"Why is gym one of worst places, people there probably wash more?"
People don't always wipe down the equipment. Plus, the rate and depth of breathing increases, in a room with not always a great ventilation. So theoretically, gems could be everywhere in the air. |

I have a fully equipped gym on my property, Olympic Bar sets, Dumbbells 2.5kg through to 42.5, Hammer Strength Machines, everything I could need.
So not worried. |

Once I'm over my chest infection I've talked with my PT. I'm at a chain gym but she has her own small studio, all sessions will be in there, equiptment sanitised and I can enter and leave without touching a single surface or coming into contact with anyone. |

I went to the gym last week and it wasn't as busy as before.
I won't be going this week though. I will be working out from home for the next two weeks. While I won't be able to do any heavy lifts like squats, rows and deadlifts I'll still be able to keep active.
You won't die by missing the gym for a couple of weeks. |

I'm a member of the local council gym which I assume will be shut before long which is shit cos I need to get in shape. (and yes I'm aware that public safety comes first before anyone says it!)
If I have to stay in has anyone got any tips for decent home based workouts? I've literally only got a barbell/dumbell set in the apartment.
NB. My hands/arms aren't great due to multiple operations and ankle has had a full reconstruction so something low resistance would be great. |

Theres a couple of apps that I used to use. Cant remember the exact name but it was different exercises over the course of 100 days. I'll see if I can find it |

Just type in exercise at home. It's by a group called leap fitness group. Got red logos. You'll see them |

Still open but hand cloths to wipe machines down before and after use, hand sanitizer in there and they have put all machines 2 meters apart. Can’t punch in your codes to the keypad but they have got an automatic door to use....Very quiet but until things change and you use your common sense why not go. |

Went on Friday, but decided to have a two week break. I'm not worried about picking up the virus myself - but what if I get it and pass it onto someone who is vulnerable? Not worth the risk.
Been out running every day an doing some body weight exercises. It's a good time to change things up. I'm sure I'll be back in the gym soon so a break is fine. |

I went for the first time in awhile today. It's extremely clean (I've never seen it so spotless, and it wasn't dirty before) and quiet, I'm wiping everything down, washing my hands before I go in and out, not touching my face, and staying away from other people. |

Suggested my gym did this on a post on social media as they seem intent on doing the bare minimum just so they can say they are doing something. They deleted my post...
So I'm not going, the staff were doing their best but to he honest I would trust half the blokes in their to wipe their own arses. Dirty bastards and not in a good way. That said I work opposite it and it looks so empty I might start going on a lunchtime |

"Work out at home, guys. You really shouldn't be going to the gym now. Think about other people. "
I'm balancing the gym, given I have no equipment at home, with my mental health, and scrubbing myself and all equipment.
My mental health matters for the (now remote) work I'm doing to support vulnerable people. |

The limit to numbers, constant cleaning, hand sanitisation and new spacing measures at our gym make it less likely to catch the virus than going to the supermarket - this has been validated by experts - unless you’re going to start snogging the other Members or licking machines not sure how it’s possible to catch it - can you explain ?
Too much fake news and scaremongering |

I part own a gym and we have offered time slots to enable social distancing and control... After every session it is cleaned down and temperature is taken on arrival. |

The gym is probably higher risk, but risk needs to be balanced against other factors.
Personally for me, my social distancing is over 75% (I'm basically in solitary apart from gym and as little supermarket as I can get away with), and the gym keeps me sane. My sanity helps me help the most vulnerable who are all but imprisoned. |

I'm still going and will continue to do so until the close them, there are plenty of hand sanitisers around the gym and everyone is cleaning equipment after they have used it, only thing I'm not doing up there now is using the pool and I'm not using the steam rooms or shower facilities, I just shower when I get home |

Cancelled monthly DD today and working out at home until this is over, dont want to take added risk
Yes, everyone is clean and healthy same as everyone is std free, until the are not!!!
Nobody knows who others mingle with and infection can lay dormant for 5 days, I just dont consider it a risk worth taking, still have bench press and squat rack etc at home, so will work out at home until this is over
just trying to look after myself. |

"Sadly decided last night was last time. Gotta start taking measures now to stop this thing. They will all close soon anyway "
Why stop?
If your gyms open then go.
270,000 cases (not deaths) in around 4 months out of a population of 7.7 billion.
Got more chance of winning the lottery than getting this virus.
If i said to anyone to take a guess of how many cases of flu there is worldwide in a space of 4 months.
9 people out of 10 would give a number far higher and into 7 figures and they would be correct.

