Just had a reading and it was on the high side 156/80 HR 61 very confusing and concerned given that I don't really feel unwell and exercise regularly. Any info on how I could lower it. Many thanks in advance |

It's often termed the silent killer, as many people with high blood pressure won't view any symptoms.
Learn and take action to help yourself, as you are admirably doing
If you are overweight, losing some takes a lot of pressure off of your body, including your heart.
If it's at a medical emergency level, then Doctors have tools that are available to deal with a crisis. Medication will ordinarily take a couple of weeks or more to show results but may be helpful, in case your approach doesn't achieve what's necessary. The meds have a huge track record behind them, so I'd let your GP know and put yourself in their care.
Remove salt from everything. Reduce stress. Exercise is healthy. |

Ive dropped mine from 145/95 in June to 125/75 average recorded twice in morning and twice in evening over 7 days Dr taken me off Amlodipine 2 weeks before the 125/75 reading
Losing 15kg in 7months has helped though |

A female friend whom I’m close to has had a few scares since having covid (in the December before it kicked off in the January) and then the jabs. She’s 71 and her friends other 60’s + are mainly nhs staff or retired and all say now they know from experience of the jabs that they wouldn’t of had them given the choice but did so to stay in the nhs. |

I’ve reduced mine mainly through diet. Cut out the takeaways and processed food as much as possible (I still have one takeaway a week rather than 4 or 5). When I say processed food I’ve literally started cooking all meals from scratch. No shop bought sauces, pre prepared meat. Just raw ingredients and spices. I’ve also upped my fibre intake too to around 30g a day.
Recently I’ve started doing 30mins intense cardio a day too. Net result nearly a stone lost in 3 months.
Bp went from 145/97 avg to 110/84 avg. bottom one still needs to come down a bit but the trend is going in the right direction |

Sit in an upright hard backed chair, put your hand on your knees. Pull yourself up tall, this is called the horse rider position. This lenghtens your diaphragm and reduces your breathing.
Do this for as long as possible minimum of 10 minutes. Your blood pressure lower.
Try to only Breathe gently through your nose. |

I'm borderline needing meds. Was told lose weight, exercise, no salt in my diet to avoid taking tablets. So we will see. |

changes by the hour , by the day ,by the month..
don,t focus on 1 reading , as long as on average its normal.
on saying thsat i'm not a doctor , just how i look at mine.
bet ive only had mine done 10 times in my life . |

Go to pharmacy or GP.
Please, please don’t take advice from social media.
Everyone means well but each individual is different.
When concerned you can look around for the solution that suits you best, generally they won't be the right solution for you.
With BP issues, go to GP.

I had no idea mine was high, I was stressed and only found out when I had a check done at the GP as part of a routine health check and the reading was 223/130 but had no indication that it was high and I felt fine, but now on tablets and probably on for life. I do exercise and watch diet and lost weight and still feel the same only the BP is now at a better 115/77 average. So I would say if in doubt get it checked out as my GP told me I was a ticking time bomb!! |

I had a GP healthcheck in July. I figured as I am in mid-40's now, I needed a general checkup.
Most things were fine, but BP was high. After that, I joined gym.
It has improved slightly, diet and drink adjusted slightly but I know I can do better still.
A sauna session after gym workout for me has been really good for BP, average reading after has been around 120/80.

Your HR is absolutely fine. Your diastolic pressure is text book, systolic a bit high.
See your doctor though as this isn’t the place for advice… |

had high blood pressure for years as a proffesional driver it was and is very worrying as my licence is now checked including medical every 5 years, stress is a big part of high blood pressure, i try and deal with it the best i can, more than happy to pass on advice and help if need be, stay safe people, and keep well |

Thanks for all your replies and advice. I've got a home blood pressure monitor and I've used it for a few days and the readings vary but are mostly lower than the one I had at the chemist last week
I've also been told about a condition called white coat hypertension when your in a medical setting and worried about your blood pressure it goes up. |

I was blue lighted to hospital with a 234/101 reading 2 months ago, had no idea. On meds now but keep an eye on it. Went to a club and almost keeled over after the hot tub... got to be careful with those it seems!!! |

Was put on medication and followed it for a bit then came off it a BIG mistake
Went for a check before last holiday too the chemist, was sent straight to doctor as reading was really bad

FWIW
My GP measured nine and it was 141/90
He told me to record two readings in the morning and two in the evening for 7 days and they were fine.
While doing this I found out it's important to empty your bladder before taking a reading or it will be significantly higher.
If in doubt the gp will for you with an automatic BP monitor which will record the readings over a week. |

On a therapeutic note, I’ve been reading a few papers on the reduction of red blood cell clumping after electrically grounding.
Without grounding our blood cells clump and cause congestion. The blood gets more viscous and difficult to move. |

I took was surprised by this I thought it was known to be an out dated theory about salt..
The body needs it as much if not more thqn, most other minerals.
I have half a litre of water and two salt tablets every morning when I wake and give it half an hour before eating or having coffee etc have done this for nearly two decades now....
Most dehydration is caused by lack of salt retaining water in the body, and most people are actually dehydrated but don't realise it.
I'm not talking about lashing it all over your fish and chips at night Btw
Exercise, not eating too much processed food and plenty of fluids is the first place to start before you hit any medication.
Anyone on Instagram there is a guy called DrJamesdinic who specialises in this sort of stuff who is a good follow and well respected in his field. |

