To see if you are holding a distance from people, they are planning to do it on only one network to test it out cos of the virus. I forgot which one, isnt this like big brother to gather as much info as they can? There are few faults with the idea, what if you dont take your phone for example then it would be quite hard to impose there. |

Yeah, it would be easy to leave your phone at home but the govt can also legislate to make it an offence to avoid detection. You can also be guaranteed they will be using stingrays and all information held by public and private entities to cross reference. Ask yourself what is more important at this stage. |

"Do you not think that we are already spies on through our devices anyway? " Yes I do and yes we are already being spied on our phones in one way or another as well through apps too that we are using.

I believe as long as you line your hat with tinfoil then they can’t control your mind!! Anyone can track me anytime and anywhere - I don’t care - they will know who i associate with - who i call - what i google ( that will raise a few eyebrows- who knew donkeys could do that!?) I just don’t care - freedom is not caring what other people do or think and being happy - as long as you do no harm I have no issue what you do. |

"Yes turn your phone off simples
Back on when you need it "
If it goes the same way as the model china is using...you will not be able to move without showing the green scan code on your phone. It changes from red to amber and green. Stretch borders and public transport will not let you pass with out it being green...so no phone no movement.
And yes it is being looked at to use here. |

"Yeah was watching sky news last night they're wanting aggregate data from O2 to see if people are sticking to the social distancing or not "
thank you......
they are not asking for individual data, they are asking for group data to see if people are basically adhering to the "self isolation" advisory... and the correlation to see if it helping to contain the spread....

Love the Isle of Man government
Just locked up their first person for failing to self isolate
3 months locked up and £10000 fine should do the trick
See bbc news |

Also recent passports and driver licence can be tracked using GPS. But I'm sure only accurate to around 10ft or so, so not sure how that'll help see how far you are from person.. It'll be more for when we go on lockdown that it'll be useful. |

most fundamental aspects |
This has been being used in South Korea for weeks now.
The unintended consequences have involved people being outed for visits to massage parlours and quite a few affairs. However there is not much objection, as it meant for the good of all |

Dear god... I’ll say again... dear god. Is there a head slapping emoji available... there is a difference between can do it and will do it... how many phones ? How much information needs to be processed to do it?

The government response to date has been "don't go out!!!!" (unless you want to of course) and "sing a song whilst washing your hands!!!"
These butt-nuggets tracking me on my phone is not worrying in the slightest |

"If you want to know your phone can be tracked when it off read this.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/13/gps-can-spy-on-you-even-when-you-turn-it-off.html"
Having read the article, it says your phone can still be tracked if you turn off your GPS location, as it uses tracking apps surreptitiously downloaded through other apps to collect sensor data such as acceleration, gyroscope and magnetometer, which is used to orientate your phone, to work out which routes you are taking. It is hard to pinpoint your location in a place such as Manhattan as it is a grid-based city, but places with distinctive shaped roads are easier to work out.
Nowhere does it say that if you turn off your phone it can still be tracked. |

It can be tracked same as a passport or drivers licence. As far as I'm aware, you can't switch passport or license on and off... |

Passports and drivers license cards may well have RFID chips in them, but how powerful do you think the readers will have to be for someone to be able to track you as you move along roads and paths etc? |

I believe that in general, they are accurate to around 10ft, and I think, phones etc isn't much better.
I agree that in real terms, it won't be realistic to track everyone. Although if/when an actual curfew is in place is when it would be a useful tool. |

There are roughly 1.7M postcodes in the UK, to keep track of people presumably you'd need at least that number of readers; I don't think there's much to worry about... |
