IN most cases, people wouldn’t be any better off. There wouldn’t be trillions of extra inflation-making pound floating around. You’d be replacing complicated benefits with a simple, payment that guarantees a basic standard of life. Everyone who earned on top of that would be paying tax on every penny, so would not have loads of extra to spend. |

"Finland.....there are others but cannot cite them. It was abandoned there...
Finland was different. It was only for the unemployed. "
OK... Guess if UBI was paid here it would only be paid to people of working age. Those of us on pension would not need it..
In general I would not be in favour, prefer something a bit more targeted... |

"No as it will lead to massive inflation
How so?"
Look at what help-to-buy did to house prices. Housebuilders simply added it on to the price of a new house. |

By the way, I also agree that this so called free open market idea doesn't work either - look at the US. Trust me, you wouldn't want to live there if you have issues. It is ok if you are able and rich but huge areas of the US look terrible. |

Seems unnecessary and just stupidly expensive.
Work on the benefits system for people who really need it, this would just encourage more people not to work, and really wouldn’t make any difference to those of us that do support ourselves.
Use some of the money to set the infrastructure up so that if you claim unemployment benefits, then you are available and called upon to do community work x amount of days a month.
Excluding the disabled and those that we genuinely have an obligation as a country to support. There’s no way an able bodied capable person should be entitled to money for doing nothing, it’s a safety net and is there because there are no jobs and you can’t provide for yourself, so you essentially work for the country while you get back on track. |

Yep, an example of "tinkering around" with a system that had some problems but the so called "solutions" made things worse. Quite a few examples of that around when you come to look... |

How so expensive?
Think of the red tape that would be jettisoned in and instant.
Also, in a civilised society doesn’t everyone deserve a basic standard of living?
My question was aimed specifically in this forum for this point in time. There are thousands of people who do not qualify for sickness payment, or compensation for their loss of income due to the nature of their work. How will the benefits system cope with the huge influx of new claimants? (having proved itself incapable of dealing with the current amount), and how are people expected to live in the interim?
Even the Trump is contemplating it.

I think any relaxing of unnecessary bureaucracy in order to enable us all to do the best we can and lessen financial worry in relation to being able to provide our most basic needs at this time is a really positive and sensible measure |
