AIDS is a syndrome created by an untreated retrovirus infection called HIV. I would being your education around it by looking at HIV and the NHS stats on its transmission.
Or just slip a nodder on every cock.

Or take PrEP.
It's not the problem that it once was.
It may be a shock to find out that you've contracted it and obviously best to not do if you can but it is well managed now with medication.
It's very easy to spread fear with posts like this and not give good and factual information.
Get tested regularly and ask questions to the health professionals at your clinic. |

Agreed. PrEP protects you from HIV but you are still at risk of contracting other nasty STIs.
Lots of talk on PrEP but not on PEP. If you have barebacked and you think you have been exposed to HIV, you can get PEP from your local STI clinic or A&E, which, if taken with 3 days of exposure, can prevent the virus from establishing in your body. Kind of like a morning after pill.
Receptive anal is the riskiest behaviour, so it is generally only prescribed if you’re at risk. Oral sex isn’t risky behaviour. It’s a strong medication so although effective, it is not the answer to reckless behaviour.
Look after your health, take your PrEP and use a rubber! |

That is just not true.
To be prescribed PrEP, you must be tested and see your Dr at clinic at least every three months.
Many people thst you might meet do not get tested so regularly.
I get tested more like every 2 months and know my sexual health status.
PrEP is very close to condom use in safety.
Oral sex can spread many STI's and yet many do not consider it a risk at all.
Even close body contact carries some risk of infections.
To be regularly tested is the best option we have apart from not meeting anyone. |

Do you use condoms or dental dams for all oral then?
Oral sex carries the risk of a good few infections and done quite nasty.
It is indeed risky behaviour when you consider gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Chlamydia to name just a few STI's transmitted this route.
I am not a receptive anal sex partner and am on PrEP.
PrEP has very close to the same protection against hiv transmission as using condoms and by most specialists is considered a better protection.
Of course it will not cover you for other STI's to any degree or for pregnancy rather.
The good thing for PrEP use us that you must be tested a minimum of every 3 months to be prescribed it.
Many do not test that regularly otherwise. |

I think the general consensus here is that bareback is irresponsible, regardless of HIV risk or not. But this is also dependent on your frequency of partners and the communication you have.
Fucking a stranger.. use protection.
FWB, regular partner..do what feels right, whether that be BB or not. I think it’s a personal choice. It’s irresponsible if you’re going to sex parties and banging everyone without a condom (which does happen)
So yes as you said, regular testing is the most responsible thing we can do along with taking PrEP and using condoms. |

No. I was discussing the risks of oral sex in the context of HIV transmission, which is incredibly low.
Yes, many infections can be spread orally. I’m not disputing that. I don’t use dental dams as I assume you don’t, as I have open and honest conversations with my partners before sex. Sometimes it can’t be avoided.
I was talking about PEP. You won’t be prescribed it unless you are deemed to have risky sex. PrEP is more generally prescribed and you are monitored regularly, which is great! I am very much an advocate for it
I think when it comes to bareback it’s always best to use your own judgement |

To say
" fucking a stranger, use protection"
Is also not going to mean so much really.
You've very little idea that anyone who is not a stranger has no STI's or is even totally honest with you about who they've had sexual contact with.
No sex is safe.
Precautions taken and good education on the matter make it safer.

I really do not think it is necessarily irresponsible if you are taking sensible precautions such as regular testing and PrEP etc.
There are also other drugs offering some protection for other infections too if they are wanted.
Condoms will offer protection for other STI's, but as I've said, the risk is very much present for any oral contact and also for bodily contact which is rarely considered at all.
Bareback sex should not be stigmatised like this

I’m not stigmatising bareback sex. Damn, I’ve had bareback sex. And I do with trusted partners.
The point is, a lot of straight cisgender people are not on PrEP (because they don’t know about it) and not using condoms. Which is totally valid, because yes, they are at slightly lower risk. But not necessarily. In 2022 there were higher HIV diagnoses in heterosexual patients.
I say, if you’re too worried about it, take it to ease your mind.
I’m not arguing with you I think it’s an interesting discussion.

No sex is safe, true. But it can be made safer. In that case, if I can’t trust any of my regular sexual partners, I definitely can’t trust a random, right?
I’ve seen individuals here taking loads up the ass bare, anonymously. STIs aren’t fun to have. Yes, they’re treatable but they’re painful and ugly and spread easy. Each to their own |

Exactly.
Many people Do not think they will be the ones to catch anything.
They take risks which is their choice.
They do not always tell the truth to the people they meet and often Do not get tested regularly.
It is each person's choice what they do and sll we can do is to limit the chances as best we can.
I'm happy discussing, not arguing, but as I've often seen on here, so many Do not think of oral as any risk when it is pretty much the same as any penetrative sex.
On the other point, I think that HIV infections are so high in the heterosexual community because they seem to see it as something different to STI'S and they're unlikely to come into contact with it.
Thankfully, it's not the desth sentence that it was years should and is managed now.
It's very like diabetes really these days which is incredible. |

Interesting information on the gov website...
The number of HIV diagnoses in England rose by 22% from 3,118 in 2021 to 3,805 in 2022. Most of this increase is attributable to people previously diagnosed abroad, a 69% increase from 805 in 2021 to 1,361 in 2022. These infections were likely acquired abroad and therefore do not reflect a rise in transmission in England.
Of the people previously diagnosed abroad and having a subsequent diagnosis in England during 2022, 67% (911 of 1,361) arrived in England in 2022. Most were rapidly linked to care shortly after their England arrival. Provisional information shows 91% were linked within one month of diagnosis and 96% within 3 months. Furthermore, 87% were virally suppressed at the time of their England diagnosis, indicative of treatment access abroad, ensuring good health outcomes and preventing onward HIV transmission in England.

