Of course, nowadays many people are able to work from home ... but not everyone

My university has cancelled all face to face contact and exams, fieldwork etc for he rest of the year.
I definitely think schools should be closing too. |

this, and that’s what people are not getting, it’s the old and those with underlying health problems that are at the greatest risk, i had it back in january, and i only realised today after taking to a healthcare worker about the symptoms that i did have it, lasted about 4 or 5 days then was fully recovered after a couple more, i would like the media to start reporting on the people who have had the virus and come out the other end, there’s 10s of thousands of them  |

The common fact is that children don't generally succumb to the Virus, but unwittingly can be carriers. Also, schools have large numbers of adults working there. |

They were talking about this last week but decided not to go ahead with it at the moment although schools have had to prepare learning packs in case the advice changes |

Exactly so he’s chosen to keep the schools open where the less vulnerable are and told the more vulnerable to self isolate. Thus allowing parents to carry on working where possible. Makes perfect sense to me. |

This. This. And more this. Closing schools will take more workers out of the economy as they stay home for childcare. That being said, I have every sympathy for schools managing safely, with staff numbers unknown on any given day. |

If they have to look after their own family because they’re ill then they will. They can’t go to work anyway of its because family are showing symptoms. I think the reason schools will close in the end is lack of staff probably. |

I don't see why they should, apart from the poor teachers as they are around loads of kids.... So it's quite high risk... But that's there job anyway I guess.

The messaging up here has been about not causing essential front line NHS/Social Care staff to have childcare issues. Half my wee one's school wasn't in today though and I imagine numbers will be even fewer tomorrow now. I think they'll be shut by this week or next for sure. |

Im a Teacher in a special needs school, the general feeling with staff is the school will close on Friday until after the Easter holidays or longer.
But there is a great uncertainty about this so news will come in on a daily basis we guess.
Already parents are keeping their children away from the school and attendancies are down xx |

Students across the country are doing mock exams this week. If Schools close this may put at risk their actual GCSE's in 6 weeks time. If they are not able to do them the results of the mocks could be vital as the Govt may use them instead. This will have a massive effect on the courses and apprenticships and college places which are based upon results being offered to them.  |

Mine goes to a special school. I imagine they’ll be the first to close. They can’t lose staff as a lot have one to one care so it can’t happen. |

Had two more text messages this evening from the school.
So far they’ve sent home work books, given them all passwords and logins so they can do work on their iPads. Told parents to get any resources they need from the school. Given the curriculum guidance to follow online and have offered to be available on FaceTime for the children who don’t have fluent welsh speaking parents. Some parents don’t speak welsh even though it’s a welsh school. |

Children may not be affected as much, but they are the most unhygienic things on the planet so will inevitably spread things to school staff. This will.put even more stress on teachers. They are educators not babysitters |

Argumeant for students who get free school meals to have that money given to parents in form of vouchers to pay for food for children
Seems confusing- being told to stay away - avoid social contact- is not a ban
So if staying away is important- why is it ok for 100 plus teaching staff and 50 support staff in large secondary schools with 1000 pupils |

Not yet. I feel kids are at less risk going into school. Mine will not stay in if they are off, is rather they were at school.
We had an email saying that obviously they will take the dep of ed advice but if it gets bad locally they will close. They included a link for homework, revision etc so it's a case of when now.
I think they'll try and keep open until they are due to break up anyway, then extend the Easter hols by God knows how long. |

UK along Sweden is I believe the only European country who still hasn't.. with more school staff isolating over next few days and parents not sending kids for same reason due to new measures I am sure it is inevitable anyway. |

They were making the point on the news that the kid'll get it off the teachers and then spread it.
No one even suggested testing the teachers. Seems this austerity obsessed government is so tight it won't test anyone! Just stay in for 2 weeks if you get a cough. |

My daughters drama said yesterday there’s no workshops till further notice. No kickboxing for us either.
Swimming still going cod the chlorine levels in the pool but there wasn’t many kids in Sunday when I worked in my casual job. (Gym& leisure centre) |

Our school is staying open until told to close by government. Some teachers and pupils are staying at home due to underlying health issues, office staff at home. However, it’s business as usual and a bit of normality for the kids with all the madness going on around them.
Easter holidays approaching and won’t be much for them to do as everything starting to close. So let them have this for now |

They shouldn’t expect you to send him in as people with underlying health conditions such as asthma have been told to self isolate. Our school have said they totally understand if parents choose not to send their children but for now they’re remaining open. |

