Has anyone had the CoronaVirus
Jump to: Newest in thread
Without trying to be morbid, it might be helpful to others to share positive outcomes, especially those elderly who don't have underlying health issues but may be petrified of catching it.
Yes most are afraid
Yes it's serious
Yes it can be fatal
BUT
The vast majority of us will hopefully still be around for many years to come. |

I've not had it.
I'm binge listening to LSHTM Viral and This Week in Virology. While this is undoubtedly serious, the picture I see emerging is one where, for the vast majority of us, this won't be a serious illness. |

5 friends appear to have had it and a couple diarised their experiences on FB. General comments were:
Day 1 light cough, day 2 aching and shivering (like a shitting dog was one comment).
That evening; chest constricted and just want to sleep. One comment was; "ok I can see how this might be bad if you had underlying health problems". Day 3 exhausted and a bit achey but fine again. |

That's unfortunate but really positive, thanks for sharing. |

"Dont take my word for it, seek medical advice but it's been said to drink as much water as you possibly can, keep warm, do NOT TAKE IBUPROFEN"
BUT If you're already on it, DONT STOP TALKING IBUPROFEN until you speak to your doctor is just on the news now. There's a lot of false news |

I think paracetamol is generally safer for most people in most circumstances. But don't get health advice from social media... including me. |

I don't mean you. As far as I can tell, this is being spread via social media and necessarily addressed in the general news.
Anything health related, I see in the media then check in more reliable sources. I personally would use ibuprofen to deal with this. Your mileage may vary. |

Sad thing is you don't really know if you've had it (or not) unless you have been admitted to hospital and have been tested or you've been tested by a private medical company.
I think the NHS are doing their absolute best (and need our support) but the government needs to up their game and do more to get the tools the NHS need to do their job. |

I think up to now they are doing an amazing job in the circumstances with promises of more help to come. We need to get behind them in what is an unprecedented time |

You do not know if you have Covid 19 unless tested for it. You can't get tested until at least 7 days have passed and likely not even then unless hospital admission required.
If you read the symptoms in comparison to flu and cold virus, quite different.... Unless your friends where tested and confirmed diagnosis not so wise listening to them! |

It was actually on the news from an "expert" yesterday
Experience is gained and advice changes and today is another day
Nobody should really take any medicine without proper advice

Beast got it.
Pretty sure the kids brought it in, they have coughs but can't be sure since kids show little to no symptoms.
Beast is in bed with every symptom. It's really kicked his butt. We are on day 4 of isolation now with 4 kids at home too.
Somehow it hasn't hit me so luckily there's one adult still standing. |

I don't think it is helpful to tell people they have not had it when the symptoms are the same as being described. We don't have testing of all people so we should just assume it is and self isolate |

I'm on day 3 and that exactly how I would describe it, except i had a heavy cough that kept causing me to gag/vomit and I'm exceptionally achey/ lethargic, tired. I think it's the shaking that takes it out of you, currently sat here burning up. |

I haven’t been tested as they aren’t testing anyone who isn’t hospitalised . I’ve been told it sounds I’ve had a mild form I’ve been self isolating since Sunday but things went south maybe the Wednesday but wasn’t really sure what it was . Started with asthma and before a lot of advice had come out . I have an online doctors appts tonight for some results on other stuff so will talk to her more .
Symptoms I had :
Dry cough ( not phlegm like)
Annoying got tickle throat and croaky voice
Intermittent fever which is gone now
Asthma wasn’t good at all ( lasted 2-3 days) luckily I was on steroids from the Friday anyway .
Regrettably no one will know for sure anymore but just be vigilant and take precaution |

My daughter had full blown symptoms. I am currently in isolation now and apart from strange headaches and the very occasional cough I feel ok.
Just reading Italian research show for every person with symptoms there are 10 asymptomatic.

The stuff I've been looking at suggests that, given the mild nature of it, most won't report or be counted among the numbers. Which is encouraging. |

Would be great to be able to test for those who have had it . So we can then work and look after those who are going through it |

This is right, I have been contacted by my doctor this morning as I take ibuprofen on prescription for knee and shoulder injuries. She told me to halve my dose and to stop if I had any coronavirus symptoms. They don't know if there is an issue but they're recommending paracetamol for pain relief not ibuprofen or other anti inflammatories |

We think I (Mr) may have had it in January. We thought it was pneumonia at the time but the symptoms all match up to what the virus is. Didn't even hear about the damn thing until a few weeks back but apparently it's been around for months |

As one person earlier mentioned about his friend having we both suspect we have had it.
First symptom was a soft dry thickly cough, this lasted right through and about 6 days after temp had gone.
Second symptom was feeling very lethargic and a fever one minute roasting the next freezing had the AC turned upto 30C and still felt cold..
Had pains between the shoulders and chest, temp lasted for approx 24 hours pain to back and chest 2 to 3 days.
Slowly energy levels returned and by day 5 was feeling relatively good but still a mild thickly cough.
J is classed as hi risk as underlying heart conditions but seems to have no long term effects from it. Whether this was mild or not we cant say having not witnessed others suffering from it. Also we were not tested and told we 100% had it just followed advice.. |

Fella here - I have seasonal asthma which is due around now with the tree pollen, so I wouldn't have a clue. I have a tight throat but nothing more, so I'm carrying on as normal. Was loads worse than this, this time last year. |

Ditto same every year.
Check out the CDC website there's in-depth information regarding this very subject.
The similarities between the two are almost the same with one important difference.
Temperature the coronavirus will have a high temperature/ fever hayfever doesn't.
I'm croaky and a bit clear throaty at the moment it's exactly the same as every year. |

It appear that some of my Facebook friends are self isolating.
It also appears that they are all well know malingering wankers that are usually off work 6 months out of 12.
Wonder how they are going to explain this when they do finally get it? |

It wasn't much of it in England at the beginning of the year but I really feel that I had it towards the middle of February I thought I had a really bad cold that was heavy on my chest and the way I have never experienced before.
I do agree it would be really good to get tested because then I could help my community actively when people are self isolating as I may have immunity built up. |

Same here, we have friends who don't drive and can't physically get their shopping for their families, the delivery services that supermarkets provide are so busy at the moment too. If I can get tested and somehow see if I've had it then I definitely want to get out there to do some good. |

I work in a major acute hospital. We have not had ANY cases of it. The advice and flow charts that tell us who to suspect basically include everyone who is ill. The way we work has not changed much. The infection precautions we take are much the same as if we were treating MRSA or norovirus.
Every one thinks the have it because they met someone else who thinks they have it. In reality they all have normal illnesses. |

You can take ibuprofen.
I have symptoms of the virus and can't take paracetamol to help with my temperature, so I asked for some professional medical advice and they said I can take ibuprofen |

There are several things going around at the moment. Symptoms include lethargy, sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. My son had these symptoms.
But he didn’t have a persistent cough, no fever or high temperature. So I'm confident he’s not had it. He just slept for 3 days as he didn’t feel well.
But for those who are going through it I send furry hugs.
I have a couple of friends who have described exactly the same as others - fever spiked for a couple of days, felt rough as crap but by day 5 were feeling ALOT better. Thankfully one has bad asthma but was able to ride it out with his usual medication and extra advice from the doctor.
He said, drink plenty and take paracetamol for the high temp. Stay still as much as you can and ride it out.
They both did just that and are feeling almost back to normal. Although I will need to drop some supplies off later on their doorsteps for them. |