Yes PEP is definitely one to avoid. I had to have it once and I was ill for a week including on a long haul flight where I was puking constantly. Horrible.

Side effects from medicine is very variable, even the same person can react differently. I've not had that medication but I'd have taken it, to prevent infection, I think. |

"I've given bareback recently. How much risk am I at contracting hiv??"
The risk for the active partner is generally considered very much lower than a passive partner.
It does of course increase if there is any blood obvious of open cuts etc to be in contact.
It's always best to get tested and speak to your heslthcare professionals in your clinic though snd they can explain and advise you regarding good protection to suit you.
Better to test and know your sexual health status.

Well yes of course if there's a genuine high risk, that's what it's for. It'd only be prescribed for that anyway. Bc of strength, side effects and interactions with other medication it shouldn't be taken lightly (like the morning after pill sometimes is). My risk was great so was a non brainer but I wouldn't have a blasé attitude towards taking it. |

A slightly lower risk is an interesting way of putting it. The rates you quote are from Scotland and are gross numbers. Gay and bi men who have sex with men are a small subset of the sexually active community so you would expect the different percentage numbers for new HIV cases to be much wider apart than 13% if the risk difference was marginal. |

Truth.
There are some very uninformed opinions being posted here.
PrEP is an excellent medication and very relevant to the OP topic here.
No-one is saying it will protect against all STIs but it offers excellent protection/prevention of HIV transmission.
Coupled with the very regulare testing to remain on the medication, it is indeed the best option for protection. |

Transmission of HIV can just as feasibly be from a friend, a partner or a regular meet that you would trust.
If people are not tested regulatory then there is a chance they carry the virus and are not even aware that they do.
I'm sure that most decent people would not be knowingly infecting others. |

"Now we are told it is in the Increase.
So what do we do about it as we where all young at 1 time "
It is likely on the increase beacuse people rely too much on prep and the honesty of others having taken tests.
and also the fact that if you have aids, you arent required to inform a potential sexual partner, which i think is insane. |

"What I thought that was illegal?
Aren’t there cases where people have been prosecuted due to partners contracting aids as a result of their relationship?"
Terrence Higgins:
In England and Wales, you may be found guilty of reckless HIV transmission if all of the below apply:
You had sex with someone who didn’t know you had HIV.
You knew you had HIV at that time.
You understood how HIV is transmitted.
You had sex without a condom.
You transmitted HIV to that person.
In Scotland, the law is more strict. You can also be prosecuted for putting someone at risk without their prior knowledge or consent, even if transmission did not take place.
What is the penalty when someone is found guilty?
In England and Wales, the penalty is a maximum prison sentence of five years for each person someone is found guilty of infecting. There is no minimum sentence. |

Can we all just get out of the 80's mindset please...... You don't catch AIDS, you contract HIV. Left untreated the immune system is gradually depleted (CD4) and once the count is below 200 an individual is susceptible to opportunistic infections which can be fatal with a weak immune system that is unable to fight off various everyday bugs/viruses.
This is/or was when someone is described as having AIDS..... more commonly known nowadays as Advanced HIV.
A person with HIV and on treatment with an undetectable viral load CANNOT pass the virus on regardless of protected or bareback sex. The vast majority of positive cases will be contracted by people not knowing each others status.... This is where PrEP has become a game changer in the prevention of HIV transmission of the virus....of course this only protects against HIV and not other STI's
So, if playing bareback regularly seriously consider contacting your local GUM clinic with a view to getting on PrEP to protect yourself. Every individual is responsible for their own sexual health |

That is your opinion and very misguided at that.
PrEP is as effective as condom use to prevent infection of HIV.
People with HIV can be on medication to maintain and control their status as U which means undetectable so they are not able to pass the HIV on to partners.
They have HIV and NOT Aids.
If you are going to comment then please educate yourself . |

We take daily PrEP, had our HEP vaccination and HPV vaccination ( for him ). And we use condoms. And yes we must be tested every 3 months. Also consider up to 70-80% of the population carry the HSV virus and this can be spread just by skin contact. All others Sti’s can be treated…. Play safe and get tested. It’s free on the NHS.. |

First of all HIV and AIDS are two different things and you can't contract AIDS.
Secondly, HIV is on the rise in the straight and Bi community. This is fact when you look at Scotland and England sexual health sertistics.
Gay people have had to deal with this all their lives and we have researched and studied the facts. Please do the same x |

Personally, I belt & braces. PrEP AND condoms. I get tested every 3 months. Oral infections are definitely a thing, but I can’t see oral sex with condoms & dams catching on, so we all run the risk of chlamydia, gonorrhoea & syphilis from oral. That’s why everyone engaged in this kind of scene really ought to be testing regularly. |

I'd say you are number one priority so never go anywhere near where's there's doubt and especially without protection! |

"Interesting discussion.
I am always amazed by the number of people on here who include in their profile "BB only". It's often doubled up with a huge number of verifications."
well its a very popular and mostly common way of humans having sex .... its still quite low chances catching STIs and people that are generally open bareback players will be testing monthly , ontop of it all to nip in bud any mishaps along the way asap... |

People who choose to fo this are the ones eho I'd suspect are more educated on their sexual health, test regularly and could very likely be taking PrEP to protect themselves.
I'm sure that on sites like this, they're not just ignoring risks. |

"Do you get aids if you pull out before coming
Until this moment I was under the misapprehension that I was the only person fab who spells 'coming' correctly."
