I'm at high risk so possibly. I'd have to weigh up risks Vs benefits and look into how they're making these assertions. Such as the effect on tau tangles and amyloid beta (basically the protein plaques that cause Alzheimer's), or whether it has the potential to reduce vascular or other dementia types.
And if I get a hard on? Bonus |

I'd hazard a guess that men using Viagra are more socially active and thus less likely to develop Alzheimer's as all the people I know who developed it lived alone and didn't socialise but I'm definitely not an expert or anything remotely close, just an observation |

Viagra is a branded version of Sildenafil, this is prescribed to both men and women as a treatment for Pulmonary Arterial hypertension (a type of high blood pressure) |

Did you know that antihistamines neutralise the effect ogained from using Viagra, so anybody who needs to medicate hayfever, dust allergies, colds or just the sensation/side effects that cause the bunged up feeling will have to make a decision on which pill to take |

Viagara is a vasodilator (expands blood vessels) so theoretically increases blood flow.
I’d image it would have to be taken as a regular medication to increase blood flow to brain with potential affect to reduce Alzheimer’s.

It will be interesting to see more in-depth studies, with women too. As it's a currently approved medicine, it won't need the same level of testing that's needed with new drugs, for safety evaluation. Certainly, we desperately need new treatments. |

Women can take sildenafil (viagra) and it does have beneficial effects on their clit and vaginas by increasing blood flow. It is not, however, a magic pill for improving lost libido but once aroused the physical sensations appear to be enhanced. |

Didn't I read recently that continued use of viagra causes health problems?
Viagra works by boosting blood flow to the penis — causing an erection — This is achieved by turning off an enzyme called phosphodiesterase 5. But in the process, the drug also interferes with a related enzyme in retinal cells. At high doses, experts say visgra could permanently damage the retina causing vision problems |

Bit of an odd one really.
Correlation does not prove (or disprove) causation.
It may be that the group of guys taking Viagra included in the study have a healthier sex life than those in the group who were not taking it. So it could be the sex that was effective in reducing the incidence or onset of Alzheimer's. On a slightly depressing note it maybe that the chaps that were taking the drug were having more interaction with others of any sort than the potentially lonely souls that weren't. Social isolation is a known risk factor for onset of dementia.
Something else to look forward to in ones dotage!
Incidentally,
I remember seeing a news article reporting a study that men taking ED drugs were less likely to develop coronary disease, kind of makes sense as I'm sure Viagra was originally researched and discovered as a drug to help dilate coronary blood vessels.
Get out there and enjoy every day as much as you can has been my motto for a while.
Easy to say of course when you are as lucky as I am and have Lulu to love!!! |

Good points.
Interested to see if women get the same benefit
Regarding the coronary artery disease issue, it's ALSO possible that men who don't have heart disease just fuck more and of course use more viagra. On the other hand, men WITH heart disease get chest pains etc and so don't fuck (and therefore just don't buy viagra). But when you look at groups of people, you notice that the ones taking viagra "happen" to have less heart disease! Not cause-effect just association |

Could well be that, on other hand Viagra is a vasodilator and increasing blood flow to the brain might have a protective effect. It did also get me wondering how often these men taking Viagra were doing it as difficult to see how occasional use could have such a protective effect against Alzheimer's. To be fair the researcher interviewed did say the result was quite speculative. |

I'm on 100gms and on an empty stomach I get blue vision, on a full stomach the effect is not so noticeable.
The blueness is similar to swimming under water. |

I have taken Viagra for a laugh I do like how it opens up blood vessels and wasn't it originally prescribed for people with heart problems. I don't need Viagra as I can stay hard for ages and keep going. Me and a former partner took Viagra for fun and she loved it and it lasted for quite afew hours with her every time I touch it I am rock solid for 12hrs plus.
If it has other benefits then sure go for it and see what happens |

Viagra has extended my sexual career and with the right lady to turn me I can ejaculate following oral 69 into a shaven pussy in about 10 minutes. However, beware of the side effects e.g headaches and hot flushes and for those under 40 you shouldn't really be using it. I have got high blood pressure so it's perfect for reducing it. Don't take if you already have got low blood pressure. |

Having a hard on for four hrs can cause serious damage to the penis. Anyone that has an election that won't go down longer than that needs to get medical advice immediately. |

The original trials for Sildenfil where based on female hormones then it became divided during testing when based on male hormones, it increased blood pressure and desired to convert the trials to male only use, as the market would be more lucrative.
Sildenfil is the product type name the inventors named it Viagra still used by them after the patent finished, many other makers started producing Sildenfil.
I'm guessing wether it can work for both
Is the hormone perhaps it needs tweaking |

Viagra actually started life to fight altitude sickness, then in further trials they found it helped the heart. It came to be used for ED because also during the trials in the hospital they noticed alot of the men were getting erections!!! I only know this as I researched it as I'm prescribed it to stop the numbness I have in my hands and feet. |

You say that, but humour really does help men out a lot, look at the jokes in the trenches from WWW1. What ever gets us blokes through this horrible condition and to the pharmacy and docs has to be a good thing.
Wasn't Pele used to advertise Viagra? You know, that soccer player who never struggled with keepy ups?

Neuropathy? I've never heard of Viagra being prescribed for that although ED can be ascribed to that too. How often do you take it? I wouldn't have thought occasional use (as for ED) would be sufficient to treat numbness in the hands and feet. Great if it works for you though |

"Seeing someone with alzheimers is not a laughing matter it fucking hurts! And I find all the jokes here distasteful. Not everything is to be made into a joke. Grow up will you "
I too know people with dementia and Alzheimer's, I personally think it's better to joke about than to allow yourself to get depressed. Ultimately, cracking a joke in the face of adversity can be an act of defiance or bravery, it says that we're not going to be give up the fight.
Obviously we all face life's challanges differently, but making everything thing a joke is a fair coping technique.

Laughing about it is exactly the right thing to do. Having seen my in-law both suffer from dementia there is nothing worse than losing a loved one twice. My wife found comfort in laughter and remembering the good times. |

"Remembering the good times" and taking the piss out of someone suffering from a disease are two different reactions. No one is going to make me believe any different. It's out of order. |

No, the op mentioned "alzheimers" nothing wrong in that, it's those that made tastless jokes included the symptoms of alzheimers which is loss of memory. Seeing someone you love deteriorate in front of your eyes isn't shit ! This is what is wrong with people today. Entitlement, no empathy. Anything that comes to mind whether it's hurtful or not as long as it doesn't affect me then I'll say what the fuck I want. |