That's 1 in every 28,518 people (so far), winning the lottery is a bit more than that...
Also, the UK is only testing people who end up needing hospitalisation now along with other countries. |

And that figure for flu that you are using... is that doubling every 2-3 days?
Is there a reason you are choosing to deliberately ignore the exponential growth rate?

Using a calculator 270,000 people out of 7.7 billion is 0.000002
So i refuse to panic like the media wants me too and will try live as normal as possible.
If my gym remains open which it so far it is then i will continue to go.
I will still take my dog for walks to the park.
I am not scared or worried about catching this virus.

Its not doubling though is it.
Was it 125,000 yesterday?
Was it 62,000 the day before yesterday? No it wasnt.
Its been bettern 200,000 and 270,000 for the past week.
Yes the number is increasing but the same would apply to flu numbers increase every day.
Lets not forget that out of those 270,000 people that are included in that number from weeks/months ago have recovered and no longer have it.

Your ignorance will kill other people.
There are currently 3,269 reported case in the UK today. That number is doubling every 2-3 days. At that rate, it means even with just 1% fatality rate we will surpass that 270,00 number in between 26 and 39 days from now.

You need a new calculator because as a percentage it's 0.0035%
Anyway, we are still very very early days, the way things are growing it will be a much greater number in a few months.

No, flu does not grow at this same rate.
1) Flu spreads much slower
2) We already have a high resistance to flu (annual vaccines)
3) Flu's fatality rate is lower.
Yes, some will have recovered. Some will also have died.
But enjoy your gym session.

It’s shocking how irresponsible and reckless some people are. How can people still be in denial over this - it can’t be lack of education as they have the internet.
Gyms have to be one of the most contaminated places. The Gov should shut them if they had any sense. |

Most of the ones that are taking any responsibility have shut down, or seriously changed their operation (e.g. moved to take-away / delivery only).
You have the choice to not go to the gym and instead go for a run outside, or a cycle ride. Or do pull-ups at home.
But you don't.
Because you are choosing to ignore both the maths and the pleas of those on the front line dealing with this.
Because your gym session is more important than other people's lives.

Sure. We can come back to it in 3 days time. It has double over and over every 3 days so far. Not sure what you think will have changed in the next 3 days given people like you are still going to the gym.
You don't have the virus? And don't intend to get it? Oh... well that's OK then. Why didn't you come up with this genius plan before? Hey folks... Liverpool Lover here has solved it! All we need to do is tell that nasty virus that we intend to get it... sorted!
You could be asymptotic for 5 days. So you could have got it from a gym buddy and not even know it. And then you go out to do something that *is* essential like get food and pass it on to someone else. Maybe someone like me who is asthmatic? Or someone elderly. Or the delivery person who's next stop is my son's house... he has health problems and requires brain surgery every few years. Statistically he may need more this year. Let's hope the hospitals are not full of you and your guy buddies, eh?

