"Looks like stricter measures coming today.
Water and soap cannons?"
My understanding is that they are " actively considering" tighter measures
They need to actively consider a bit more bloody quickly |

"Can’t come quick enough
Agreed, I cant believe how many people there are wandering around town."
Unfortunately because so many can’t follow or understand basic rules, and seeing this like a holiday, it is the only way. Say goodbye to the freedom to just go for a walk

If there's ever a time for naming and shaming, this is it. Not the Fab ban kind. The "report to licensing and permanently boycott" kind. Selfish fuckers will have blood on their hands. |

I don't understand the current strategy, is it to keep us in isolation until the virus is eradicated or till a vaccine is available? That would take a lot of testing.
If so we couldn't open our borders till it is eradicated world wide.
Also we were told we needed 'herd immunity' which means a lot of us need to get it
Apologies if the approach is fully documented somewhere, just I haven't seen it |

I believe it’s to keep it under control so that the NHS aren’t overwhelmed. |

The idea is that we slow the spread. We can't prevent it, but if we all isolate, we slow it down to a point where the health system can cope with increased demand. Rather than having to ration use of ventilators. |

Drag it out and "flatten the curve" that way at its peak it wont break our healthcare system and is much more manageable. |

If we don't go into full lockdown maybe another 50 people will die 6 months early. The rules we have now as slowed it down, let's face we will never stop it. |

I know of a couple of cases where the pubs had prepared and bought extra food for Mother’s Day.
They were closed but still cooked up the food and offered it to the local community at half the price. You had to supply your own plates / containers to take it away in. If interested you were given a set time to arrive and collect with 5 minutes between each collection.
It went down a storm and most in that area were grateful for a decent cooked meal, as struggling to source food.
Better that than good food gone to waste |

Taking away people's basic human rights to roam and removing their civil liberties to come and go is a serious serious step, I personally think it is the wrong decision for many reasons.
I do think that the elderly and vulnerable need protecting and this should be achieved through self imposed isolation and distancing.
I also agree that a minority of inconsiderate people are spoiling it but putting the whole country under house arrest is not the answer and giving the government the power to do so is a scary, Orwellian notion. |

What about peoples most basic of human right? The right to live. Allowing people no matter how much of a minority they are to spread a virus that is killing 100s of people amounts to inhumane euthanasia. |

Agreed 100%. We will need our democracy and civil rights long after this poxxy virus has been sent on its way.... Handing over such powers to politicians is never a wise idea, they have a habit of forgetting to hand those powers back when the "crisis" has passed.... |

We tried that but people didn’t follow the rules of social distancing. So the only way is lock down, that might make those that have flouted the rules so far, think a bit more of how they act when it’s partially lifted. |

Essential functions only. The economic consequences will be catastrophic, of course, but so would the alternative death toll. |

I disagree there are a lot of preparations, especially financial ones. Unlocking funds, looking to assist your children etc. The government must have done an impact assessment by now, it would be good to know the outcome. I understand it's not a science, but an educated guess would be good |

We tried that but people didn’t follow the rules of social distancing. So the only way is lock down, that might make those that have flouted the rules so far, think a bit more of how they act when it’s partially lifted.
Yes. If people had done what was needed in a global crisis then maybe it wouldn't have come to this.
I'm no fan of politicians, particularly these ones, but infectious diseases don't give a damn about your civil liberties, and human lives come first.
And what would that be close the whole world down?
Essential functions only. The economic consequences will be catastrophic, of course, but so would the alternative death toll.
Close countries and flights???
You do realise that people are still coming in from all over the world?"
I'm not in charge. All I can do is park my arse at home and keep informed, and hope others do likewise. |

You're not wrong about the police, but looking at boris this week he doesn't look like a man who wants to make that big decision, which makes me think he'll put it off as long as he possibly can. |

Well if there are not enough to stop people congregating certainly won't be enough to stop people coming out of their houses.... A cop at the end of every street.... I don't think so !! |

Same way that other crimes are policed, such as minor drug offences, stop and search kind of thing during normal patrols, if they see you out and about they stop you for a chat, on the spot fines and reporting to courts etc |

Indeed. Such a law seems to be needed even if it can't be perfectly enforced. |

It kind of is though when you take into consideration how many people would die as a result of a deep recession, you only have to look at history to tell you that. Sadly it's a fine balance and there probably isn't an ideal solution. I dont envy our government or their expert advisors right now. |

The threat alone of being seen by a patrol car and getting a fine or reported to the courts will dissuade a vast majority of people from flaunting the advise, because they're not criminals and dont want to get into trouble. |

How do you get COVID-19 by going for a walk?
Where you are more likely to get infected is making a daily trip to the shops to see if there's toilet paper yet. |

Encountering others or touching contaminated surfaces. Btw, the virus survives for hours or days on some surfaces, everything is potentially contaminated. |

The lockdown is about stopping the spread of the virus and protecting people’s lives. to be fair people were told they could go and enjoy the outdoors.
Whilst still practising social distancing. Did you see footage of the tubes, markets etc on the news earlier? It was really busy!!! "
The crowds on the tube are not the passengers fault, the transport system in London has been mismanaged badly by Sadiq Khan and TFL from day one.
Also it is doctors advice that people shouldn't stay indoors full time if they are not displaying symptoms. Fresh air and exercise are actual recommendations. |

"Uk is two weeks behind Italy. Do we really want the equivalent death toll, because some people wanted a stroll on a beach and a 99. How incredible small minded and selfish of people. No. But I got plenty when I went for a jogging a few laps round the park yesterday, which is the kind of freedom I feel should not be taken away as a knee jerk reaction to public hysteria. |

Yes of course we all need fresh air but at a safe distance from others. Unfortunately most aren’t doing that and that’s the problem |

Let's see what it says 1st.
They have to do something to counter the mass levels of idiocy at the weekend.
If people isolating fit a few weeks is going to save 100s of lives..I think that is a price worth paying. |

Exactly this. And I know crowds on transport isn't the passengers fault but it'll be their fault if they spread the virus to fuck knows how many people! |

"Lock down coming, due to the fuck wits who think they are immune to anything. Just look at yesterday no social distance or conscience. Niw the consequences. ( hope they are proud of what they did)
Lol so you're blaming the lock down on those that went to the beach, a public place?
It wasnt just the beach..loads of tourist places were swamped.
You literealy couldn't make it up.
I'll blame them. They're idiots.
Yeah us Norfolk folk are chasing the foreigners down the road with pick forks and chanting “ burn ‘em , burn ‘em
Normal day in Norfolk then ?
Yep got my lantern ready "
Haha did make me laugh and remind me of a conversation with my mam. She lives on Norfolk coast and within two days their village had the local camp site closed down as people arrived to self isolate there for 3 months..... except they weren’t self isolating and filling the village and beach |

The person I know on crowded transport this morning is an NHS worker. And most of the crowd were other NHS workers. |

But they have no realistic option than to use public transport thanks to the short sighted and incompetent policies in place. |

Agreed, the concern that I have is the worse case scenario of a total restriction of movement which could have more detrimental effects than the virus itself.
A managed and thought out, defined period of limited interaction could prove effective in the short term although isolation will probably not provide mid to long term solution. |

They were never going to just lock everyone in their houses. |