They still expect me to send him in even though hes asthmatic surely they would understand the reason to why I'm keeping him off until this blows over  they said it would be an unmarked absence and i would have the education fine me for keeping him off because hes in the risk category for potentially getting the coronavirus |

Will parents genuinely isolate their children if schools close or are they going to be mixing anyway? Some parents don’t even seem to like their children after the first hour.
I think schools will close in time for an extended Easter break - always supposing that they can be staffed that long.
I would like a clean and clear break for a while but then I worry about the children. Can’t win. |

People are vulnerable what ever age they are! So yes a child with low immunity could be at very high risk. Also teachers and all staff at the school so I do feel a lock down with be in action at some point!
Question is how long for? This length of time will have a huge impact on people! Especially the parents of young families! |

These are all issues that we've been discussing at our school. It is possible that we could still provide some provision for a small number of students. We are also looking at the possibility of supermarket vouchers for kids on free school meals. |

These are all issues that we've been discussing at our school. It is possible that we could still provide some provision for a small number of students. We are also looking at the possibility of supermarket vouchers for kids on free school meals."
I’m sure some provision would be welcomed.
I like the voucher idea. I know some local authorities are looking at options. |

I think schools will close in time for an extended Easter break - always supposing that they can be staffed that long.
I would like a clean and clear break for a while but then I worry about the children. Can’t win.
These are all issues that we've been discussing at our school. It is possible that we could still provide some provision for a small number of students. We are also looking at the possibility of supermarket vouchers for kids on free school meals."

Actually we and many other schools do, do things in the holidays. We are involved with organising out of school clubs and events throughout most of the holidays. |

Do you feel the same way about NHS and other Emergency staff . There are lots of other key professionals that have to carry on.
Those with kids at School will have to take time off to look after the kids if the Schools close. It is hard enough as it it during the School holidays. Appreciate Teachers are not baby sitters, but everyone has to do their bit in times like these. |

Theres several kids in my lads year that are asthmatic and only one parent isn't sending her boy as he gets really bad with his chest, I've witnessed it myself but because my lad isn't as bad they still want me to send him |

I am ‘flu jabbber’, have asthma admittedly mild but I do breath heavier and occasionally cough
This time of year I often get a sore throat and a cough.
So got a tight chest which could be normal cold or flu which takes 7 days if not longer to go for me. So I have to stay at home 12 weeks and self isolate.
Ok great - who is going to help with my mental illness which I have had before and have had medical and counciling for. I had to go out and walk around the block today I was going crazy staying at home!!!!!
The government are trying to be safe than sorry

I am trying to make sense of all the information out there.
I do find it interesting that only 17% of the people on the Diamond Princess cruise ship tested positive and they had a less than ·5% fatality rate.
Around half the people that tested positive never showed any symptoms which shows that we may have no idea how many people actually have it and so will know that they have had it unless they are tested. That to me could mean a good proportion of the population could develop immunity and be able to help others in more difficult times, but would never know as tests are not readily available.

Just had the message that the schools are closing from Friday. My daughter hasn’t gone today cos she was crying saying she was scared! What can you do, she’s 10 and has been in the car with me when the news has been on and watched the news at home. I’ve told her her age group is the safest.
How do we reassure our kids whilst still making them understand it’s serious. |

Shropshire are closing Schools regardless.
I am in Early Years and a lot of children are self isolating with parents so low numbers could force our closure early |

I work in a private school.. We've had our children whos parents are key workers identified. There's a meeting taking place tomorrow to see how we put this into practice.. I'm not taking it as a school closure. |

My little ones school officially closes Friday but has asked that the children be kept at home until further notice. Apparently there’s talk of shortening the summer holidays, to factor in the proposed (so far) two weeks off, then Easter holidays. Also talk of cancelling the May break, so suspect that it’s going to be a lot longer than being made out by the school. They’re sending work via the internet for the children to do.
My sister works in a private day nursery so it’s a day by day thing at the mo. If they have to close then they won’t be receiving wages, will be statutory sick pay rates apparently, so she’ll have her own child at home, and no money to cover the bills.
My oldest hasn’t had any care in the community (she’s severely autistic) for the past three months, bar one night respite a week. Today I had to pick her up early and might not have any more for a while. The MDT to look at her care was cancelled yesterday, so until this is sorted no new care providers will be found. This just heightens the need for social care provision to be better managed. When care is pulled because of staffing levels, it’s detrimental, and now the virus has exacerbated things. She’s massively stressed as it is.
So cabin fever has definitely hit this household, and isolation nothing new, haha, but hey, what’s a bit longer between family I may be bald by September though