270,000 cases (not deaths) in around 4 months out of a population of 7.7 billion.
Got more chance of winning the lottery than getting this virus.
If i said to anyone to take a guess of how many cases of flu there is worldwide in a space of 4 months.
9 people out of 10 would give a number far higher and into 7 figures and they would be correct.
And that figure for flu that you are using... is that doubling every 2-3 days?
Is there a reason you are choosing to deliberately ignore the exponential growth rate?
-Matt
Its not doubling though is it.
Was it 125,000 yesterday?
Was it 62,000 the day before yesterday? No it wasnt.
Its been bettern 200,000 and 270,000 for the past week.
Yes the number is increasing but the same would apply to flu numbers increase every day.
Lets not forget that out of those 270,000 people that are included in that number from weeks/months ago have recovered and no longer have it.
No, flu does not grow at this same rate.
1) Flu spreads much slower
2) We already have a high resistance to flu (annual vaccines)
3) Flu's fatality rate is lower.
Yes, some will have recovered. Some will also have died.
But enjoy your gym session.
-Matt
If you have a problem with me going the gym then maybe call up JD gyms and conplain.
No where here is shut yet.
Coffee places, restauraunts etc they are all still open.
While they are open ill use them
Most of the ones that are taking any responsibility have shut down, or seriously changed their operation (e.g. moved to take-away / delivery only).
You have the choice to not go to the gym and instead go for a run outside, or a cycle ride. Or do pull-ups at home.
But you don't.
Because you are choosing to ignore both the maths and the pleas of those on the front line dealing with this.
Because your gym session is more important than other people's lives.
-Matt"
Well my gym is being responsible. Hand santitsers all around the gym.
Every other bench has been closed off to comply with social distancing.
So they are being responsible.
By the way i dont go to coffe places or restauraunts.
Only time i come into contact with people is when i visit friends or family and go the gym.
With all this going on ive not seen friends or family in person.
So its just the gym where i am around people.
I use the hand sanatisers, before i pick up any dumbells or use a new maxhine.
I feel safe and secure and not in any danger and like i said if i ever get any symptoms ill then isolate.
If you really think people will be able to self isolate/social distancing for an entire year like what they are saying think again.
Theres no way thats possible.
Your going to be in contact with someone at some point. |

That's 1 in every 28,518 people (so far), winning the lottery is a bit more than that...
Also, the UK is only testing people who end up needing hospitalisation now along with other countries.
Your ignorance will kill other people.
There are currently 3,269 reported case in the UK today. That number is doubling every 2-3 days. At that rate, it means even with just 1% fatality rate we will surpass that 270,00 number in between 26 and 39 days from now.
-Matt
Dont blame me, blame the powers that be that arnt closing down gyms.
If the gyms open ill go.
And its still just as busy as it usual is so others must be thinking the same way.
You said it yourself 3,200 cases out of 70,million.
And i bet you it will be weeks or another month before that number is 6000.
Seriously?
Is your defence really "The government have told me not to do this, but because they haven't forced me not to, I'm going to continue to do it, despite all the front line medical staff begging me not to do so because my biceps are more important than someone else's life"?
And no. It will be 3 days before that number is 6,000. And it will keep rising.
Because of people like you.
-Matt
3 shall see what the number is in 3 days time then.
And no people wont get effected because of people like me.
Because i dont have the virus and have no intention of getting it.
And if i do then ill shut myself in the house and isolate.
-Matt"
I find it kinda funny you are having a go at me going the gym when all i see is status's looking for gangbangs and meets on here and in the lounge certain threads where people saying they are still meeting.
Why havnt you jumped on those threads and told those people your thoughts? |

No, not everyone can isolate. Yes, people are going to come in contact with other people. Life has to go on. But people need to take measured risks. And that requires them not ignoring the reality of the situation like you are.
But if every who *can* modify their behaviour so as to reduce the spread *does* then we have a chance of slowing the spread down to give our health service a fighting chance to cope with the demand.
But hey, you could always get your exercise lifting body bags instead.

Oh, so your argument is now "You haven't had a go at them, so what I'm doing is fine, despite the government and all the front line health staff urging me not to do it?"
Yes, those people putting meets up now are irresponsible. Yes, they are idiots for doing so. And I hope other people are also telling them that. I have told some already, yes.

"Problem solved gym told to close "
Good.
When people say "Why do we need government to tell people what to do?" this is a good example. As we have to cater to the lower common denominator.

I just checked and current number of confirmed cases is now at 6,650.

Well it is now 3 weeks since you said that, and the number of cases reported is now 10x that number at over 60,000.
And the number of deaths has now also passed that point, at almost 7,000
Good job they forcibly prevented you from continuing to go to the gym, isn't it?