We recently did a health check at work and apparently I have the heart and blood pressure of an Olympic athlete, who knew ha ha.
But I don’t smoke or drink. I have always eaten a reasonably healthy diet (not on a diet) just eat a balanced diet, mostly fresh veg and whole meat not processed like burgers etc, I get a reasonable amount of exercise in a day ( I cover about 10km a day just at work) cut the lawn with a push along mower, walk the dog etc. apparently sex is very good exercise so I better keep that up in the long dark evenings that are coming . But stress is one of the worst things you can allow into your life and I have been good at eliminating stress. For example apparently my job is stressful but a simple way of looking at life is if a problem arises ask yourself 1, can I solve the problem. If the answer is yes then great no problem. If it is no, well can someone else solve the problem, if they can then arrange them to solve the problem, the. No more problem. If you anyone else or a team of people can not solve the problem then there is nothing you can do so move on to something you can solve. |

Mr here. I've been through this in the past year.
High & Low BP can be a silent killer.
Get to your GP and have yourself checked out!
I had a BP monitor on for 24 hrs. Results found i suffer mostly during the night.
Now i take a tablet every morning and feel much better in general.

You need a doctor, now. I got mine down to normal over a couple of years but I am on medication for it. I lost 2 stone and started eating and exercising properly. I had life expectancy of 50s, I am ten years past that and healthier. |

We're better being cared for a medic who knows us and has responsibilities for our health, rather than docs etc on social media. The NHS can offer emergency blood pressure treatment, when required, though the OP is likely fine for monitoring and discussion with his GP. |

i went totally blind in one eye due to hypertension. I have been taken tablets 40 years. I had lots of problems during two pregnancies(i had two c sections),if my blood pressure was high i had to stay in hospital.the strangest thing was after i got knocked down last year, and spent a few days in hospital i had hypotension. However its now been keep steady thanks to tablets. |

Hello, I work in pharmacy. Most pharmacies will offer free blood pressure checks. You can also do your own at home. Be better to get a 7 days reading and take into your GP. They can look at it and determine what the results are.
Some pharmacies also do a 24hr blood pressure monitoring device where it can take several readings over a 24hr period.
If you feel unwell or not yourself please seek help via a pharmacy or doctors. As stated above blood pressure can kill and often doesn't have symptoms.

James despite being fit and well, training 3 or 4 times a week, eating very healthily but too much booze (4 nights a week on average) was posting very high for a good while - 160/88 average. Cut back alcohol did very little. Cut back caffeine to max 3 coffees a day has worked perfectly and is back down to normal levels after around 3 weeks. |

If you're not at the point where medication is advised, then-
Have raw cacao powder in the kitchen.
-Make a hot drink with it everyday.
Take l-arginine as a supplement also.
Eat lots of Bananas.
See how you go - you should see a reduced blood pressure level. |

Use of sauna dilates blood vessels and therefore reduces blood pressure but only temporarily. Readings taken after using a sauna are not a true reflection of your blood pressure and actually skew the average readings.
No salt, correct diet and exercise are the answer.

See GP or Practice Nurse if concerned.
In the meantime drink adequately (no longer a 2 litre rule, it ranges from 1.5 litres to 2.5 litres dependant on your size).
Eat healthily.
If job is sedentary, ensure you're active in other ways.
Mindfulness/meditation (stress = rising cortisol and long term this is very dangerous).
Sleep hygiene (stop looking at your phone at least an hour before bed).
If your diastolic (second number) was above 90, I would be concerned.
Like others have said, one reading is insufficient. If you get a BP monitor, take random readings (you should get a guide on sitting still for at least five minutes, x amount of time before/after drinking and so on) readings for a week (you'll probably have to wait for an appointment anyway).

Mine was alot higher at one point and I felt normal the doctor couldn't believe how high it was she took it 3 times to make sure and she said couldnt understand how I hadn't ended up in hospital or worse it was that High |

Thanks for everyone who has commented on this post. Today I went to the doctor's and had another check it was 139/77 hr59. The lady who took the reading did it the old fashioned way apparently with one of those contraptions that they pump up with and listen to rather than a machine

Many thanks in advance " I developed very high blood pressure when I went for a pre-op assessment about 10 years ago. I’m on 7 different tablets every day. Go and see your doc and get them to help you. Good luck!

I kept feel unwell while truck driving so went to see doctor , blood pressure 220/ 128
Was put in sick till blood pressure tablets started working , he was going to inform DVLA and get my licence revoked |

Healthy diet must play a big part
We’ve never eaten at McDonalds, KFC etc.
Other than restaurants we’ve always cooked from scratch, lots of veg, fish, nuts, pulses….and avoided processed desserts like biscuits cakes…
We’re both mid 60’s and a bit overweight but always had normal BP |

Yes, me too - but then stress of work, battling customer deadlines & not sleeping sent my BP much, much higher than the OPs. 111 were fantastic, as were Emergency Care at hospital - had a pretty full MOT (ECG, blood/urine tests, etc.). All in control now, almost low BP - with better work/life balance.
OP’s BP doesn’t look too scary (in comparison) but all the more reason to get it properly checked out now and use this chance to review lifestyle, etc. if required. |

I have had some very odd readings of late, so much so that the nurse had to get another machine to double check, despite everything else being A OK. For some strange reason, two medical professionals can't make out why my blood pressure readings are so different, 5 times it's was measured in the space of about 15 minutes, from extremely low to on the verge of a stroke. That with a resting pulse rate below 60. All blood work was fine. They asked if I used energy drinks, or food I was eating or even if I had ran to the appointment.

Yup it's a thing I suffer massively from it.
I always have to do three readings about 20mins apart usually by the time it gets to the third one the reading drops.
Learn to relax your breathing through mindfulness techniques it helps. |
