Yes, because they've had a very severe lock down which is only being relaxed in parts of the country now. I think for Hubei they have said they will not lift the lock down until there have been zero new cases for 2 weeks. |

Undecided. They lied at least once before about it not being true, then surpressed the real truth, then had to admit it as Pandora's box opened and social media too hold and other world leaders and the WHO stepped in.
As the popular fab saying goes, if they lie about...... what's to say they aren't lying about anything else?
Why should I just accept what they are saying now is true?
So Im undecided. |

I strongly suspect they have not reported accurate figures of people diagnosed & actual deaths. I speak with a number of people across China on a daily basis and they all said the same thing to me.

I'm afraid it's a no from me, same as numbers of deaths I don't believe that either as loads will have gone unreported in the countryside.
When I was at university I was told categorically never to use any research from China because it's so unreliable (false) why now would I suddenly believe it? |

No I don't for one minute.
Do I believe that they will have a lower death count per head than Italy? Undoubtably (in fact probably a lower count per head than the majority of countries where the virus takes decent hold)
As over there it's less civilised and brutality and totalitarianism can be used willy nilly if there's a serious issue. Plus they were far better prepared, as they kick off far more than their fair proportionate share of viruses (most notably SARS) due to questionable eating practices and low levels of hygiene. If something is a larger regular issue in a country they will be better prepared for it, in this case owning a huge chunk of the world's testing kits being just one example.
The Italian population has a far greater number of elderly than China, which are more vulnerable to the disease.
Italy's healthcare system is regionalised, meaning that there's less communication between the different regions.
Most of the initial cases in China were limited to one city, making it easier to lockdown.
See the locals in Wuhan don't tend to travel much from Hubei province. Whereas the first cases in Italy were from those who travelled a lot in their jobs anyway as they had to come into contact with infected Chinese or those from other countries who had encountered them.
So they tended to move around a lot more before being discovered, meaning the virus suddenly popped up in several places.
So in short, yes once it was identified they did a pretty good job in knocking it down rapidly. The world can learn certain things from this at least. But don't for one minute believe everything their government say as they have to try and save an enormous amount of face after this latest global cock up they caused and if massaging the figures in true Billy Bullshitter style cuts the mustard then believe me, they will.
And as for their government being efficient at wiping this scourge out. Yes, they are, unquestionably so. But in my humble opinion that is like saying a shit juggler is far more efficient at quickly picking balls up from the floor than one who can juggle proficiently.

Don't beleive a word that comes out of China. They kept it quiet for 2 months to start with. And to say they had less deaths than Italy just isn't credible....
And dont forget where and why it started...down to their 3rd world food hygiene |

Fair enough that you believe China authorities are not always forthcoming with information but I still don’t see what it is they would stand to benefit or gain from not providing factual Information about there being no new reported cases ...
Anyone have any suggestions on why they would lie about this ??? |

Here's a whopping reason; they feel they have to.
Right now they look like prize instigators of grief to the world due to something so simple as their lackadaisical approach to public and basic food hygiene and it's regulations.
Furthermore it's not the first time a shitstorm virus that they've somehow bungled into existence has caused a global panic, just that this one is on the biggest scale.
They need to save face quickly and by any cost as people the world over are now cursing their government's ability to somehow continue to engineer cock up after cock up of magnitude in the first place and make no mistake this is the biggest one yet.
So they therefore need to show the world that they can at least tidy up their own mess in their own backyard with some efficiency and then try to win back at least a little favour by sharing the knowledge (and their bloody testing kits and don't get me started on the ridiculous situation on us not having anywhere near enough of them) they've gathered from studying this damned virus for longer than any other country in the world.
Using a played down analogy of comparing this current catastrophe to a common workplace, and fittingly in this instance perhaps let's say the countries of the world were a team of shelfstackers preparing a store for an extremely busy shopping day tomorrow. China would be a clumsy bloke with a nickname of Messy Dave, who somehow succeeded in bumping over an entire aisle of shelving, spilling jars of pasta sauces all over the shop so that half the fucking floor is covered in goop and broken glass, making a great racket so that everyone looks round in stunned silence to hear a dopey sounding "Oops!" from the useless plum. Two minutes before the shift is due to finish.
And worse still the stupid sod has clumsily done this exact thing a few times before.
Does the silly bastard then just stand there scratching his arse looking gormless? Hell no, not if he knows what's good for him. He gets stuck right into clearing up massive clusterfuck with his colleagues (as no one can leave before it's spotless) and by God he realises he'd better work harder than anyone else at it too (and make everyone aware that he does) and maybe just maybe the entire group might not go to the general manager tomorrow and as one refuse to to work with the sausage any more.

Refuse to work with the "sausage"? Good luck not relying on China to carry on manufacturing the vast majority of things in your possession, including the device you might be reading this on.
In keeping with your strange analogy, this "store" probably wouldn't have as many customers because Dave is the only way things are affordable based on the global economy we live in and every other "shelf stacker" is aware and complicit in that.
The fact that you think "Dave" needs to do something "if he knows what's good for him" is laughable when you consider he's essentially a modern superpower.
So much could be said about this and the other drivel overflowing in these forums, but it would be about as useful as the morons stacking up on masks thinking they'll protect them from the virus.

Firstly a small detail but my phone was made in South Korea. Yes, you can buy things made in China comparatively cheaper as they've built the bulk of their economy on merely copying most other countries' ideas and producing them at less cost. Two main reasons; they exploit more of their workforce and produce a lot of the time inferior quality. I don't doubt that there's a few things in my house that are made in China for their products reach far and wide. But if I was after anything reliable, integral and to last the test of time I wouldn't rank their produce as the most logical solution.
Keeping with the shelfstacker analogy let's make Dave the MD's nephew. This reflects his power and status, but he's still a clumsy bugger who is responsible for causing untold grief. Think anyone else would actively want to work with him if he didn't at least try and act like he gave a shit about his disastrous escapades?
I don't have a downer on the vast majority of the Chinese people. They are simple ordinary folk going about their day to day lives, providing for their families like we do. But I certainly have a downer on their powers that be, who after such a disaster in the past refuse to stringently tighten up their hygiene standards and as a result cause another similar mess to last time, only bigger.
Also I believe a poster above thought that others besmirching the honesty of China's politicians somehow indicates in contrast that we all think Boris Johnson is a noble man relied upon to tell the truth at all times? The two aren't mutually exclusive. I didn't vote for Boris and even the Party Leader I voted for I only did so believing them to be the "Best of a bad bunch". The overwhelming majority of politicians worldwide are complete whoppers, a lot of the time because it pays them dividends to be so.

It's the individual components of things like smartphones, tablets etc that China produced in great numbers; despite where your devices are assembled/manufactured, chances are some of the components like processors, screens, boards etc are of Chinese origin. |
