmas dinner remain but it was a paupers meal, compared to normal for most. The masses splurged but supplies were limited.

As restrictions on gatherings were lifted, people thronged to sell off unwanted items from their home - spending long periods there reminded them how much excess stuff they have. They're fairly broke, like many people, so the sales income is welcome, helping them buy second hand gifts for others too.

New infections and deaths in the UK tailed off early autumn. The USA is less fortunate, still having increases, though Trump has ensured local state Governors implemented draconian control measures, so he took less of a hit, from criticism.

People living alone seem to have emerged from the aftermath of the virus in a better state than many. Reports of savage relationship failures are widespread, as many have been forced to repeat the annual vacation and extended Christmas holidays feelings of being suffocated by their partners, who they could no longer deny that they didn't know them so well anymore, and certainly found them and their behaviour rather repugnant.

It's the end of capitalist greed. We are learning what is really important.

"Without people you're nothing" (Joe Strummer)

There will be the formation of a new global economy with a currency based around kindness and compassion.

More care of the environment too.

It will be remembered for any number of things, pretty ridiculous how quickly people turned on one another for stuff like Bog roll.

Will be interesting to see how all this pans out, one thing's for sure is that this event has shown how much we need the NHS.

Worked fine for Native Americans until we came along. Very powerful and persuasive I accept but being told that capitalism is the only way is a lie based on greed and selfishness.

I like the end of meaningless consumerism for sure, but sad to see relationships not being able to cope with this enforced togetherness. And yes I sense the USA is not going to exit this event particularly well, regardless of the buffoon (DT) getting re-elected!

Gosh sweetie I hope you are ok? Maybe I could offer a little support with the points you have raised:

- Forget your pubes, I have and it’s liberating.

- Speak to your bank now don’t leave it until the red zone hits.

- Filter your FB to allow only the friends/groups you trust and enjoy speaking with.

- Celebrate fab forum and celebrate your sexuality and new friends even more.

- You are not alone being tired and apprehensive so take solace many are in the same boat.

- Hug your apprentice adult as often as she will let you.

- Write your own future with rose tints and positivity and don’t read the gloom laden predictions of others.

Accept a virtual hug from a stranger x

I agree with this, there's too much atrocity in the world for this to continue being at the forefront of the minds of the general public. Especially as most people are predominantly focused on their own little world.

When we come out the other end of this crisis, some people will be seeking the fastest path to elevate themselves financially, others will be craving the life they had beforehand and rush to fall back in to it.

Very few will reflect, and if this is over by Christmas then on boxing day must people will be doing the same as they are always do - probably flicking through the channels to find a James Bond movie
