I used to enjoy watching programmes on telly about people who were prepping for some catastrophic event.
I thought they were a bit bonkers that they would spend so much time and money on stockpiling food and unperishable products.
But now with the panic buying that we are witnessing maybe they got it right! At least some of it.

I had two cats. One (Ray) would wolf down his food as soon as I put it down. The other (Eddie) would leave a bit for later.
Eddie would then go out hunting. While he was out, Ray would eat all Eddie’s food. Eddie would then return with a mouse or bird and Ray would then fight Eddie and eat the kill too.
I’m not advocating preppers have guns, just that it’s not always those who prepare that thrive. |

"For anyone in lockdown looking for stuff to watch on Netflix have a gander at doomsday preppers

A good idea to start but when you've got the stuff you're then a target. Guns being the appropriate possesion.
Then when you've survived and everyone is gone there isn't much of a world left. Is it delaying the inevitable?
Hopefully we can keep alive through this one. |

My mum always taught me to 'stockpile' non perishables and I did it for years things like soap powder, toiletries, tins stuff, things that lasted for a long time and wouldn't go off when the kids lived at home for the time if I ever got sick and was off work or I lost my job they would always be stuff in. The spare room was always full of stuff, the kids always questioned why I did it, now they know. But over time I delved into it especially when they left home... Wish I'd of kept it going now.... |

I used to think they were bit nuts... but they may have had a point.
The reality is that the government has had "Flu pandemic" on its risk register since at least 2008. Right in the top right corner as one of the most impacting and most likely to happen. And yet it has seemed very much unprepared.

Yeh made me a bit suspicious. Prepare to lose people? Why opt for herd immunity? Where were the intel peeps on this in December November even? Slow lockdown, no checks at Airports until March? All a bit reactionary.
Even the finacial aid thing only changed fom loans to grants after the select committee stepped in and grilled Mr Sunak.
Do I trust the goverment?

I don't think any of this has vindicated the preppers, it's just shown up how soft and weak some people have become (the people who are stripping the shelves in the supermarkets and denying the more vulnerable access to necessary resources). |

"If you think the "prep brigade" are the ones responsible for the shelves being empty now, then have no idea what "prepping" actually is... "
On this I agree with you...they have been doing it slowly over years and stock rotating. This is panicky buyers... |

Prepers don't panic buy. They build up their stocks over long periods and then replenish those stocks at same rate that most other people do.
Prepers will be some of the few actually buying at this time.

Have a look for a BBC programme called: “If... the lights go out” not sure it’s available on iPlayer but might be on YT
In it, there is panic buying, a breakdown of society and the family who have prepped become the focus of attacks. |
